바로크 영국교회 성악음악에 관한 연구

Abstract

17세기부터 18세기 중반까지 바로크 시대음악은 르네상스 시대와 비교하 여 양식과 형식면에서 끊임없는 발전이 이루어졌으며 여러 면에서 다른 시 대의 음악과 구별할 수 있는 특성이 나타났다. 바로크 시대에는 새로운 다악장 형식이 발달하였으며 오페라, 칸타타, 오라 토리오 등의 성악곡과 소나타, 모음곡, 협주곡 등의 기악곡이 각기 독립적 특성을 띄고 발전하였다. 또한 나라별로의 특징이 나타났으며 그 중 영국 교회음악은 영국 국교인 성공회를 기반으로 그 만의 음악이 형성되었다. 영국과 로마와의 종교 대립으로 종교가 분리되었고, 가톨릭과 분리가 되면 서 예배음악에도 자국어인 영어가 사용되기 시작했다. 이 과정에서 형성된 영국 교회음악이 서비스(Service), 앤섬(Anthem), 앵글리칸 찬트(Anglican chant)이다. 바로크 시대 영국음악을 대표하는 작곡가인 헨리 퍼셀(Henry Purcell, 1659-1695)은 다양한 장르의 곡들을 작곡하였다. 36살의 나이로 생을 마감 한 그는 짧은 생애임에도 불구하고 많은 작품을 남겼는데 특히 앤섬은 69편 을 작곡하였다. 그의 앤섬들은 영어로 된 가사의 의미를 음악으로 전달하기 위하여 여러 가지 방법을 사용하고 있는데 이 같은 일들은 영어가사에 대한 퍼셀의 작곡이 가장 뛰어나다는 평가를 듣게 하였다. 이에 본 논문에서는 퍼셀 앤섬 중 3곡을 분석하여 가사와 음악의 연관성을 어떻게 표현하였는지 를 밝혀보고자 하였다. 퍼셀의 앤섬을 분석한 결과를 요약해 보면 다음과 같다. 단어의 액센트와 노래의 액센트를 일치시키고 쉼표와 다이나믹, 멜리스마 등을 사용하여 가사를 정확하게 표현함으로써 노래하는 이들로 하여금 자신 이 강조하고자 하는 부분이 특별한 테크닉 없이도 표현될 수 있도록 하였 다. 그리고 본 논문에서 분석한 3곡 중 첫 번째 곡인 Now That The Sun Hath Veil'd His Light에서 오스티나토 베이스를 엄격하게 곡 전체에 사용 함으로써 노래의 분위기를 일정하게 유지시키고 당시 음악적 성향도 반영하 였다. 반주의 페달 포인트의 사용도 찾을 수 있다. 페달 포인트의 사용은 노래 의 분위기를 한층 더 살려주며 바로크 시대 오르간 사용이 성행하였음을 보여주고 있다. 이와 같이 퍼셀은 다양한 언어 표현의 선두적 역할을 하였고 그의 앤섬들 은 영국을 대표하는 가장 아름답게 언어를 표현하는 노래가 되었다.|From the 17th century to the mid-18th century, Baroque music was developed continuously in style and form compared to Renaissance music, resulting in distinctive characteristics different from music of other periods in various aspects. In Baroque period, new multi-movement form emerged. Vocal works such as opera, cantata, and oratorio and instrumental works such as sonata, suite, and concerto appeared with their own independent characteristics. Furthermore, musical characteristics of each country showed up. Among them, England had established their own English church music based on the Anglican Church, national religion of England. Religion was separated by religious conflict between England and Rome. English, a native language, began to be used in service music as England was separated from the Catholic Church. English church music such as Service, Anthem, and Anglican chant were established during this period. Henry Purcell (1659-1696), a representative composer of English music during Baroque period, composed various genres of music. He died with age of 36 and left a lot of works in spite of his short lifetime, especially 69 pieces of anthem. His anthem works are using a lot of techniques to transfer meaning of English words in music, and that is why Purcell's compositions are complimented best for English words. Therefore, this thesis analyses 3 pieces of Purcell's anthem work to show how he expressed close relationship between the words and the music. Analysis results of Purcell's anthems are summarized as follows; First, accent of the words is matched with accent of the music, and the words are expressed accurately with rest, dynamic, and melisma. Therefore, special technique is not necessary for singer to emphasis important part of the music. Second, ostinato base is used. It is strictly used all over "Now That The Sun Hath Veil'd His Light", the first work among three works analyzed in this thesis, to maintain atmosphere of music and to apply musical characteristics of its period. Third, pedal point is used in accompaniment. Pedal point strengthens atmosphere of the music and shows a popular use of organ during Baroque period. As pointed out above, Purcell led various expressions of the words, and his anthem, had become representative works which express English words most beautifully in England.
