영화 '어벤져스' 캐릭터에 나타난 특수분장

Abstract

오늘날의 대중문화로 자리매김한 영화는 인류가 발전함에 따라 다양한 방법으로 발전하였고, 인간의 본능이 충족됨으로서 신체적 안녕이나 건강·여가·문화생활에 관심을 표출하였다. 본 논문은 시리즈마다 큰 흥행을 거두고 있는 슈퍼히어로 영화 중 최근까지 가장 인기 있는 시리즈물로 제작되어지고 있는 영화 ‘어벤져스’ 시리즈를 주제로 하여 캐릭터에 나타난 특수 분장에 대해 연구하였다. 10대를 초월한 2, 30대의 청년과 중·장년층까지도 영화의 관심이 고조되고 있는바 시대적 흐름인 문화생활 속에서 표현되어진 영화 ‘어벤져스’를 분석하여 영화의 중심 역할을 하는 주요 캐릭터들에게서 나타나는 개성과 특수 분장의 종류 및 기법에 대하여 연구함으로서 국내 영화 시장의 창의적이고 다양한 발전을 위한 특수 분장의 기초 자료로써 기여할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 연구방법은 국내·외 단행본과 선행연구, 전문서적 등을 중심으로 영화 공식사이트 외 인터넷 자료, DVD자료, 사진수집 등을 기초로 하여 시각적 관점에서 ‘어벤져스’ 캐릭터에 나타난 특수 분장을 분석하였다. 실질적인 연구를 하기에 앞서, 보통 영화의 영웅물은 선과 악으로 구분되는 양상을 띄며 대립되는 형태에서 시각적인 모습들이 대조적으로 표출된다. 따라서 연구자는 캐릭터의 선과 악 유형을 인상학적 특성으로 분류하였다. 영화 ‘어벤져스’ 시리즈에서 특수 분장이 나타난 캐릭터 형태에 따라 선한 캐릭터는 캡틴 아메리카, 토르, 헐크, 아이언맨, 비전, 악한 캐릭터는 로키, 울트론, 타노스, 네뷸라, 에보니 모로 선정하였다. 선한 캐릭터의 캡틴 아메리카는 80세 노인의 모습을 표현하기 위해 프로스테틱스 분장을 적용하였으며, 토르는 뚱뚱해진 신체와 얼굴을 표현하기 위해 프로스테틱스 분장으로 나타났다. 거대해진 초록색의 신체 변화를 보여주는 헐크는 프로스테틱스 분장으로 표현되었으나 자연스러움의 한계점을 디지털 분장으로 완성시켰다. 아이언맨이 첨단 기술의 아이언맨 슈트를 착용한 모습은 프로스테틱스 분장과 애니메트로닉스 분장으로 적용되었으며 모션 캡처를 통한 디지털 분장으로 나타났다. 비전의 안드로이드 신체는 프로스테틱스 분장을 적용하여 표현되었으며 비전의 능력과 피부표현에는 디지털 분장을 적용한 모습을 알 수 있었다. 악한 캐릭터의 로키는 선명한 녹색의 눈동자를 나타내기 위해 디지털 분장을 적용하여 나타났다. 울트론은 괴물이나 다름없는 기괴한 외형의 울트론 MARK1과 비브라늄으로 만들어진 외형의 사이보그 울트론 프라임을 표현하기 위해 디지털 분장을 사용하였다. 타노스는 자주색 몸과 육중한 갑옷을 입은 신체의 모습을 3D 모델링 과정을 거친 흉상에 디지털 분장을 적용하였다. 네뷸라는 온 몸이 파랗게 기계화 되어있는 모습을 프로스테틱스 분장을 통해 표현하였다. 에보니 모는 신체의 비율에 비해 과장된 손과 이질적인 외모를 표현하기 위해 모션 캡처를 통한 디지털 분장으로 적용되었다. 본 연구는 현 시대에서 가장 각광받고 있는 영화인 ‘어벤져스’ 시리즈에 나타난 특수 분장을 살펴봄으로서, 국내에서도 다양한 소재의 영화 발전과 함께 미래 영화산업에 부각되고 있는 캐릭터들의 활용 가치를 높이고자 하였다. 또한, 그 캐릭터를 나타내는 특수 분장의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있고, 표현의 한계점을 극복하고자 지속적인 후속 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. |This paper is designed to research the theoretical background, specialized books and documents on the makeup and the special makeup and analyze the makeup for the characters appearing in the film “The Avengers” series in order to suggest the study on the analysis of characters of the actors and actresses applied with the makeup and special makeup elements in the film “The Avengers”. The results of the analysis are as follows. The films have taken a firm position as one genre of public entertainment culture and has developed in various ways along with the development of humanity. Along with the satisfaction of human’s basic instincts, human has shown more interest in physical comfort, health, leisure and entertainment and has always the desire of trying to enjoy an eternal youth. As such, we humans have enjoyed cultural lifestyle in many conditions and methods and our culture has pursued the change of time for each period through oral transmission or tradition. Our cultural value has been the target for longing around the world over Asia, which can be understood through the research of artistic and cultural classics, prior papers, degree papers, academic papers, reports and videos by various mass media and documental theory. Let’s take a look at the background of the birth of “The Avengers” series. The first film was based on the comic “Avengers” published by Marvel Comics. Starting with the 1st film “The Avengers”, the series have the second film “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”, the third film “The Avengers: Infinity War” and the fourth film “The Avengers: End Game”. As these superhero comics are based on various topics and characters surpassing one period, they have created a new commercial trend creating 21st century culture in terms of artistic and cultural contents, thus paving the way toward the superhero movie industry. This study would closely analyze the various characters of superheroes focusing on the Avengers series which were the focus of the works produced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe to cause more interests in the original comics which have been the foundation of the movies. It would also find out the artistic and cultural contents of the Marvel Films which lead the main trend in the pop culture. First, the definitions and characteristics of character have been analyzed and the personality and image of the characters appearing in the topics as well as the genre elements of Marvel films were also analyzed. Second, the characteristics of special makeup and special effects appearing in the Avengers films and the characteristics of various makeups appropriate for the personality of the characters were visually analyzed. Third, the original works which have been the foundation of the Marvel Comic’s world view over Marvel Studio and the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s comic works has been analyzed as they have been the focus of the popularity. In this study, the theories applied to the Marvel Studio’s films were researched through related books and the various media were searched to analyze the makeup elements for the actors and actresses appearing in the film “The Avengers”. In addition, the technique and theories of people who have made efforts for the production of movies in Western and Eastern trends have been studied in order to shed lights on the value of various characters appearing in the films and to be helpful in the film industry. This study was made expecting that the character works would play a critical role in the 21st century successful artistic and cultural industry.
