윤흥길의 분단소설 연구 : 서사적 특성과 주제구현 양상을 중심으로

Abstract

한국 문학에서 큰 비중을 차지하며 현재까지 꾸준히 다루어져 온 소재는 '한국 전쟁과 분단문제'라 할 수 있다. 이러한 한반도 내의 분단 상황으로 인한 민족적·개인적 현 문제와 이를 극복하려는 의지를 담은 분단문학의 역사적 전개는 앞으로도 한국 문학사에서 지속적이고 확장적인 의미를 갖게 될 것이다. 이러한 한국의 분단문학 중에서 본고가 주목한 작품은 윤흥길의 분단소설이며, 본격적인 논의에 앞서 분단문학의 개념과 전개를 예비적으로 고찰하였다. 분단문학이란 분단 시대 남한에서 창작된 분단 주체의 문학 작품을 가리키는 것으로, 분단 상황을 바라보는 올바른 역사적 인식을 밑바탕으로 한 문학 작품을 가리킨다. 또한 분단 문학은 분단된 한국의 현실 상황을 극복할 수 있는 발전적인 통일관과 통일의 가능성을 전망시키는 작품이어야 할 것이다. 다음으로 소설 속에서 나타나는 주제와 기법의 분석을 통하여 분단의 의미와 특징에 대해 살펴보았다. 작품 속에서 '유년의 관찰자'로 제시되는 서술은 전쟁의 외상으로부터 벗어나 분단 문제에 대한 탈이념적인 인식과 전쟁의 비인간적인 폭력성을 연계시키면서 미학적 효과를 거두고 있었다. '성년의 경험자'는 재난의 충격을 수동적으로 받아들이는 수난자의 모습뿐만 아니라 생활인으로서 역사적 질곡을 감내하고 극복하려는 모습도 보여주었다. 이는 단순한 개인의 회상에만 머무는 것이 아니라 전쟁의 상처와 비극에서 벗어나기 위한 일종의 '자기 치유'이자 민족적 치유의 노력이라고 볼 수 있으며, 비극의 기억과 재생은 이렇듯 민족적 치유의 일면으로 분단 극복의 가능성을 열어놓는 방법으로 작용하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 작품 안에서 역설적인 표현과 무지한 화자의 서술 등으로 나타나는 아이러니 기법은 분단과 전쟁의 상황을 보다 비극적으로 제시하는 매개체가 되고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 결과적으로 이를 통해, 작가는 이념에 의한 이데올로기를 국토와 민족을 양분시켰을 뿐만 아니라 동족상잔의 처참한 전쟁을 야기한, 민족 비극의 원인으로 보고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 작가는 작품 속에서 이데올로기로 인한 갈등은 얼마든지 해소될 수 있다는 믿음을 가지고 두 체제 사이의 진정한 화해를 끌어내고자 하는 노력을 보여주었다. 즉, 윤흥길 중단편 분단소설은 전쟁자체의 역사적 의미나 이데올로기적 대립의 비극성을 추구하기보다는 인간성을 상해하는 불화 세계로서의 전쟁의 폭력성과 참상, 고난에 더 주목하고, 전쟁이 주는 고통과 성장에 관한 개인적 의미와 더불어 분단을 극복, 화합으로 나아가게 하는 민족적 의미를 추구하고 있는 것이다.|'Korean War and the Divided Korean Peninsula' have been addressed and given relative importance as the subject matter in Korean literature. The historical development of novels dealing with the divided country will continue to expand the meaning in the history of Korean literature. Those novels have tried to overcome the current national and personal troubles due to the divided condition of Korean peninsula. The paper focused on Yun Heung-gil's novels among many works in a genre of the divided Korea, and examined the concept and development of the novels dealing with the divided country, following by full-scale discussion. The novels dealing with the divided country are defined to the literary works that were written or created by the affected subject in the South Korea under the divided condition and that were based on right awareness of history and the divided state. Also, it has to show not only a developmental view of unity that will help Korea overcome the current divided condition, but also the prospect of unity. Next, the paper studied the meaning and characteristics of the divided state by analyzing the subject and writing in his novels. In the novel, a narrative from 'a child observer' has had an aesthetic effect: connecting post-ideological views on the divided condition to inhuman violence, and getting out of the war trauma. 'The experienced adult' has endured and dealt with the historical fetters as a person of life, as well as received the impact of the war disaster passively as a sufferer. It is not a personal retrospection, but an effort of 'self-healing' or a national healing to overcome the wound and tragedy of the war. In some way, the memory and reproduction of the tragedy have offered a potential chance to overcome the divided state as a part of a national healing. Besides, irony represented in paradoxical expression and ignorant speaker's narration has presented the tragedy of the divided state and war condition as a medium. Consequently, the writer suggested that the ideological beliefs caused the peninsula and nation to be divided and that it is the cause of the national tragedy, resulting in a wretched fratricidal war. Also, the writer made an effort to reconcile the two systems, with confidence that the ideological conflict can be resolved as much as he wants in his work. That is, Yun Heung-gil's short and middle stories in a genre of novels dealing with the divided country focuses on the violence, misery, and suffering of war as a disagreement doing humanity a harm, rather than the historical meaning of war itself and the tragedy of ideological conflict. In other words, his novels seek for a national meaning that will help us overcome the divided condition for harmonization, along with personal meaning of troubles and getting older in war.
