전통색채 활용을 위한 지도방안 연구 - 중학생을 중심으로 -

Abstract

현대에 색채는 이미지를 대변하는 수단으로, 제품의 고부가가치를 실현할 수 있는 중요한 요소로 영향을 미치고 있다. 나라마다 자연환경과 문화에 맞는 독특한 색채문화를 가지고 있기 때문에 색은 자국 문화의 독특함을 강하게 표현할 수 있는 효과적인 요소라 할 수 있으며, 21세기에 들어서 세계는 국가 경쟁력 제고와 정체성 확립의 차원에서 나라 고유의 색채와 미의식을 찾고자 하는 노력이 일어나고 있다. 그런데 오늘날 우리가 처해있는 색채문화를 살펴보면 근대화의 빠른 성장 속에서 서양문화를 받아들이면서 서구적 색채문화가 우리 생활 속에 자리 잡게 되며 전통색채에 대한 감수성을 잃어가고 있다. 서구의 색채문화가 주류를 이루고 있는 상황에 한국의 미감이 돋보이는 색채문화를 형성하기 위해서는 우리의 자연환경과 사상, 문화가 담겨있는 전통색채에 대한 올바른 이해가 요구되며, 이것은 학교 미술교육의 체계적인 수업을 통해 발전적인 결과를 가져올 수 있을 것이라 본다. 현재 학교에서 이루어지고 있는 색채교육은 서양의 표준화된 색체계 위주로 이루어지고 있다. 교과서에서 전통색의 부분은 오방색 5가지의 색을 알려주고 그 색이 의미하는 상징을 설명하고 오방색이 활용된 의복이나 생활품의 도판을 감상하는 것으로 그칠 뿐 우리나라 전통색채에 대한 체계적인 내용이 다루어지지 않고 있다. 이것은 우리 전통색채를 단순히 오방색이라는 고정관념 속에 묶여 버리게 하는 요인이라 볼 수 있으며, 우리 전통색의 아름다움을 느끼기에 부족한 제한된 시각 경험만을 제공하는 교육에 문제점이 있음을 교과서 분석과 설문조사 결과를 통해 알 수 있었다. 전통은 그대로 답습하기 보다는 그것을 현대에 맞게 응용할 수 있어야 한다. 지금까지 연구되어진 전통색채 지도방안을 보면 전통색채의 이해를 바탕으로 표현활동을 하도록 제시되고 있지만, 표현에 있어 전통색채의 다양한 색감이 활용되고 있지는 못함을 알 수 있다. 전통색채에 대한 바른 이해와 함께 다양한 전통색채를 학생들이 흥미롭게 접근하고 체험할 수 있게 함으로써, 전통색채에 대한 감수성을 높이고 전통색을 현대에 맞게 창의적으로 응용하여 표현할 수 있는 색채 활용능력을 길러주는 교육이 이루어져야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 청소년들에게 전통색채에 대한 인식을 높이고, 주체의식 속에 우리 민족 고유의 아름다운 색채감각을 익힐 수 있는 기회를 만들어줌으로써 선조들의 세련된 색채사용감각을 배워 전통색채를 적극적으로 활용하여 전통색을 그대로 답습하기 보다는 현대에 맞게 재창조하여 표현할 수 있는 색 감각을 길러 전통색채를 생활 속에 적극 활용할 수 있도록 하는데 목적을 두고 컴퓨터 그래픽을 활용한 표현수업을 제안하여 보다 효과적으로 접근할 수 있도록 방안을 모색하였다. 본 논문에서는 교수-학습 지도안을 총 3차시로 구성하여 실질적인 수업이 가능하도록 구체적인 적용방안을 제시하였다. 1차시 수업은 전통색채 이해단원, 2차시는 전통색채 배색방법 이해, 3차시는 컴퓨터 그래픽을 활용해 학생들이 일상생활에서 직접 접하는 소재를 배색해보는 전통색채 배색실습활동으로 이론과 실습을 병행하여 실질적인 수업이 가능하도록 구성하였다. 전통색채를 컴퓨터 그래픽에서 사용 가능하도록 하기 위해「한국 전통 표준색명 및 색상」에서 제시한 전통색 90가지 먼셀 색상값을 RGB 색상값으로 데이터를 전환시켜 활용하였다. 컴퓨터 그래픽을 활용한 표현수업은 다양한 전통색을 직접 보고 조작하고 실험하는 경험을 제공해 줌으로서 전통색채에 대한 색 감각을 기를 수 있게 하고, 색채 표현능력을 향상시킬 수 있게 해준다. 영상시대 속의 서구적인 색채에 익숙해져있는 학생들이 한국의 전통색을 이해하고 전통색채를 사용해 현대의 미적 감각에 어울리는 색채배색을 해봄으로써, 우리의 전통문화를 존중하고 계승·발전시켜야 할 대상으로 인식할 수 있는 경험을 제공할 것이다. 전통색채 교육은 발전적인 우리의 색채문화를 형성하는데 있어 도움이 될 것이고, 우리문화에 대한 주체성을 확립시키는 계기가 되어 세계화 속에서 자기 주도적 능력을 갖춘 독창적인 한국인을 육성할 수 있을 것이라 믿는다.|In modern times, color has become a way to transmit message and an important component in creating high-value products. Each country has distinctive colors that are representative of the country's natural environment and culture. In the 21st, there is a global movement to find country's own traditional colors and sense of aesthetics in order to heighten national identity and strengthen economic competitiveness. Upon close inspection of our sense of traditional colors, however, it is evident that we have lost sensitivity to our own colors as western colors have replaced ours through rapid industrialization. In order to restore the Korean sense of aesthetics in colors, we need to understand our traditional colors that represent our natural environment ideology and culture. We can achieve this goal by installing a systematic education in art. Our current education on art focuses on western standardization of colors. From our text-book, students learn five of our traditional colors (known as oh-bang-sac which is comprised of yellow, blue, white, red and black), the implications of these colors and about clothes and other daily items utilizing these colors but there is no systematic approach to educate the students about our traditional colors in depth. This kind of one dimensional education is one of the reasons why students simply understand our traditional colors to be oh-bang-sac. Through analysis and surveys, we found out that this kind of narrow approach also restricts students from appreciating our traditional colors beyond oh-bang-sac. Tradition should be adopted in modern context rather than simply replicated. Various researches indicate that our teaching guide on traditional colors encourages students to understand and use traditional colors but is not effective in guiding students to use them in practice. It is important to devise an education method that stimulates students' interest and facilitates their accurate understanding of our traditional colors. The new approach will heighten their sensitivity and enable them to utilize the colors creatively in today's environment. Therefore, our experimental teaching method aims to deepen students' understanding of the tradition Korean colors and provide them with a chance experience them. Our goal is not simply to familiarize students with the colors and make students to replicate the works of our ancestors but to nurture an ability to re-create according to today's environment. We also looked into various ways to teach students by utilizing computer graphics. This experimental teaching methods comprised of three parts: 1) the first class is designed to deepen the understanding of traditional colors 2) the second class focuses on color arrangement of traditional colors 3) the third class provides a chance for students to color everyday items by using computer graphics; this class puts emphasis on applying theories to the test. In order to use tradition colors on computer, 90 colors suggested by "The Names of the Traditional Korean Colors and Tones" were converted from numerical data to color data. The class that involves students to use computer graphics is especially effective because it offers them a chance to manipulate colors on their own. This kind of experience trains students to identify our traditional colors and use these colors. Students who are familiar with western colors through various media, these classes offer an opportunity to learn the Korean traditional colors and use them in their works at the end, they will learn to respect and the importance of preserving and improving our cultural traditions. Education on traditional colors will help us to form our own "color-culture" and find our own collective identity. This kind of education will help us to nurture leadership and creativity in this global society.
