동성애에 관한 고등학교 사회과교사의 인식조사

Abstract
본 연구의 목적은 사회과 현직교사가 성적소수자로서의 동성애에 가지는 태도를 탐색하는 것이다. 이러한 연구를 통해 성적소수자에 관한 현장 교사의 인식과 태도를 객관적으로 파악하고, 더 나아가 사회적 소수자에 관한 편견의 감소와 인권 교육의 방안을 마련하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 교사교육과 다문화 교실수업의 기초 자료를 제공하고자 했다. 이를 위해 먼저 사회과 교사가 동성애에 대해서 가지는 태도는 주요 변인별로 어떠한 특징을 보이는가에 대해서 알아보았다. 다음으로 사회교과의 목표에 대한 관점에 따라 사회과 교사들의 동성애에 대한 인식 및 태도의 정도에 차이가 있는지에 대해서 알아보았다. 이를 위해 국‧공립 학교의 사회과 교사 156명과 사립 학교의 사회과 교사 173명, 총 329명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고, PASW 18.0을 활용하여 통계분석을 하였다.

주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.

1. 사회과 교사가 동성애에 대해서 가지는 태도는 주요 변인별로 다양한 특징을 보이고 있다. 구체적으로 성별, 연령, 학교 유형, 교직 경력, 동성애자 접촉 경험 유무에 따라 사회과 교사들의 동성애에 대한 인식 및 태도의 정도에 차이가 나타났다. 특히 여교사일수록, 연령이 낮을수록, 교직경력이 적을수록, 국‧공립학교 일수록 동성애에 대하여 관용적 태도를 보였다. 그리고 동성애자의 지인이 있는 경우가 그렇지 않은 경우보다 동성애에 대해 상대적으로 긍정적인 태도를 보였다.

2. 사회교과의 목표에 대한 관점에 따라 사회과 교사들의 동성애에 대한 인식 및 태도에 차이를 보이고 있다. 구체적으로 다섯 가지의 관점(시민성 전달모형, 사회과학 모형, 반성적 탐구 모형, 사회비판 모형, 개인 발달 모형)중에서 사회비판모형을 선호하는 교사가 개인 발달 모형을 선호하는 교사보다 허용적이고 긍정적인 동성애 태도를 보이고 있다.
