도자 유물의 부착장식을 모티브로 한 백자등잔 제작연구

Abstract

박물관에 전시된 유물은 과거에는 실생활에 유용하게 쓰이는 사물이었으나, 현대에는 과학의 발전과 생활양식의 변화로 역사적 가치가 높은 미적 탐구의 대상으로 변모하였다. 옛 도자 유물에 나타나는 부착장식을 미적 대상으로 삼아, 역사 속 유물로 기억된 백자등잔을 현대 생활공간에 맞도록 용도와 활용가치 면에서 새롭게 제작하고자 하였다. 우리의 역사 속 오랜 기간 어둠을 밝히는 조명기구로 사용되었던 등잔(燈盞)은 현대에 이르러 불빛이 주는 옛 정취와 더불어 정서적 안정감을 느끼게 하는 사색의 도구, 혹은 실내공간을 돋보이게 하는 리빙소품으로 새롭게 주목받고 있다. 등잔은 오랜 세월 사용되었음에도 석유를 원료로 하는 기존의 호형(壺形)등잔에서 유형이나 형태적 변화는 거의 없으며, 연료의 개선과 보조 등기구 사용을 통해 활용도를 높여온 것으로 보인다. 본 연구에서는 옛 백자등잔이 가진 원형(原型; 기본형)은 유지하되 현대의 실내공간에서 사용하기 불편한 구조적 형태를 보완하고, 옛 도자 유물의 기능적 부착장식인 고리장식과 양이(兩珥)장식을 조형 요소로 접목하여 현대에 변화된 등잔의 역할에 적합한 백자등잔을 제작하고자 한다. 본론에서는 전통등잔의 시대별 유형과 사용된 연료에 따른 형태적 변화를 살펴보았으며, 등잔과 함께 사용된 보조 등기구를 용도별로 분류하였다. 이를 토대로 기존 호형등잔의 구조적 불편함과 실내공간에서 등잔을 안전하게 사용하기 위한 3가지 개선 방향을 도출하여 등잔의 기능적 형태연구를 시도하였다. 등잔의 장식으로는 시대별 고리형태의 부착장식이 나타나는 유물의 과거 사용방식과 조선시대의 양이잔 손잡이의 조형적 특징을 고찰하여 등잔에 심미적 효과를 높이는 장식 요소로 적용하였다. 백자등잔의 제작방법으로는 등잔의 형태연구를 시도함에 있어 시작품의 다양한 형태적 변용에 유리하고, 등잔과 심지꽂이의 유격을 정밀하게 맞추기 적합한 물레성형 기법을 이용하였다. 부착장식의 경우 고리장식과 양이장식의 조형적 특성에 적합하도록 판 성형 기법과 소형 압출기를 활용하여 다양한 부착장식의 형태를 표현하였다. 위와 같은 방법으로 제작된 백자등잔을 중심으로 현대인이 여가생활에서 즐겨 사용하는 소품들과의 세트 구성을 통해 전통등잔의 새로운 사용방식과 현대적 활용가치를 제시하고자 한다.|Artifacts displayed in museums were useful real-life objects in a prior era, but in the present, lifestyle changes and developments in science have caused them to become objects of aesthetic inquiry which only carry historical meaning. Using functional decorative attachments to ceramic relics as aesthetic objects, this study aimed to reproduce white ceramic lamps, which are remembered in terms of their use and value as historical relics, and make them suitable for modern living spaces. Historically, oil lamps have long been used for illumination, but in modern times, they are emerging as “thinking tools” that provide a feeling of emotional stability along with the effects created by the light or decorations that complement the interior. Although lamps have been used for a long time, almost no change has been made in their design from the original arc-shaped petroleum lamps, while their use has increased in response to changes in fuel or demand for accessories. The present study aimed to produce a white ceramic lamp that was suitable in different roles in the present age by modifying their structure, which was inconvenient for use in modern indoor spaces, and attaching decorative rings and handles, which were functional and decorative attachments to ceramic relics, as modeling elements. The present study investigated the functional form of traditional lamps by examining their characteristics by era and types by fuel used, classifying accessory lamps by use, and deriving three improvements to address the structural inconveniences and ensure the safe use of the original arc-shaped lamps in indoor spaces. With regard to lamp decoration, the use of relics with ring-shaped decorative attachments by era and the modeling characteristics of the handles of double-handled cups from the Joseon Dynasty were investigated, and the results were used to create decorative elements that increased the aesthetic effect of the lamps. Jiggering, which is advantageous when performing various morphological alterations in the investigation of the functional form of lamps and suitable for accurately adjusting the gap between the lamp and the wick holder, was used to produce white ceramic lamps. For the decorative attachments, a slab building technique and a shaping technique using a small extruder that were appropriate for shaping decorative rings and double-handled decorations were used to represent the shapes of various decorative attachments. Based on the white ceramic lamps described above, the present study attempted to present new ways of using traditional lamps in a modern setting by creating sets that are appropriate for contemporary leisure activities.
