움베르토 보치오니(Umberto Boccioni)의 조각연구

Abstract

본 논문은 움베르토 보치오니(Umberto Boccioni)의 <공간에서 연속하는 단일한 형태 Unique Forms of Continuity in Space(1913)>를 중심으로, 그의 조각에 관한 연구이다. <공간에서 연속하는 단일한 형태>의 활보하는 인물은 주제와 주변 환경의 연속적인 움직임을 나타내는 환경의 조각(a Sculpture of the Environment)을 표현하고 있다. 그리고 진취적인 양상은 그가 적극적으로 동참했던 정치사상의 신념을 상징하며 물리적인 힘이 극대화된 인간형태로 표현되었다. 본 논문은 보치오니의 대표작으로 그의 모든 미술이론을 아우르는 작품이 <공간에서 연속하는 단일한 형태>라는 전제를 기본으로 하였다. 이런 논점으로 첫 장에서 보치오니의 급진적인 미술관이 형성되는데 기반이 되었던 시대적 배경과 그의 생애를 다루었다. 2장의 1절에서는 조각선언서의 바탕이 된 미래주의 회화선언서를 고찰해보았고 2절에서는 미래주의 조각선언서와 그 이론을 기반으로 제작한 조각들을 조명하였다. 3장에서는 보치오니의 조각이론에서 구심점 역할을 하는 두 이론을 2개의 절로 나누어 고찰했다. 1절에서는 베르그송 철학(Henri Bergson)의 영향과 독자적인 이론으로 전개한 조형적 다이나미즘(Plastic Dynamism)을, 2절에서는 조르주 소렐(George Sorel)의 정치사상으로 형성된 민족주의사상의 영향을 조명하였다. 마지막 장1절에서는 그의 모든 이론을 내포한 <공간에서 연속하는 단일한 형태>에서 전진하는 인체로 표현된 연속적인 움직임을, 2절에서는 기계화된 인간 형태의 특징을 조명하였다. 이를 통해 논자는 보치오니의 조각이론의 형성에 베르그송 철학의 수용이 중요한 역할을 했고 작품에 나타난 급진적이고 역동적인 양상은 이탈리아 민족주의사상의 영향에 의한 결과로 고찰해 보고자했다. 따라서 보치오니의 <공간에서 연속하는 단일한 형태>는 주제와 주변 환경이 하나로 융합된 조형적 다이나미즘을 나타내며 인간의 능력을 초월한 기계화된 형태는 작가가 열망한 이탈리아의 찬란한 미래를 상징하고 있는 것이다.|This is a study on Umberto Boccioni's sculptures, centering on <Unique Forms of Continuity in Space (1913)>. The striding figure in the work is an expression of a Sculpture of the Environment showing a theme and continuous movements of surrounding environment. The progressive aspect symbolizes his belief in the political idea in which he actively participated and is expressed in the form of a human being with maximized physical strength. On the assumption that Unique Forms of Continuity in Space is Boccioni's masterpiece which covers his all theories of art, this study examines properties found in the sculpture. From this viewpoint, Chapter 1 discusses temporal background that laid the foundation of his radical view of art and his career. Chapter 2 examines the futurist art declaration forming a basis of the sculpture declaration in Section 1 and the futurist sculpture declaration and sculptures manufactured on the basis of the theory in Section 2. Chapter 3 discusses two theories exerting important effects on the development of his sculpture theories in two sections. Section 1 examines the influences of Henri Bergson's philosophy and plastic dynamism developed with an independent theory; Section 2 examines the influences of the idea of nationalism formed by George Sorel's political idea. The final chapter examines continuous movements expressed by a progressing human body in <Unique Forms of Continuity in Space> implying all his theories in Section 1 and characteristics of mechanized forms of human beings in Section 2. This study tried to show that Boccioni's theory of sculpture was significantly influenced by Henry Bergson's philosophy and that progressive and dynamic features of his work are attribute to Italian nationalism. Thus, Boccioni's representative sculpture <Unique Forms of Continuity in Space> expresses plastic dynamism, the combination of un limited internal and external motions. And its mechanized figure that outperforms humans symbolizes Italy's bright future the sculpture longed for.
