식물채집을 통한 생명의 존재성 연구

Abstract

이 논문은 대학원 석사학위 청구 논문으로서 2005년부터 2008년 사이에 제작된 본인의 작품들을 내용적(內容的) 측면과 조형적(造形的) 측면에서 분석하고 고찰하였다. 작가는 작품을 제작하면서 조형 대상과 소통하면서 기존의 이미지를 새롭게 조명하기도 하고 보편적 사고와는 전혀 다른 인식을 재구성하여 새로운 안목을 갖게 하기도 한다. 본인 작품의 소재는 식물이다. 식물은 정적이고 일상적으로 접할 수 있는 대상이다. 그러나 생명성을 지닌 이미지라는 점에 착안하면 식물은 그 어떤 다른 생물체보다도 역동적인 생명성을 지니고 있고 이로 인해 주목받을만한 가치가 있다. 즉 식물은 역동적이고 근원적인 생명력을 가지고 있는 대상이다. 본인은 이와 같은 식물을 조형화하고 미적으로 표현하는 과정에서 식물의 생명 이미지를 재조명하고 식물의 생명성에 대한 새로운 인식을 할 수 있었다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 과정을 내용적, 조형적 측면에서 분석하였다. 내용적 측면에서는 ‘생명체의 의미’와 ‘조형 대상으로서의 식물의 생명성’에 대하여 논의한다. 첫째 ‘생명체의 의미’를 표현하는데 있어서 씨앗이나 뿌리, 줄기, 잎과 열매 등과 같은 식물의 구조는 역동적이고 원형적인 식물의 생명의 이미지를 나타내기에 매우 적절하다. 이러한 해석을 바탕으로 본인은 식물의 구조를 다양한 방식으로 조형화한다. 또한 식물의 생애와 채집 후의 전 과정을 통해 식물의 잔재와 흔적을 탐색하고 생명의 의미를 탐색한다. 둘째, ‘조형 대상으로서의 식물의 생명성’은 비가시적이고 암묵적이다. 이러한 특성 때문에 식물은 자세히 관찰하고 지속적으로 채집하면서 새로운 관점에서 식물을 파악해야만 새로운 조형 대상으로 파악될 수 있고 식물에서 유기적이고 역동적인 생명성을 발견할 수 있다. 즉 식물을 정밀하게 관찰하고 존재성의 관점에서의 재구성화하고 조형화하는 과정에서 식물의 생명성과 소통할 수 있게 된다. 조형적 측면에서는 식물의 생명성을 보다 적절하게 표현하기 위한 조형적 요소로서 ‘선과 면’, ‘나열’, ‘설치’, ‘모노톤’, ‘드로잉’으로 분류하여 연구하였다. 첫째, 다양한 도구를 활용하여 선을 표현하거나 점과 면의 형태로 선을 변형하는 작업을 통해 식물의 구조를 조형화한다. 둘째, 식물을 다각적 관점에서 관찰하고 조형화한 것을 한 화면에 나열함으로써 식물을 원형에 가장 가까운 형태로 재현한다. 셋째, 식물의 원형과 조형화한 대상을 동일 공간에 설치함으로써 식물의 생명성의 원형과 변화과정을 표현한다. 넷째, 식물을 표현하는 색채의 경우 갈색이나 회색 톤의 모노톤을 사용하여 식물의 다채로움 속에 함의된 원형적 색채를 부각시키는 동시에 자연스러운 표현을 시도한다. 다섯째, 드로잉은 채집과 동시에 식물의 원형과 채집 장소, 시간, 채집 채집자의 정서를 담고 있는 기록으로써 식물과의 소통을 위한 출발점이다. 이러한 드로잉 작품을 조형 작품과 함께 전시함으로써 식물과의 소통을 제안하고 친밀한 관계형성을 도모한다. 본인은 지나치기 쉽고 작은 식물을 통해 역동적이고 원형적인 생명의 이미지와 미적 요소를 조형화하여 표현하고자 했다. 또한 작은 식물을 관찰하고 소통하는 경험을 통하여 생명의 신비와 경이로움을 체험할 수 있었고 이러한 경험을 다양한 미적 요소를 통해 표현하고자 했다. 본인은 이러한 경험을 관객과 함께 공유하며 소통함으로써 생명의 가치와 의미를 재고하는 기회를 제공할 수 있길 기대하며 나아가 본인의 작품 세계를 조망하고 앞으로의 작업 전개에 새로운 시사점을 얻고자 한다.|This thesis is for analyzing the contents side and plastic side about my works made from 2005 to 2008 as a thesis to apply for master's degree. The artist re-focuses traditional images in a new way and, reconstructs knowledge much different from traditional knowledge as she works. This makes us to have a new view. A main material of this work is PLANTS. They're very static and easily been found around us. But they're more dynamic and deserve to be focused than any other creatures in a view of biological image. That is, plants are subjects which involves dynamic and original life power. I was able to re-focus life images of plants and have a new recognition about life power of plants. This thesis analyses these progresses in content, modeling way. In the contents side of this thesis, I discuss the meaning of life and the life of plant as a modeling subject. First, in expressing the meaning of life, structures of plants like seeds, stems, leaves are very proper to represent the image of life. Based on this analysis, I shape structures of plants in various ways. In addition, by a lifetime of plants and whole precesses after collecting, I search trace of plants and meaning of life. Second, 'Life of plants as a modeling object' is invisible and silent. Because of these characters, plants can be understood as a new modeling object only when they are observed fully and collected constantly. That is, we can communicate with plants by observing closely, reconstructing and modeling them. On modeling side, I explain modeling object for expressing life of plant properly, classify by 'line and face', 'enumeration', 'installation', 'monotone', 'drawing'. First, express lines or change shape of lines into dots and faces by using various tools. Second, Observe and model the plant in many-sided views, and express the plant in most realistic way by enumerating it on one canvas. Third, By installing actual plants and modeling objects in same space, express original shape of plants and changing process. Fourth, In case of color to express plant, I bring original color included in the diversity of plant into relief and try natural expression by using the monotone of brown or gray tone. Fifth, making into information by recording original form, collecting place, time, and emotion related to collecting in drawing work simultaneously with collecting may pass with plant. And, exhibiting this result material with the work made into modeling contrives the formation of relation to be intimate with plant. I tried to express the image of dynamic and original life and aesthetic element through small plant to be easy to overlook. In addition, I could experience the mystery and wonder of life through experience of observing and communicating small plant, and I tried to express this experience through diverse aesthetic elements. I hope to offer the opportunity to reconsider the value and meaning of life by sharing this experience with spectators. Further, I try to look out of my work world and obtain new suggestion for future work development.
