바디 페인팅에 관한 연구

Abstract

최근에 와서 바디 페인팅은 그 예술적 역량이 패션쇼, 연극, 퍼포먼스, 광고 등 다양한 분야와 접목을 통해 그 영역이 점차 확대되어 가고 있으며, 이와 관련한 사회적 인식과 관심이 증가되고 있는 상황이다. 그러나 바디 페인팅과 관련하여 명확한 장르 규정이 되어 있지 않고, 여러 분야에서 부수적 형태로 표현되어 그 독립적인 예술 가치를 제대로 인정받지 못하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 바디 페인팅의 예술적 가치와 독립 장르로서의 영역을 구축 할 수 있겠는가를 선행 연구를 통해 이론적으로 고찰해보고, 실제로 바디 페인팅을 예술적으로 승화시킨 작가이면서 모델인 베르슈카(Veruschka) 작품을 분석하였고, 이를 토대로 바디 페인팅 작품을 제작해 보았다. 바디 아트는 인간의 몸을 어떤 일정한 재료와 양식, 기교 등을 사용하여 미를 창조하고 표현하는 조형예술의 한 분야로, 그 기원은 인류의 발생과 더불어 나타났지만, 20세기 초반 다다이즘과 개념미술에 의해 본격화되고, 포스트모던이즘의 영향으로 예술의 영역이 확대되었고, 기존에 금기시되었던 분야가 새롭게 창조되고 표현됨으로써 각광 받기 시작하였다. 인간의 신체는 이러한 예술의 시작점이었고, 그와 관련하여 ‘퍼포먼스’, ‘신체미술’ 등이 발달하였고, 바디 페인팅도 이들의 연장선상에서 발달하였다. 예술의 한 분야로서 미술의 한 장르로 인정받고 있는 퍼포먼스에서 바디 페인팅은 가장 중요한 요소이다. 퍼포먼스의 여러 요소인 음악, 조명, 모델, 시나리오, 무대 중 하나였던 바디 페인팅은 퍼포먼스의 완성도를 높여주고, 의미를 효과적으로 전달해주는 기법에서 출발하였지만, 그 과정에서 하나의 독립적 예술적 장르로의 발전을 도모할 수 있는 바탕이 되었다. 인간의 신체를 표현의 주제로 삼았던 신체미술도 바디 페인팅 발전에 많은 영향을 미쳤다. 일반적으로 자신의 신체를 직접 소재로 삼아 예술 행위를 하는 신체미술은 다양한 형식과 주제를 가지고 발전되어왔고, 이러한 실험 정신은 바디 페인팅의 표현의 무제한성을 제시하였다. 바디 페인팅은 회화적 표현기법, 그래픽적 표현기법, UV 발광 물감과 블랙라이트 표현기법, 에어 브러쉬를 이용한 표현기법, 오브제를 이용한 표현기법 등 다양한 방법들을 사용하여 다양한 모티브의 표현을 할 수 있어서 폭넓은 작품 활동이 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 위의 다양한 방법들을 이용하여 다양하고 창조적인 작품을 제작하였고, 이러한 과정에서 세계적인 바디 페인팅 작가이면서 모델이었던 베르슈카(Veruschka) 작품을 분석하고 연구하였다. 이러한 노력의 결실이 바디 페인팅의 예술성을 높이고 종이나 캔버스가 아닌 인체를 표현 장소로 정함으로서 흥미와 관심을 유발시켜 예술적인 창작활동에 무한한 발전가능성을 제시하고자 하였다. 기술적 발전은 새로운 예술 영역을 창조하고, 새로운 기술은 창의적 사고를 자극한다. 이러한 측면들을 볼 때 바디 페인팅은 작가의 상징적 개념을 창조적인 형식과 내용을 통해 구체적으로 인체에 표현하는 응용예술분야로서의 발전 가능성을 지니며, 다양한 예술사조와의 결합으로 표현에 있어서도 새로운 시도의 영역을 높일 수 있다고 보겠다. 더불어 예술로서의 발전과 창작 영역 또한 확대될 것으로 보며, 바디 페인팅이 하나의 독립적인 장르로서의 확고한 위치를 구축되어지기를 기대한다. | Recently, Body Painting has expanded its own field through its artistic growth and by grafting fashion shows, plays, performances, advertisements, etc on itself. Also, it is being paid more and more social attention to recently. However, its genre hasn't been regulated yet and for many, it is expressed as a peripheral form, not admitted its own particular art. In these conditions, this thesis focused on two things. Firstly theoretical consideration from research about the possibility of establishing the artistic value of Body Painting and making a specific genre. Secondly analysing the production of Body Painting and the work of Veruschka, an artist and model who promoted Body Painting as a field of art. Body Art is one of the formative arts that creates and expresses the beauty of the human body by using certain materials, styles, techniques, etc. It has its origin in the emergence of the human race but in the early 20th century it became an art form through Dadaism and Conceptional arts. It also expanded its artistic domain from post-modernism and has been highlighted as a newly accepted field that was once ignored. Western arts started with the human body, and thus 'Performance', and 'Body Art' developed, from this, 'Body Painting' has advanced. In 'Performance Art', Body Painting has become the most important element. Body Painting which is part of 'Performance Art' as other elements; music, lighting, model, scenario, and stage are improved and perfected the 'Performance Art'. Although it has originated from the technique which transmits meaning, the process of 'Body Art' has made its base to develop as a particular artistic genre. 'Body Art' that uses the subject of a human body, has also affected the development of Body Painting. Generally, 'Body Art' in which people do art activities by using their own body as a material has developed with different styles and subjects and this experimentalism led to the limitlessness of Body Painting as an expression. Body Painting is able to make various art works which express different motives by using a lot of methods such as a mode of expression of picture, graphic magazine, UV luminescent color and black light, air brush, and an object. In this thesis, I've made a diverse and creative work examining these various methods. I analyzed and studied Veruschka's works, who was one of the worlds most body painting artist and model. The aim of thesis is to raise the artistic quality of Body Painting and arouse the interest and attention of people. This was achieved by choosing the human body as a place for expression, and not paper or the canvas, thus indicating that there are infinite possibilities of future growth. Advancing techniques have made a new field of art and new techniques stimulate originality. Considering all of these aspects, Body Painting has a possibility of growth as an applied art, which expresses the artists' symbolic concept concretely on the body with unique styles and substances. Also, Body Painting will be more likely to make a new attempt at its expression through combination between different artistic ideas. Moreover, Body Painting will expand and grow being created as an art form. I expect that Body Painting will establish a stable position as a particular field of art genre.
