- Abstract
- According to numerous previous studies, the social rejection has the contradictory effects on prosocial behavior intention. Many studies have shown whether the social rejection can increase prosocial behavior intention. The purpose of this study is to examine the moderated mediating effects of need to belong and self-esteem on the relationship between social rejection and prosocial behavior intention. The total 296 Koreans who work for wages were randomly assigned to two conditions: one is the social rejection condition and the other is control condition. The participants reported their levels of self-esteem, need to belong and prosocial behavior intention through the macromilembrain. This study has tested two moderated mediation models, which are one model with intention to using money prosocially as a dependent variable (used data from 156 participants for the analysis) and the other model with intention to using time prosocially as a dependent variable (used data from 140 participants for the analysis). Two moderated mediation models’ data have been analyzed separately in accordance with the order effect. The moderated mediating effect of self-esteem on the relationship between social rejection and prosocial behavior intention through the need to belong have been analyzed. The results through SPSS PROCESS macro have revealed the moderated mediation effects of using money intention and using time intention are not significant, but some significant directions are meaningful: priming feelings of being socially rejected increase the intention to using money prosocially, and need to belong increase the intention to using money and time prosocially. These results support the existing theory on the relationship between social rejection and prosocial behavior intention. Based on these results, the implications and limitations of this study as well as the directions for future research have been discussed.|여러 선행 연구들에서 사회적 거부가 친사회적 행동 의도에 상반된 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 보여주었다. 본 연구에서는 사회적 거부와 친사회적 행동 의도 사이에서 소속 욕구와 자기존중감이 조절된 매개효과를 보이는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위하여, 마크로밀엠브레인을 통하여 모집된 296명의 직장인들을 사회적 거부 조건과 통제 조건으로 무선할당하고, 자기존중감, 소속 욕구 및 친사회적 행동 의도에 대하여 응답하도록 요청하였다. 본 연구에서는 친사회적 행동 의도를 금전 사용 의도 및 시간 사용 의도로 측정하였으며, 친사회적 행동 의도 측정에서 순서 효과가 관찰됨에 따라 연구 참가자들의 자료를 친사회적 금전 사용 의도에 대한 156명의 자료와 친사회적 시간 사용 의도에 대한 140명의 자료로 나누어 분석하였다. SPSS PROCESS macro를 통해 조절된 매개효과를 검증한 결과, 본 연구의 주요 가설이 지지되지는 않았지만, 일부 경로에서 가설과 일관된 결과가 관찰되었다. 구체적으로, 사회적 거부가 친사회적 행동 의도를 증가시키는 것이 금전 사용 의도를 결과변수로 하는 모형에서 발견되었으며, 소속 욕구가 친사회적 행동 의도를 증가시키는 것이 금전 사용 의도 및 금전 사용 의도를 결과변수로 하는 모형에서 관찰되었다. 이러한 본 연구의 결과는 사회적 거부가 친사회적 행동 의도를 증가시킨다는 기존의 가설을 지지하는 결과이다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 시사점, 제한점 및 후속 연구의 방향에 대해 논하였다.
