Verismo Opera에 관한 연구

Abstract

문학에서부터 시작된 리얼리즘(Realism)은 미(美)를 다룸에 있어 과장되고 미화된 소재를 가지고 있었던 낭만시대의 성향을 떠나 왜곡되고 가리어진 어두운 현실생활을 나타내고자 했던 새로운 사회운동이었다. 이 리얼리즘은 19세기 중엽에 이르러 미술 분야에 영향을 주었고 그 결과 미술에서는 사실주의와 인상주의를 탄생시켰으며, 19세기 말엽에는 음악에도 그 영향을 미쳐 베리즈모(Verismo) 오페라라는 새로운 장르를 탄생시켰다. 베리즈모 오페라는 마스카니(P. Mascagni)의 <카발레리아 루스티카나(Cavalleria rusticana)>가 1889년 출판사 손쬬뇨(Sonzogno)의 ‘1막 오페라 공모’에 입상하면서부터 구체적으로 나타났으며 이는 죠르다노(U, Giordano), 레온카발로(R. Leoncavallo), 푸치니(G. Puccini) 등 당시 젊은 동료 작곡가들에게 새로운 도전을 주었다. 그 중에서도 레온카발로의 <팔리아치(I Pagliacci)>는 소재의 선택, 음악적 형식, 애욕에 의한 범죄 등 마스카니의 작품성향에 완전히 접근한 작품으로 평가되어진다. 베리즈모 오페라를 대표하는 마스카니의 <카발레리아 루스티카나>와 레온카발로의 <팔리아치>는 질투, 복수로 인한 살인 사건이라는 공통 주제를 다뤘으며, 이들 작품 내부에서는 사실주의적 요소들을 쉽게 발견할 수 있다. 이 작품들은 낭만주의 오페라가 사용한 미화된 문학적 혹은 무대적 가사를 사용하는 대신 극중 인물의 환경에 적합한 산문시를 사용했으며, 회화적인 낭송조의 노래와 절규하는 듯한 감탄사를 자주 사용했다. 또한, 오케스트라는 등장인물의 심리상태와 극적인 긴장감을 사실적으로 표현하기 위해 화려한 음향의 트레몰로 기법을 많이 사용했고, 박자, 리듬, 나타냄 말, 다이나믹 등에 변화를 주었다. 이러한 특성을 갖는 베리즈모 오페라는 종전의 낭만주의 오페라의 인공적이고 기교적인 형식을 탈피해 현장감 있는 오페라를 새롭게 선보임으로서 당대 오페라 작곡가들과 음악계에 큰 전환점을 가져다주었고, 낭만오페라에서 현대오페라를 연결시켜주는 가교역할을 하였다.|The Realism derived from the literature was a social movement to represent distorted and shadowed miserable real life and was different from the Romanticism the material of which expressed exaggerative and ideal arts. The Realism had an influence on the field of the fine arts in the middle of 19th century, consequently the Realism and Impressionism came into the world, and on the musical world, in the end of 19th century, which produced a new music genre, Verismo Opera. Verismo Opera had appeared specifically since Mascagni's <Cavalleria rusticana> won a prize of 'Invitation Public Contribution of Act 1 Opera' which served as an incentive to the young associates of that time such as Giordano, Leoncavallo, Puccini, and so on. Of these Verismo Opera, it was appreciated that Leoncavallo's <I Pagliacci> completely approached disposition of Mascagni's works through the material choice, musicial forms and theme in crime of love and lust. Mascagni's <Cavalleria rusticana> and Leoncavallo's <I Pagliacci> standing for Verismo Opera dealt with the co-theme of a murder case from envy and revenge in which the realistic factors are easily found. These performances employed the prose to be suitable for surroundings of characters on the stage, the colloquial style of reciting note and exclamation instead of the lyric of aesthetic literature or of the stage in Romantic Opera. Furthermore, the orchestra used tremolo method the magnificent sound in order to express the characters' mental state and dramatic strain and gave variety to time patterns, rhythms, indicative words and dynamics. With these distinctions, Verismo Opera not only turned the course of musical world and composers of that day by showing realistic scene freshly which eluded the previous Romantic Style-technicism and artificiality, but also was a bridge between Romantic Opera and Modern Opera as an important role.
