신성의 회복을 위한 자연 오브제와 인공물의 혼성 표현 연구

Abstract

This paper details the creative process and the researches I have done for my art projects exhibited from 2015 to 2019; it especially studies an art exhibition called Our Harps ;;;; Take your harp down from the branches of the poplers, submitted as my master’s degree final project. The research focuses on ways to portray relationships between aspects of divinity in nature and Christian symbols so that the collaboration of these two ideas would make the art piece seemingly transcend reality. It describes how relationships between divinity in nature and Christian symbols were expressed through the collaboration of natural and artificial artifacts. The paper elaborates the details of my creative process, explaining how I sensed the presence of a Creator when gazing into the natural - 58 objects around me. This divine presence in nature had reminded me of Biblical symbols due to my Christian background. Thus, rocks and trees mentioned in the Bible were expressed as symbols of divinity in the art exhibition. Struggles of overcoming my disconnection with God were captured in the exhibition by interweaving divine aspects in nature with Biblical symbols. Then, these ideas were expressed using a mixture of natural and artificial materials. Furthermore, the paper describes how natural and artificial objects in the exhibition were regarded as dead objects that had been pitifully separated from nature. It explains my attempt to restore a sense of divinity to the lifeless objects by mixing the natural and artificial objects to form one art piece. The pursuit of restoring life to the dead objects is tied in with my reflection about the vital connection I have with my Creator. Overall, this thesis is mainly centered around the research about one art exhibition, Our Harps ;;;; Take your harp down from the branches of the poplers, with brief mentions of other projects. The first chapter introduces the research purpose and method. The second chapter describes the theoretical backgrounds and the styles of expression that were foundational for the art piece. In the second chapter, aspects of divinity in Christian symbols and nature as well as the use of natural and artificial objects are explained. Next, reproduction of divine aspects embedded in nature and the expression of works through the mixture of natural objects and artifacts are described. Then, an analysis of the projects from 2015-2019 is laid out. Finally, chapter three gives a concluding summary with additional detail regarding the directions of this project’s future development.|본 논문은 2015년부터 2019년까지 본인 작업 중 석사청구전에 전시되었던 작품을 중심으로 연구한 결과를 수록한 것이다. 본인은 자연에 깃든 신성과 기독교적 상징이 작품을 통해 초월적 이미지로 구현되는 과정을 연구하였다. 그리고 작품으로 구현된 초월적 이미지들이 자연 오브제와 인공물의 혼성을 통해 재현되는 방식을 연구하였다. 본인은 자연과 마주할 때, 자연에 깃든 신성을 느낀다. 이 신성은 본인의 기독교 신앙을 토대로 기독교적 상징과 연결된다. 그리고 본인은 작품 속에서 성경에 등장하는 나무와 돌을 자연에 깃든 신성의 상징으로 제시하고 있다. 이와 같이 본인은 작품 속에서 기독교 신앙을 토대로 자연과 기독교적 상징에 깃든 신성을 포착하고 연결하여 본인과 신의 단절을 극복하고자 시도한다. 이러한 시도는 자연 오브제와 인공물을 혼성하는 것으로 표현된다. 본인 작품 속에서 사용되는 자연 오브제와 인공물은 자연과 분리되어 신성을 잃어버린 연민의 대상이다. 본인은 자연과 분리된 자연 오브제와 인공물을 혼성시켜 초월적 이미지를 구현함으로 자연 오브제와 인공물이 잃어버린 신성을 회복하고자 시도한다. 신성 안에서 자연과 인공물 그리고 본인에게 보이지 않지만 신성의 회복을 위한 시도로 구현된 초월적 이미지는 서로 밀접하게 연결되어 있음을 드러낸다. 본 논문은 2019년 석사청구전에 출품한 작품을 바탕으로 다음과 같이 구성되었다. 제1장 서론에서는 본인 작품에 관한 연구 방향과 목적을 서술하였다. 제2장 본론에서는 작품 형성의 근거가 되는 이론적 고찰들과 작품표현형식에 대해 서술하였다. 첫째, 신성이 깃든 자연과 기독교적 상징 이미지, 자연 오브제와 인공물에 대해 서술하였다. 둘째, 신성이 깃든 자연 이미지의 재현, 자연 오브제와 인공물의 혼성을 통한 작품표현방법을 서술하였다. 셋째, 본인 작품에 대하여 개별적으로 분석하였다. 제3장 결론에서는 본 논문의 작품과 내용을 정리하고 작업의 발전 방향을 모색하였다.
