민화를 응용한 도제 도어핸들(Door Handle)디자인 연구

Abstract

글로벌(Global)시대라 불리는 현대사회 속에서 우리는 새롭고 다양한 문화를 빠르고 손쉽게 접할 수 있게 되었다. 그러나 넘쳐나는 각양각색(各樣各色)의 문화들은 정서적 혼란과 각박(刻薄)함을 불러일으켰고, 이는 한국문화의 정체성이 점점 상실되어 가는 안타까운 현실로 이어졌다. 따라서, 한국문화의 가치와 미(美)의식의 새로운 발전을 도모할 수 있는 전통의 재인식은 매우 중요한 요소라 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 전통의 재발견에 주목하여 한국의 대표적인 그림인 '민화(民畵)‘의 이미지를 적용하여 도제 도어핸들(Door Handle)을 제작하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 민화의 역사성과 상징적인 의미를 분석하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 도어핸들에 한국의 미를 조형적으로 구성하는 디자인의 요소를 도출하였다. 또한 출입문에 부착되어 가장 먼저 방문자를 맞이하는 도어핸들로서의 역할을 통해 누구나 용이하고 친근하게 한국전통의 미를 느낄 수 있게 하고자 하였다. 상징적 표현이 두드러지는 민화의 특성 가운데 과거 한국인의 사상과 해학 등이 자유롭게 표현된 이미지를 적용하여 한국적 정서와 멋을 표현하고자 하였다. 이에 도어핸들에 쓰인 도판은 부조(浮彫)의 제작방법을 이용하여 이미지의 시각적 효과를 높여주었고, 민화에 나타나는 다채로운 색은 하회(下繪)장식기법으로 표현하여 더욱 선명한 이미지를 드러내고자 하였다. 이를 바탕으로 민화의 이미지를 담은 도제 도어핸들의 새로운 디자인을 가능케 하였으며, 공간에 들어서는 출입자가 도어핸들을 통해 전통의 상징을 원활히 인식할 수 있도록 기회를 마련하고자 하였다. 더불어 한국 도자기의 새로운 기능에 대한 가능성을 보여주고자 하였다.|In modern society of global area, people may have access to new and diverse cultures easily and quickly. Yet, bountiful and multifarious cultures emerged emotional chaos and heartlessness, and this inclination unfortunately and gradually diminished the identity of Korean culture. Therefore, the new understanding of tradition to promote the value of Korean culture and new development of aesthetic aspect are very significant factors. This study is to accentuate the new understanding of tradition to apply the image of “Folk Painting”, or the representative painting of Korea, in design of ceramic door handle. For this, historicity and symbolic definition of folk painting were analyzed, and based on these, the design factors formatively consisting the Korean beauty on a door handle were extracted. Furthermore, through the role of being attached at a door to greet a visitor before anyone else, a door handle was intended to reveal the beauty of Korean tradition to everyone conveniently and friendly. Among the characteristics of strong symbolic expressions by folk paintings, the image freely expressing ideologies and humor of the Koreans in the past was applied to indicate Korean sentiments and taste. The ceramic plate used for a door handle applied the method of relievo to improve visual effect, and various colors in folk painting were expressed with the method of underglaze painting to show more vivid image. Based on these, a new design of ceramic door handle with the image of folk painting was enabled, and it was intended to acknowledge the symbol of tradition clearly to a door handle user. Furthermore, it was to show the possibility of new function by Korean ceramics.
