XML기반 온라인 수업관리 System

Abstract

오늘날, XML을 이용한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있으며, 이러한 연구들 중에서 교육에 관련된 연구는 최근 몇 년 동안 많이 이루어졌다. 교육에 관련된 연구들 대부분이 아직은 HTML을 단순히 XML로 대체해서 교육 컨텐츠를 웹에서 제공하는 수준이거나 또는 XML을 이용하여 교육시스템을 구현하더라도 XML Schema보다는 DTD를 그리고, 관계형 데이터베이스를 많이 이용하고 있다. 그러나, 기존 DBMS기반을 이용해 XML 데이터를 저장하면 XML문서를 관계형 모델 혹은 객체지향 모델로 변환하여 시스템에 저장해야 하므로 impedence mismatch문제가 있고, 여러 테이블에 동일한 데이터가 중복될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 교수가 강좌를 수강하는 학생에게 강좌에 대한 강의자료, 과제물, 시험 등에 대한 정보를 제공하고, 학생은 제공되는 정보를 통해 강좌에 대한 정보도 얻고, 과제물도 제출하고, 시험도 볼 수 있다. 이런 과정을 통해 교수와 학생이 서로 강좌에 대한 상호작용을 한다. 이와 같은 교육시스템에 관련된 문서를 효과적으로 통합 관리, 공유, 검색 할 수 있도록 XML과 XML Schema 그리고, XML 문서 관리의 효율성을 높이기 위해 XML 전용 데이터베이스인 eXcelon을 이용하여 XML기반 온라인 수업관리 System을 구현하였다.|Numerous research projects which are related to XML are being conducted actively. Specially, there were many research projects for the online education systems based on XML. Most of them simply replace HTML with XML DTD instead of XML Schema, and use general relational databases to store XML contents. But, when they store XML data by use of relational database, XML data should be converted to relation model schema. The conversion takes long time, and has impedance mismatch problem. Moreover data could be duplicated throughout the several tables. In this paper, our system operates as follows. Teachers provide students with the materials on lectures, homework’s and examinations. Students can get the information and take the examination through the system. To implement this system efficiently, we have chosen XML schema to represent the logical structure of XML contents and have used “eXcelon database” (XML Customized Database) to make it possible to organize, share and search more efficiently than general RDBMS does.
