다문화사회의 중등미술교육에 관한 연구

Abstract

오늘날 현대 사회는 교통수단 및 정보 통신 기술의 발달로 인해 상호 의존성과 협력의 필요성이 증가하여 빠르게 변화하고 세계화되어 글로벌 지구촌 문화를 만들어 내고 있다. 최근 우리나라의 사회현상을 보면 하루가 다르게 늘어나는 외국인들로 인해 한국 사회를 더 이상 ‘단일민족’ 사회가 아닌 다양한 인종과 민족, 그리고 문화가 혼재하는 다문화 사회로 변화시키기에 이르렀다. 이러한 우리 사회의 급변하는 상황과 흐름은 한국 사회 내에 다문화교육에 대한 관심과 논의를 증가시키고 있다. 이에 따라 국가 교육과정의 다문화교육과 관련된 연구 등 학문적 노력이 점차 증가하고 있다. 우리나라에서는 이러한 사회적 노력의 일원으로 교육정책을 통해 다문화 가정 학생들의 적응을 돕고 일반 학생들도 이들과 더불어 서로를 존중하며 살아갈 수 있도록 지원하고 있다. 또한 효과적인 다문화 이해를 위한 다문화교육의 한 방법으로 미술교육은 그 중요성이 점차 커지고 있다. 그러나 학교 환경과 교수·학습 지원이 제대로 이루어지지 못하고 있다. 특히 초등학교에 비해 중‧고등학교에서의 다문화미술교육은 미비한 실정이다. 문화적 다양성을 반영한 전통미술문화를 통한 다문화교육은 학생들에게 다양한 미술 문화에 대한 지식과 다른 문화적 배경을 가진 인간에 대한 이해를 돕게 한다. 이러한 다문화미술교육은 미술 문화 비교 체험은 물론 문화적 비주류 학생들에게 자신감을 가지게 한다. 또한, 문화적 정체성을 심어주어 학생들로 하여금 다문화적인 시각을 넓혀 줄 수 있다. 이러한 이유로 전통미술문화를 통한 다문화미술교육은 문화 정체성을 유지하는 자국의 문화와 다른 문화와의 차이를 이해하고 그 가치를 인식하여 잘 수용할 수 있도록 도와야 한다. 이에 본 연구는 지금의 시대적 요구와 맥락에 따른 우리나라 다문화미술교육에 대한 고찰을 위해 다문화미술교육의 특징과 선행연구를 알아보고 다문화교육을 전제한 전통미술문화 교육의 국내‧외국의 사례들을 통해 우리나라 다문화미술교육의 문제점을 인식하여 내‧외국인 모두가 함께 소통 되며 특히 가치관과 정체성이 형성되는 시기인 중학교 학생들에게 전통문화의 중요성을 인식시키고 전통 미의식을 고취 시키고자 다문화미술교육의 교수‧학습 지도안을 제시하여 방향성과 대안을 모색 하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 특히 전통미술문화유산을 통한 다문화 미술교육의 교수‧학습 방안을 모색하고 대안을 제시하고자 한다. 이러한 연구의 결과로 학생들이 자국의 전통미술문화에 대해 자긍심을 갖고 급변하는 문화 속에서도 정체성을 정립하여 새로운 전통을 창조 하는데 밑거름이 되기를 바란다.| In today’s modern society, the need for co-independency and cooperation is increasing due to the development of transportation, information and communication technology which is changing rapidly and globalizing, creating a global village culture.

When we look at society today in Korea, it is no longer a homogeneous society due to a daily influx of foreigners, but has changed into a multicultural society with diverse races, ethnicities and cultures. Such a rapidly changing situation and trends within Korean society are vitalizing the interest in and discussion of multicultural education within Korea. Accordingly, academic endeavors -- including a study on multicultural education -- in the national educational curriculum are gradually increasing.

As a part of such social efforts, the Korean government is carrying out an educational policy that supports students from multicultural families and encourages other students to respect and get along with them. One way for multicultural education methods to effectively help Koreans understand the country’s new diversity, the importance of art education is paramount. However, in reality the school environment, teaching and learning support are not well suited for multicultural education. Multicultural art education in middle and high school is especially inadequate compared to elementary school.

Multicultural education through traditional art heritage that reflects cultural diversity helps students acquire knowledge of various art cultures and understand humans from different cultural backgrounds. Such a multicultural art education not only offers students the comparative experience of art and culture but also gives confidence to students who are cultural newcomers. This education plants cultural identities in students so that they can expand their multicultural views. For these reasons multicultural art education through traditional art heritage should help students understand the difference between other cultures and their own cultures that maintain their cultural identity, and also recognize the value of both cultures and accept them without conflict.

In response to these needs, the goals of this study are: to look into the characteristics of multicultural art education and case studies in order to study the Korean multicultural art education according to today’s periodic demands and context and to recognize the problems of Korean multicultural art education by looking into domestic and foreign cases of traditional art culture education based on multicultural education so that Koreans and foreigners can communicate with each other while teaching the importance of traditional culture to middle school students who are forming their own values and identity and instill in them traditional aesthetic consciousness and ultimately suggest a teaching and learning plan for multicultural art education through traditional art heritage in order to show the direction of art education and the alternative plan. This study will especially endeavor to explore a teaching and learning plan of multicultural art education through traditional art heritage and suggest an alternative plan.

As a result of this study, I hope that students become proud of their traditional art heritage, set their own identity in this rapidly changing culture, and become the foundation for creating a new culture.
