짜임의 구조를 모티브로 한 도자 장식 연구

Abstract

짜임은 조직이나 구성을 뜻하는 단어로 가깝게는 우리가 입고 있는 옷의 직물, 혹은 풀이나 나무를 엮어 만든 것들이 있다. 이것은 일정한 규칙을 갖고 반복함으로써 구조적 내구성과 기능성을 가지며 그중 우리에게는 바구니, 소쿠리 등과 같이 친숙한 느낌을 자아내는 다양한 짜임이 존재하고 있다. 그중 등공예는 짜임의 장식성과 예술성을 보여주는 대표적인 예로써 많은 가구와 실용품 제작에 사용되며 등나무의 재질감과 내구성 또는 기능성을 위한 필연적인 짜임의 형태로 인해 매우 독특한 장식적 미감이 내재되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 등공예의 짜임이 갖는 여러 구조와 형태가 도자 장식의 수단으로서의 가능성을 모색하고자 등공예 기법을 응용한 장식 패턴화 과정 제시와 실제 도자 테이블웨어에 적용하였다. 등공예 짜임은 전체의 형태를 이루는 바닥, 몸통, 끝부분으로 나누어지고 짜임 방식 역시 상이하기에 각 기법에 따른 짜임의 형태와 내용을 정리하고 도식화 과정과 패턴화 과정을 구체적으로 제시하였다. 제작방법에 있어서는 등나무의 재질감을 도자 물성에서도 표현 가능한 방법을 모색하였으며 이 과정 속에 짜임의 조각 표현 방법을 석고 원형 조각이라는 구체적인 방법을 모색하였다. 여기에 더해 최종적인 질감 표현을 위해 유약의 사용방법과 질감 표현을 위한 다양한 실험을 시도하였다. 이와 같은 방법으로 도자 장식에 활용할 수 있는 짜임의 형태를 도출하였으며 질감 표현에 필요한 재료 조합 및 제작방법을 제시하였다. 도자 장식으로의 실제 적용에 있어서는 도자 테이블웨어의 아이템을 대상으로 짜임 형태의 조각 장식과 유약 기법을 적용하여 등공예의 짜임이 도자 장식의 표현 수단으로서의 가능성을 제안하고자 하였다.| “Weave” refers to an interlacing pattern in the structure or composition of an object. Examples of weaves are seen in clothing fabrics, woven grass, or wood products. The recurring pattern of weaving helps maintain structural durability and functionality. There exists a wide array of weaves, including familiar ones in traditional woven items such as baskets. Rattans stand out among the many types of weaves when it comes to decorative and artistic features. They are used extensively to make a variety of furniture and practical items while presenting uniquely inherent decorative and esthetic qualities, which is attributable to their texture and durability and distinctive weaving patterns that are customized to ensure proper functionality. This study aims to explore the use of a variety of structures and patterns of rattan weaving to emphasize ceramic decoration. To accomplish this, rattan techniques were analyzed in depth to present decorative patterning processes and subsequently apply them to genuine ceramic tableware. Rattan weaving has three characteristics: the bottom that forms the entire shape, the body, and the end. Given the different weaving techniques, specific schematization and patterning processes were presented in detail based on each technique. In terms of the method used to make rattan products, this study sought to seamlessly incorporate rattan texture into ceramic properties. Throughout the process, a specific method referred to as “plaster prototype carving” was proposed to embody weave patterns in the form of carving. Furthermore, to add the finishing touches to texture, a series of experiments were performed, including one that focused on the use of glaze. As a result, this study derived weaving patterns that can be used for ceramic decoration and presented a combination of materials that accentuated the texture and methods of manufacturing rattan products. In summary, regarding the practical applications of rattan weaving to ceramic decoration, this study successfully applied the decorative carving of weaving patterns and the elaborate use of glaze to ceramic tableware items and confirmed the possibility of using rattan weaving as an effective means of ceramic decoration.
