빛을 통한 주체적인 삶의 조형적 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 2017년 본인의 석사 학위 청구전 ‘Light of vision’에 출품된 작품을 중심으로 내용과 조형적 표현을 분석한 것이다. 인간은 매 순간 자신이 나아가야 할 삶의 길을 선택하여 삶을 영위 할 수밖에 없다. 본인은 항상 나아갈 길에 대한 선택과 나아가고 있는 길에 대해 극심한 심리적 불안감을 가지고 있다. 어린 시절 예기치 못한 부모님과의 격리가 본인의 불안한 심리적 정서에 기인하였으며, 이의 극복으로 본인은 ‘이불'에 대물애착(object Attachment)을 형성하였다. 이는 성인이 된 지금까지도 이어 지고 있다. 이불이 만들어내는 높고 낮은 구릉과 구겨진 궤적은 알지 못하는 우리의 삶의 여정과 흡사하며, 극한 어두움과 빛의 대치 속에서 드러나는 끊어질 듯 이어지는 밝은 빛의 궤적은 본인이 ‘가야 할 삶의 길’을 예시하는 느낌을 주면서 안정된 마음을 유발하는 인자로서 다가 왔다. 이를 근거로 다중(多衆)적구조의 구겨진 형상의 이미지는 빛과 어두움의 극한 대조 속에서 이루어지는 본인의 작품을 통해 ‘삶의 불안감’을 자신의 ‘주체적인 선택에 의한 삶의 확신’으로 전환 시키는 주술적 측면의 치유적의미를 지니고 있다. 이러한 작품형성의 과정을 ‘프로스트’의 ‘가지 않은 길’을 인용하여 ‘불안한 인생의 길’에 대한 ‘선택적 의미’와 ‘주체적 선택의 인생의 길’에 대하여 논하고, 본인 작업의 주 조형 요소인 ‘빛과 단색조의 톤(tone)’이 내포하고 있는 시각적 표현성을 근거로, ‘확신과 희망’으로 상징되는 빛의 의미와 단색조의 변주를 통한 계시적 성향의 묵시적 공간으로 해석한 조형적 관점을 논하였다. 그리고 작품분석을 통해서 작품내용과 조형화 과정을 구체적으로 서술 하였다. |This thesis an analysis of the contents and formative expressions of Light of Vision, a work selected for an exhibition 2017 for this author’s master’s degree. It is an inescapable reality that human beings must choose their own paths and lead their lives accordingly. Personally, I am in a constant state of mental anxiety about making decisions related to paths I am taking and those I will need to take in the future. This anxiety is rooted in a certain emotional disturbance resulting from an unexpected separation from my parents during childhood. As a remedy, I developed object attachment to blankets. This attachment is still with me to this day. With the highs and lows of their hills and the trajectory of their folds, blankets bear some resemblance to the fickle journey of life. Further, the tenuous yet continuous path of bright light that manifests itself in the stark contrast of light and dark seems to embody the path of life to take, eliciting serenity in the beholder. In this context, this author’s piece of art contains curative meaning in the magical aspect, as it transforms the anxieties of life into conviction in life led by independent decisions, through a multilayered series of crumpled images playing off the stark contrast of light and dark. As an allusion to Robert Frost’s The Road Not Taken, the creative process of this piece discusses the selective meaning of the uneasy path of life and the independent decisions of the path of life. Moreover, based on visual expression embodying the main formative elements of the piece, light and monotone, this work also discusses a formative perspective. This perspective interprets the meaning of light as a representation of conviction and hope, and the variations of monotone as a revelatory space.
