- 리하르트 슈트라우스(Richard Strauss, 1864-1949)는 볼프(Hugo Wolf, 1860-1903), 말러(Gustav Mahler, 1860-1911) 등과 함께 후기 낭만 시대를 대표하는 작곡가이다. 그는 바그너(Wilhelm Richard Wagner, 1813-1883)의 후계자로 색채적이고 대규모 편성의 관현악법, 비화성음의 불분명한 해결과 반음계적이고 불협화적인 진행에 의한 혁신적인 화성 등 바그너의 음악어법을 따르고 있다.
슈트라우스는 약 200여곡의 가곡을 작곡했는데, 그의 작품 활동에 있어서 가곡에 많은 애착을 가지고 있었지만 오페라 성공이후 오페라 작곡에 전념하여 12년 동안 가곡 작곡을 중단했다.
은 그 공백기를 깨고 다시 가곡 작곡을 시작한 1918년에 작곡된 곡이라는데 의의가 있다.
그의 초기 가곡은 주로 동시대 시인들의 시를 가사로 많이 사용하였지만, 후기 가곡에서는 셰익스피어(William Shakespeare, 1564-1616), 괴테(Johann Wolfgang von Geothe, 1749-1832 ), 횔더린(Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin, 1770-1843) 등 유명시인들의 시를 가사로 사용하기도 하였다.
은 셰익스피어의 희곡『햄릿』에 등장하는 오필리아의 대사 일부를 채택하여 가사로 썼는데, 그녀가 아버지의 죽음과 햄릿의 배신으로 인해 미쳐서 노래를 부르는 4막 5장의 부분이다.
본 논문 의 분석을 통해 『햄릿』에 등장하는 오필리아의 노래를 음악적으로 어떻게 표현했는지 알아보고, 각 곡마다 나타나는 슈트라우스만의 음악 어법을 연구하여 슈트라우스의 음악을 한층 깊게 이해할 수 있도록 도모하고자 한다.
|Richard Strauss(1864-1949) was an important Post-Romanticism composer as Wolf(Hugo Wolf, 1860-1903) and Mahler(Gustav Mahler, 1860-1911).
As a successor to Wagner, he followed the master's methods in grand-scale and emotional expression instrumentation, revolutionary harmony through unsolved non-harmonic notes, and process of chromatic scale with dissonant tones.
Strauss composed over 200 songs his most favorite parts, while he concentrated on making only operas for 12 years after succeeding in this field.
is meaningful because it was the very first one of his resuming on songs in 1918.
In his later songs he quoted famous poets' works like Shakespeare's, Goethe's, Hölderlin's, and so on, while he usually used his contemporary poets' for his early songs.
For , he used Ophelia's song in Act 4 scene 5 of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, which she sang after being insane because of her father's death and Hamlet's betrayal.
This study scrutinizes how Strauss described Ophelia's song, and help understanding about Strauss music by researching into his own song idioms.
