상실의 감정과 경험에 대한 표현 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 2023년의 ‘기억할 모든 죽음과 넋들에게 초를 밝힐 것’ 석사 학위 청구 전시 작품들을 바탕으로 상실의 감정과 경험에 주목하여 이를 화면에 표현하는 방법에 관한 논문이다.

예술은 삶 속에서의 수많은 외적 요소인 경험과 그로부터 생겨난 생각, 감정과 같은 내면적 요소들로부터 시작된다. 그렇기 때문에 감정과 경험은 작품의 중요한 요소가 된다. 본인의 작품은 개인적인 경험을 바탕으로 생각과 감정을 표현하는데, 특히 상실의 감정과 경험을 중심으로 한다. 이를 작업으로 표현하기 위해서는 본인이 겪었던 상실감을 직시하고 떠올려 있는 그대로 받아들여야 했고, 이는 하나의 사건이 아닌 삶 속의 수많은 다른 경험과의 상호작용을 통해 다양한 형태의 작업으로 발현되었다. 상실의 감정과 경험을 상기하여 시각적 언어로 표현하는 방법으로 문자를 회화에 활용하는데, 이를 서로 다른 매체인 문자와 회화를 하나의 동일한 내재적 사고와 감성을 전달하는 예술로서 설명하였다. 더불어 이러한 비가시적인 상실의 감정과 경험을 가시적인 흔적의 형태로 표현하기 위한 재료와 표현 방법에 대해 서술하였으며, 이와 같은 표현 방식들이 본인의 작품에 어떻게 나타나 있는지 살펴보았다.

슬픔과 고통을 동반한 상실의 감정들은 내면에 축적되고 응축된다. 이를 창작을 통한 감정 표출 행위를 통해 내면의 부정적 요소들을 치유하고 환기 시키고자 하며, 더 나아가 개인적이지만 보편적인 상실의 경험을 화면에 담담히 담아내어 보는 이들로 하여금 위로가 되는 작품으로 발전시키고자 한다.|This thesis explores the intricate portrayal of emotions and experiences of loss within the realm of Oriental painting, drawing inspiration from the exhibition titled 'Illuminating Moments for Every Death and Spirit to Remember,' which serves as the centerpiece for my Master's degree thesis in 2023.

In Oriental painting, art finds its roots in myriad external influences—life experiences, thoughts, and deeply stirring emotions that emerge from within. My artistic creations serve as a reflection of personal thoughts and emotions, particularly centered around the intricate tapestry of feelings associated with loss. To encapsulate this essence within my work, I embarked on a journey to confront and embrace the multifaceted sense of loss stemming from diverse interactions across various life experiences, eschewing reliance on a singular defining event. Visualizing these emotions and experiences of loss prompted me to combine text within the realm of painting, creating a harmonious fusion that conveys a unified intrinsic thought and emotion. Furthermore, this thesis delves into the exploration of materials and methodologies, seeking to articulate these intangible emotions of loss by capturing them as visible imprints on the canvas. The employed expressive techniques capture emotions through strokes and hues intrinsic to Oriental painting, manifesting as traces.

Feelings of loss, often accompanied by a profound sense of sadness and pain, gradually transform into artworks during the artistic process. Through creative expression, my intention is to serve as a conduit, facilitating the healing and ventilation of these internal adversities. These deeply personal yet universally relatable experiences of loss transform into artworks that aim to offer solace to viewers—an open acknowledgment and portrayal of emotions unveiled upon the canvas.

Within the realm of Oriental painting, this thesis aims to honor the emotional depth inherent in loss, transmuting these profound sentiments into visual tapestries that resonate with the human spirit.
