논문개요

현대는 우리가 지각하는 것보다 훨씬 빠르게 진행되고 있다. 이런 급변하는 시대상황에서 사람과 교감했던 사물들이 제 기능을 다하지 못하고 소멸되는 것을 많이 볼 수 있다. 우리들의 관심 밖에 잊혀져가는 사물들이 그 고유기능을 잃고 사라지는 사실에 주목 하면서, 후기산업사회의 언저리를 비껴가는 산업 전유물들에게 인간으로서 공유할 수 있는 동질감을 조형으로 대신하고자 하였다. 망각된 사물들은 기억에서 흩어져 사라지는 것이 아니라, 특별한 의미를 간직한 상태로 우리의 기억 속에 내재되어 있다. 이는 사물 형태의 일부가 시각화 되었을 때 나머지 형태를 연상하게 되고, 그 의미 또한 다시 되새기곤 한다. 여기서 불러일으킨 감정들은 사물에 또 다른 의미를 부여하게 되고 더욱더 확장된다. 연구에 도입된 소재들은 주변에서 흔히 발견되는 사물들로 버려진 각종 부품과 자연물 등을 사용하였다. 표현방법은 사물의 일부가 실루엣으로 전체를 암시하는 방법이며, 생략의 정도에 따라 가려진 부분에서는 잠재된 사유의 공간을 확대시키고, 다른 관점에서 시작된 조형활동으로 새로운 하나의 형체를 재구성하고자 하였다. 사물 개체들의 구성으로 인한 형의 구조적 표현방법은 20세기 전반 혁명의 중심에 서 있던 예술 운동의 하나인 입체주의(Cubism) 표현기법과 유관하다. 기존 미술의 분리운동은 작가들에게 무한한 상상력으로 다가와 추상표현주의를 낳게 되었던 것처럼 현대도예의 또 다른 분리운동으로 기존 오브제 도예의 전형에서 벗어나 새로운 방향을 모색하여 현대주거공간에서 순기능을 제안하는 시도를 병행하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 우리에게 감정과 미의식에 직간접적으로 영향을 미칠 수 있는 실생활 속 실내 오브제를 ‘소(小)예술’이라는 단어로 칭하면서, 관람자들에게 조형이 주는 사물이 전달하는 시대상의 공감과 형태의 연상을 통하여 유희성을 제공하는 것에 목적을 두었다.

‘도자기’가 생활용기의 기능을 넘어 ‘점토’라는 재료적 한계를 극복하는 순수조형의 시도로 작가내면의 정신과 자아를 찾길 희망하였다. |ABSTRACT

A Study of Pottery Formation using Dissolution and Combination - Focused on Taxidermized Objects -

The progress of the modern society is much faster than we realize. In such a rapidly evolving environment, it is not uncommon that we see the objects that were communions of the people ceased to function and disappear. The objects that are forgotten and brushed aside. As I focused on this fact, I intended to provide models of exclusively industrial objects that brush along the edges of the post-industrial society and show a sense of kinship we human kind can share with them. The objects in oblivion are not disintegrated in the abyss of our memories but still stashed deep in the corners of our memories holding special meanings to us. This can be called up on in a flash-back visualization of the objects with meanings over a specific circumstance, which than again result in recollection of th entire object. The meanings of these objects can also be revisited. The emotions evoked in this process then again endow a different meaning, which are broadened further.

The objects used in this study are those that are commonly found around us. For the works covered in this study, I used the abandoned objects or natural objects that I cam across by chance. I used the method of implying the images of the whole through fragments or silhouettes, and, depending on the degree of concealment, the covered portions of the objects further expanded the potent space of thinking. In the mean time, modeling efforts that started from a different point of view ended up making new forms. The structural expression method using the arrangement of the objects was connected to the Cubism, which was one of the artistic movements in the center of the revolutions during the first half of the 20th century. The separatist movements from the existing forms of arts gave the artists limitless imaginations to give birth to the school of abstract expressionism. Likewise, in modern pottery, another movement of separatism was proposed, by refusing the stereotypes of the objet pottery and seeking a new direction, resulting in propositions of positive functions in modern residential environment.

In this study, I referred to the indoor objet that we commonly come across and affect our senses and emotions either directly or indirectly as ‘small art,’ while the main focus of the works was to give pleasure to the audiences through a process of sympathy with the impressions of modern days that are delivered by the models and the resemblance with the forms. The pottery made of clay has limited modes of approaching the people as a vessel, which is the traditional domain. But, it is my hope that the audience who face my works may shed new lights on the ideas and meanings inside them and discover the self within.
