A Study on Application of Web-based PBL for Early Childhood Pre- teacher : Focused on the case of safety accidents
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to apply Web-based PBL on the child safety accidents for early childhood pre-teacher to examine the participation and recognition of early childhood pre-teacher in Web-based PBL. And to examine the applicability and feasibility of Web-based PBL to foster early childhood teacher with practical knowledges of child safety and reflective thinking skills.
The research questions are as follow:
1. How is early childhood pre-teacher's and facilitator's participation in Web- based PBL focused on the case of child safety accidents?
2. How is early childhood pre-teacher's recognition on the child safety accidents?
For this: 50 early childhood pre-teachers participated Web based PBL for 15 weeks from September to December in 2006 finally. In PBL program, data were collected from group/individual reports, reflective journal, peer reviews, and analyzed qualitatively by content analysis.
The following summarizes the results of this study:
First, participation in Web-based PBL occurred for early childhood pre-teacher and their facilitator. Early childhood pre-teacher were first afraid of PBL learning, but gradually developed expectations for reflective thinking. However, they were burdened by the long hours in intensive learning and showed excessive competition with colleagues. Facilitators participated as a co-learner and colleague.
Second, Early childhood pre-teacher learned about the cause, prevention and treatment of safety accidents through the Web-based PBL on child safety accidents. They understood child development and sought for integrative measures to prevent safety accidents. Early childhood pre-teacher recognized various possible safety accidents and fast and proper treatments are necessary. They also learned about the legal liabilities concerning child safety accidents.
