사교육 산업의 공간적 분포 특성

Abstract

우리사회에서 사교육은 수요의 양적 팽창과 함께 그 대상 연령의 범위도 확대되어 왔고 그 내용과 규모가 지속적으로 성장하여 공교육만큼이나 보편화된 상태이다. 그러나 공공성에 기초한 공교육과 달리 영리를 목적으로 하는 사교육은 수요 계층의 공간적 분포와 특징에 따라 그 관련 시설의 입지가 결정되면서 우리 사회의 지역적 격차를 만들어 내는 핵심적 요소로 인식되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 사교육 산업의 수요 대상을 기존의 초․중․고등학교 학생뿐만 아니라 학령기 이전의 유치원생 및 대학생까지 확대하고, 각 연령대별 그들의 거주지 분포와 관련 사교육 시설의 분포에 나타나는 공간적 특징을 분석하였다. 특히 수도권 지역을 대상으로 2008년 사교육 산업의 대표적 형태인 사설학원 및 사설학원 수강자의 공간적 분포를 유형별․지역별로 분석하였고 연령별 사설학원 수강자의 분포와 이에 해당하는 연령별 거주인구 분포를 비교 분석하여 학원 수강을 위한 지역 간 이동 흐름을 확인하였다. 또한, 공간적 상관분석을 통해 사설학원의 유형에 따라 사설학원 수강자의 수요와 군집 패턴에 뚜렷한 차이가 있음을 파악하였다. 마지막으로 유형별 사설학원 및 수강자의 분포에 영향을 미치는 사회․경제적 속성을 찾아내고자 다중회귀분석을 수행하였고 유의미한 설명변수를 도출하였다. 본 연구는 이제까지 사교육의 교육적 측면만을 다룬 기존의 연구들과 달리 공간적, 사회․경제적 측면에서 접근한 다각적인 실증 분석이라는 점에서 그 의의가 있다. | Tutoring education has been common as much as school education in Korea. In particular, the age-scope of demand for tutoring education has been expanded more and more. At the result, tutoring industry has been increased continuously both in terms of the quantity and the context. This Thesis investigates the spatial characteristics of tutoring industries and the consumer groups. For the purpose, this study analyzes the spatial characteristics of various types of tutoring institutes in the Seoul Metropolitan area. This study exams the spatial distribution patterns of attendants of tutoring institutes by institution type as well as the resident population by attendant age-group. By applying spatial auto-correlation analysis, this study examines the spatial clustering patterns of tutoring institutes and attendants by type. The results show distinct differences in the spatial distribution patterns by tutoring institutes type and by attendant age-group. The correlation between influencing social·economic attributes and spatial distribution of tutoring institutes and attendants by type had been drew meaningful independent variables through multiple regression analysis. This Thesis is an attempt of multidirectional empirical analysis of tutoring industries in the Seoul metropolitan area. In particular, this study focuses on the spatial and social·economic aspect approach. It can give meaningful information to the future researches on the tutoring education and education policies in Korea.
