비대한 인체 표현에 관한 연구

Abstract

아름다움을 추구하는 것은 인간의 본능이며 인간은 그 아름다움을 다양한 방법으로 표현하려 하였다. 그 중 인체의 아름다움은 고대시대부터 지금까지 예술 활동의 주된 소재로 선택되어 왔으며 아름다움의 기준 또한 시대적 미의식에 따라 끊임없이 변화해 가고 있다. 구석기 시대의 아름다움은 출산과 풍요의 상징을 지닌 비대한 몸짓을 한 빌렌도르프의 비너스인 반면에 19세기 초에는 관능미와 우아한 몸매를 지닌 밀로의 비너스가 아름다움의 기준이었다. 그렇다면 지금 현대의 미의 기준에 부합한 비너스는 어떤 모습일까 생각해보았다. 현대의 비너스는 서울 한복판 거리를 걷거나 텔레비전을 보고 있으면 누구나 쉽게 접할 수 있다. 하지만 너무나 비슷한 콧대, 비슷한 이마와 볼, 비슷한 눈, 비슷한 몸매의 사람들을 대면하게 된다. 이런 현상들을 접하면서 정형화되어 가는 미의 기준에 있어서 진정한 미의 본질이 무엇인가를 생각해보았고, 과연 아름다움이란 무엇이며 그 기준은 누가 만들어가는 가를 고민하는 나 자신을 작품을 통해 표현하였다. 본 논문에서 제시되는 작업으로 고정화된 미의식에 대한 새로운 인식을 도모하고자 하였으며, 그 방법으로 터부시되고 무시되는 비대한 여성인체라는 대상을 바탕으로 작업하였다. 본인의 시각에서 해석된 새로운 형상물로서 본질적인 미의 진정한 가치가 무엇 인가에 대한 의문을 제시하고, 미의 본질에 대한 개인적 통찰을 본인의 작품을 통해 재해석하여 표현하고자 하였다. 그리고 본인이 여성이기에 외적인 아름다움에 민감한 여성이라는 의식과 함께 출발한다. 본 논문은 2010년 전시된 본인의 작품을 통하여 내용과 형식을 살펴본다. 1장 서론에서는 본인 작품에 대한 연구목적과 연구방법에 대하여 제시하였으며 2장 본론에서는 작업의 배경과 작업 전개로 본인작품의 조형화 특성과 제작의도를 연구 분석하였다. 3장 결론에서는 본 논문의 연구를 종합하여 전시 ‘비대한 꿈’전이 갖는 의미를 정리하고 앞으로 연구자의 작업 과제를 제언한다.

|It has been a human instinct to pursue beauty, and humans have tried to express such beauty in various manners. Among others, the beauty of the human body has been selected as a main motif of artistic activities ranging from the ancient times to date, and the criteria of beauty is also ceaselessly changing according to the aesthetic awareness of each era. The Beauty of the Old Stone Age was represented in Venus of Wilendorf, in which the gesture looked obese symbolizing childbirth and opulence, whereas Venus by Milo, which has voluptuous beauty and a graceful body shape matched the criteria of beauty during the early 19th century. Then, how would Venus, which matches the current criteria of beauty, appear now? Today’s Venus can be easily encountered by anyone while walking down the middle of the street in Seoul or watching TV. However, we encounter people with very similar noses, similar foreheads and cheeks, similar eyes, and similar body shapes. While experiencing such a phenomenon, I came to think about what the true nature of beauty would be and what would be included the criteria of beauty, which have been typified; in addition, I expressed myself through works as a person who has thought seriously about what on earth beauty might be, and who has created such criteria. I tried to pursue a new perception about a fixed aesthetic awareness with proposed works in this paper, and created works on the basis of an object, namely the obese female human body, which has been made taboo and neglected. I posed a question as to what the true value of intrinsic beauty would be as new formative objects that are interpreted from my perspective, and attempted to express a personal insight into the nature of beauty through the reinterpretation of my works. Also, as I am a woman, this attempt stemmed from an awareness of being a woman and being sensitive to external beauty. This paper looks into the contents and forms of my works exhibited in 2010. The introduction in Chapter 1 proposed the research purpose and research methods concerning my works. The main body in Chapter 2 researched and analyzed the formative characteristics of and intention to create my works based on the background of the job and the proceeding of the job. The conclusion in Chapter 3 summarizes the meaning of the exhibition ‘Obese Dream’ through the summarization of the research of this paper, and proposes the forthcoming tasks of the researcher’s work.
