Samuel Barber의 Piano Sonata op.26에 대한 연구

Abstract

사무엘 바버(Samuel Barber , 1910-1981)는 고전적인 형식을 바탕으로 서정적인 선율을 현대적인 기법과 결합시킨 다양성을 가진 작곡가이다. 바버는 작춤 초기에 서정적이고 낭망적인 색채를 가지고 대중들이 쉽게 공감하는 음악을 작곡했지만 1939년 이후부터는 현대적 어법을 좀 더 결합하려는 노력을 하게 된다. 이러한 노력의 결과물인 피아노 소나타 Op.26은 1악장의 소나타 형식, 2악장의 론도, 3악장의 3부 형식, 4악장의 푸가와 같은 전통적인 구조를 바탕으로 서정적 선율선과 현대적 어법을 잘 결합한 작품이다. 그는 이 작품에서 반음계적인 진행의 선율과 화성으로 인해 모호해 질 수 있는 조성에 pedal tone dlsk 이나 반복음을 통해 조성감을 느낄수 잇도록 하였다. 또한 12음렬이 사용될 때에도 조성을 바탕으로 사용하였다. 이 밖에도 현대적인 어법중 하나인 진보적인 리듬과 "Blue note"를 통한 미국적 색채는 그의 소나타를 한층 더 빛나게 한다. 이 곡은 바버의 피아노 작품 중 가장 규모가 큰 곡으로 20세기 미국의 피아노 소나타를 대표하는 곡 중 하나이다. 본 논문은 20세기 초기의 미국의 음악 배경과 바버의 작곡기법, 소나타 작품 분석을 통하여 바버의 작품을 올바르게 이해하여 연주하는데 도움이 되고자 한다. |Samuel barber(1910-1981) is a composer who held diversity and united lyrical melody with modern techniques based on classical forms. In his early days, he composed mosic lyrically and romantically that the masses could respond to easily. Since 1939, however, he made more efforts to combine modern expression into his works. His piano Sonata Op.26, an outcome of the effort, combined lyrical melodies with modern expression based on traditional structure: the first movement is sonata form, the second is rondo form, the third is ternary form, and the fourth is fuga form. By offering pedal tone or replicate to tonality which might be vague because of chromatic melodies and chords, he made people feel a sense of tonality. Even in case that the twelve-tone row was used, besides, tonality was its basis. its progressive rythms, one of modern exprossion, and its American-style color through "Blue Note" make his sonata more distinguished as well. As the largest scale out of Barber's piano works, this is one of musical works representing American piano sonata. This thesis purpused to contribute to understanding and playing bnarber's works properly through analysis of American musical settings of the early 20th century, Barber's composing techniques, and sonata works.
