영자 신문의 4 기능지도 활용방안

Abstract

1장에서는 고들학교 영어 교육을 함에 있어서 교과서 외의 교육 매체로 영자 신문을 선택한 이유와 영자 신문으로 4기능 능력의 향상을 연두하고자 하는 목적과 필요성에 대해 밝히고, 논문의 제한점을 밝힌다. 연구의 방법 및 내용에서는 연구 대상과 제 7차 교육 과정에서 밝힌 4기능(듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기)의 각각의 성취기준을 제시하고 본론에서 이에 따라 활용방안에 대해 논한다.

2장에서는 신문 활용 교육에 관한 이론적 배경에 대해 제시한다. NIE의 국내와 등장 배경과 신문 활용 교육리 무엇인지 개념과 목적을 밝힌다. 또한 NIE의 교육적 효과를 제시함으로 영자신문을 활용하면 교육적으로 어떤 효과를 가져 올지 간략히 살펴본다. 또한 NIE가 국제적으로 어떻게 발생되었고, 현재 어떻게 실행되고 있는지 현재 적극 시행되고 있는 미국, 캐나다, 일본, 영국, 독일, 스웨덴, 핀란드 국가들에ㅓ NIE가 실행 방법들에 대해 살펴보다. 또한 현재 신문 활용 교육에 관한 연구가 어느 정도 이루어져 있는지 선행 연구들을 통해 본 논문과 비교, 대조 해보아 본 논문만의 차별화된 특성을 밝힌다. 신문을 영어 교육의 매체로 선택한 이유는 다양한 신문의 구성요소들 때문인데, 대표적인 요소들이 사진,광고, 일반기사, 사설, 만화, 일기예보, TV편성표, 인물, 공연 정보를 살펴보고 어떻게 수업에서 이들이 적극 활용 될 수 있는지 간략히 알아본다. 마지막으로 신문 활용 교육을 함에 있어서 교사는 어떤 자세를 취해야하는지 교사의 역할을 다섯 가지로 제시한다. 3장은 본론으로 듣기,말하기,읽기, 쓰기, 지도 활용 방안을 재시하는 가장 핵심되는 부분이다. 임의로 선정한 중앙일보 영자 신문 IHT(2006년 10월 5일), 코리아 헤럴드(2006년 11월 3일)의 실제 신문자료를 활용하여 교실에서 학생들을 교수할수 있는 방법들을 연구해 본다. 각 기능을 영자 신문의 대표적인 요소들인 사진, 광고, 일반기사, 사설, 만화, 일기 예보, TV편성표, 인물, 공연의 9가지 요소를 이용해 어떻게 향상 시킬 수 있는지 살펴본다.

4장 결론에서는 영자신문이 영어 ?Z에 있어 훌륭한 교육 매체가 될 수 있음을 제시하고, 본론에서는 연구한 4 기능(듣기, 말하기,읽기, 쓰기)의 지도시 유의할 점과, 각 기능을 영자시문으로 학습했을때 향상될 수 있는 특징들을 제시한다. 또한 한국에서 영어 교과서 외의 영자신문 같은 다른 여러 매체들을 사용하려 수업이 효과적으로 이루어지기 위해서 국가와 학교, 교사의 앞으로 나아가야 할 방안에 관해 제언한다.|The 7th National Curriculum of High School English explicitly states that teachers should teach by using a variety of teaching materials, such as English newspapers and the Internet, and teach the four communicative skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) equally. Nonetheless, the national college entrance exam for English evaluates only reading and listening. The purpose of this study is to show the effects of using English newspapers in teaching students in the first grade of high school, in order to raise their communicative abilities to the levels prescribed by the 7th National Curriculum of High School English. The results were as follows:

First and foremost is the quality of the scripts used in the listening exercises. In order to teach listening effectively, teachers should prepare scripts in advance. Teachers should record the prepared scripts before the class on audio formats. By using English newspapers, students can perform various activities such as matching, transferring, and choosing correct answers after listening to the scripts. These activities proved interesting and fun, and encouraged students to be original and creative. Second, fluency and accruacy are equally important in speaking exercises. When teaching English through English newspapers, teachers can allow the students to speak about a variety of topics, such as interesting TV programs, performances and celebrities, all of which can have students the motivation to speak spontaneously: By calling restaurants listed in the newspapers, conducting interviews and announcing the news, students can learn how to speak a more practical, real-life English. Third, the active reading of a text is extremely important. One can improve her thinking power using English newspapers to locate the "5W1H" of journalism, to understand logical structures of written text, and to distinguish between fact and opinion. Furthemore, reading newspapers helps students build on their background information. Fourth, it is essential for teachers to give students feedback on their writing. If students are assigned to write something, they need to be advised at all times. Filling out a resume after reading an adverisement in the newspaper or writng an editorial letter are activities that not only correspond with guidelines of the 7th National Curriculum of High School for English, but also help students use English in a more practicalsense. We now know that English newspapers are good materials for students to use in order to improve the four communicative skills, but students and educators are burdened by a rather antiquated educational model. The Korean government should develop a new evaluation system by testing these four skills equally. By doing this, most of the schools that have focused on listening and reading tests can use English newspapers as more effective instructional materials. Like in other countries, the government and newspaper companies in Korea should provide free NIE materrials to schools. The most important thing is that teachers should familiarize themselves with English newspapers, and in preparation for teaching they should be able to re-edit newspaper articles to match the students' levels and needs.
