Goth make-up appeared in the movie genre

In this study, to analyze goth makeup in movie genre, we categorize movie genres for their characteristics and analyze cosmetic elements of characters in the movie to compare similitudes and differences of goth makeup in various movie genres. We separate movies for their genres to see differences of goth makeup for each genre and character’s role. The method of this research is that we choose 12 movies in 4 genres, Fantasy, SF, Horror, Melodrama, 3 movies for each. What we observed about goth makeup in each movie genre are as follow; 1st, in the fantasy genre movies, characters with goth makeup are fictitious characters who have characteristics of unnatural and depart from the standard expressions as dreamlike, mystic, strong images. They show goth makeup like bloodless pale skin and using dark tones to express deep eyes. They express fantasy genre’s characteristics well by unusual creative hair styles and unrealistic images. 2nd, in the SF genre movies, characters with goth makeup are mainly made by futuristic imaginations and usually expressed by hideous, scary makeup like leaving out of eyebrows and using dark shadow for deep eyes, these are some of big characteristics of goth makeup. Also with dark lip colors they make spooky looks or to emphasize pale skin tone they use nude tone lip colors to express goth makeup feature. 3rd, in the horror genre movies, characters with goth makeup express human inner darkness, the main feature of goth, and their makeup is frightening according to the tension and heaviness of the story showing their purpose of revenge and strong, scary characteristics of the role. They express nature of goth makeup by pale skin, dark and thick eye makeup and dark lip color. Also black hair color is another characteristic. 4th, in the melodrama genre movies, characters with goth makeup show characteristics of rebellious mentality, antisocialism and living by own rules with diverse form of love by gloomy and dark eye makeup. They search for strong ego and to underline their sexy and beauty use smoky makeup, typical characteristic of goth. In the movies of fantasy, SF, horror, melodrama, shows common characteristic of goth makeup such as dark, mystical, gloomy, fear of unknown future, etc. Which express negative motions and for each genre, makeup of fantasy genre is unrealistic and mystic, SF genre is pale and hideous, horror genre is scary makeup to give extreme horror and melodrama shows it sexy and beautiful. Therefor for every genre of movie share base characteristics of goth makeup but there are distinctions for each movie genre. In this study, I as researcher chose 12 movies randomly to analyze goth makeup so it is hard to characterize goth makeup of each movie genre base on this results. This study is based on goth makeup in fantasy, SF, horror, melodrama genre movies but I hope there will be researches of characteristics of goth makeup in various movies continually for modern people who wanting to widen esthetic values by study of differentiated desires and new cultural fellowship.
