자아 형상과 여백의 초현실적 표현 연구

Abstract

삶이 주어진다는 것은 세상을 살아가는 사람에게는 당연한 일이지만 동시에 본인 스스로 선택 불가능한 일이다. 태어나보니 사람이었던 우리는 사회에 의해 양육되어 삶의 선택 불가능성을 인지할 때쯤엔 이미 어른이 되어있다. 사회는 인간을 어린 채로 두지 않는다. 본인 스스로 양육할 책임을 갖게 하고, 사회를 이끌어갈 건실한 어른이 되길 요구한다. 요구에 익숙해진 우리는 아침에 일어나 씻고 등교하거나 출근을 하듯이 사회 속의 구성원이 되는 것을 당연하게 느낀다. 대다수 현대인은 참된 인간상을 기준으로 삼아 자아와 사회 요구의 간극을 줄여간다. 사회의 요구가 곧 본인 성공의 척도가 되는 것이다. 하지만 동시에 자아와 사회의 타협할 수 없는 간극 사이에서 스트레스가 유발되고, 이는 곧 정신적 우울감으로 발현되기도 한다. 미술의 역사에서 삶과 우울함, 본질의 욕구를 이야기하는 작품은 예로부터 이어져 왔다. 어떠한 미술 경향이 유행하든 간에 삶의 본질에 대한 이야기하는 작업은 끊임없이 이어져 온 것이다. 초현실주의 미술은 죽음과 강박적인 반복, 그리고 현실세계에 있지만 현실을 이야기 하고 있지 않다는 점에서 본질에 맞닿아있다. 초현실주의자들은 정신분석학자인 프로이트의 꿈과 무의식의 이론을 들어 작업의 배경을 이야기 하며 죽음욕동에 한 발짝 다가간다. 또한 그들의 작업물은 사회에 대한 내제된 반발로서 이용되기도 한다. 독일의 초현실주의 작가 한스벨머는 사회의 만연했던 나치숭배 분위기에 파시스트 아버지와 국가에 대한 반발로서 인형(人形)을 제작했다. 분절된 인형의 형상으로 표현된 초현실적 인체는 당대의 사회적 분위기에 대한 반발의 대체적 이미지로서 나타난 것이다. 시각적 예술은 관람객에게 상상의 주도권을 쥐여준다. 관람객이 작품을 받아들이며 본인이 경험하는 행위다. 본인은 작업에 있어 분절된 신체라는 인형의 초현실적 형상으로 본질에 대해 질문을 하며 작품을 상상의 공간에 배치한다. 본 논문은 살아감에 있어 자아의 욕구 실현을 위해 본능적으로 쫓는 것이 무엇인지 본인의 작품을 통해 알아본다. 또한 이를 통해 억압된 자아가 인형이라는 형태로 나타나는 작품표현에 관해 연구하고자 한다. 작품은 사회를 대변할 수 있는 공간 속에서 인형으로서 등장한다. 이러한 인형의 모습은 온전한 그대로의 모습이 아닌 분절된 신체의 모습으로 표현된다. 분절된 신체라는 초현실적 형상은 작품이 놓이는 전시장의 공간과 맞물려 관객이 작품을 관람할 때 새로운 공간에 입장한 것 같은 분위기를 자아낸다. 이를 토대로 작품이 점유하는 공간의 배치와 인체의 형상을 표현하는 방식에 대해 고찰하고 도자기라는 작품의 소재 선택과 표현방법을 연구하였다. 본 논문은 2022년 석사청구전에 출품한 작품을 중심으로 하여 2019년부터2022년도까지의 연구작품이 다음과 같이 구성 되어 있다. 제1장 서론에서는 본인 작품의 연구 방향과 목적에 대해 서술하였다. 제2장 본론에서는 첫째, 사회에서 받는 필연적 억압으로 인해 발생한 우울함과 자아의 욕구에 대해 설명하고 인형을 통해 억압된 자아를 대변하려 했던 연유를 분석하였으며 경험적 미술로의 초현실주의에 대하여 공간을 분석하였다. 둘째, 작품의 표현방법으로 대체자로서 분절된 인체 형상에 관하여 서술하였으며, 이를 토대로 작품이 놓이는 설치적 공간의 구성에 대하여 설명하였다. 마지막으로 본인의 작품 7점에 대하여 개별적으로 제작방법과 작품설명을 서술하였다. 제3장 결론에서는 본 논문의 내용을 정리하고 앞으로의 작업방향을 제시하였다. | It is natural for those who live in the world to be given a life, but at the same time, they cannot choose by themselves. We, who were human beings at birth, are nurtured by society and have already become adults by the time we recognize the impossibility of choosing life. Society does not leave humans as children. Humans are asked to take responsibility for raising themselves and to become sound adults who will lead society. Getting used to these demands, we take it for granted to become a member of society, such as waking up in the morning and getting ready to go to work. Most modern people narrow the gap between the ego and society's demands by taking the true human image as their standard. Society's demands become the measure of one's success. However, at the same time, stress is induced by the irreconcilable gap between the self and society, which can soon manifest as mental depression. In the history of art, works that talk about life, depression, and desires for the essentials have been passed down since ancient times. No matter which art trends, the works talking about the essence of life have continued. Surrealist art is in line with the essence in that it touches on death and obsessive repetition and being in the real world but does not mention the real world. The surrealists take a step closer to the death-drive by citing psychoanalyst Freud's theory of dreams and the unconscious to explain the background of their work. Moreover, their artwork is used as an inherent backlash against society. A German surrealist artist ‘Hans Bellmer’ made dolls to express resistance against his fascist father and his nation where Nazi worship was prevalent. The surrealistic human body presented in the form of a segmented doll was used as an image of resistance to the social climate of the time. Visual art gives the viewer the initiative of imagination. The viewer accepts the work and experiences it oneself. As for the writer’s artwork, it questions the essence through the surrealistic figure of a doll with segmented body parts and places it in an imaginary space. This dissertation examines what are those people instinctively chase after to fulfill self-actualization needs in life, through the writer’s artwork. Furthermore, the paper will study the expression of works in which the suppressed self appears in the form of a doll. The work appears as a doll in a space that represents a certain society. The figure of these dolls is expressed as a segmented body rather than a whole figure. The segmented body interlocks with the space of the exhibition hall where the work is placed, creating an atmosphere as if the audience has entered a new space when viewing the work. Based on the writer’s work, the writer considers the layout of the exhibition space and the way the human body is expressed and studies pottery as a material and its expression method. This paper consists of the following research works from 2019 to 2022, based on the works exhibited for the Master Degree Exhibition in 2022. Chapter 1: Introduction describes the research direction and purpose of the writer’s artwork. Chapter 2: Main Body First, it explains the depression and self-actualization caused by the inevitable oppression received in society. In addition, it analyzes the reasons why dolls were used as a mean to represent the suppressed ego and space was analyzed for surrealism as an empirical art. Second, this paper describes the expression method of the artwork using segmented human body shapes as substitutes, and based on this, it will explain the composition of installation space in which the artwork is placed. Lastly, it introduces the seven pieces of the writer’s artworks with each creation method and work description. Chapter 3: Conclusion summarizes the content and suggests future work directions.
