Francis Poulenc의 가곡 「Le Travail du Peintre」에 내재된 시와 미술의 결합 양상 연구

- 20세기 프랑스의 대표적인 작곡가 뿔렝끄(Francis Poulenc, 1899-1963)의 작품은 제 1차 세계 대전 이후 프랑스 음악계의 동향을 잘 나타내며, 그의 가곡들은 20세기 가장 훌륭한 가곡들로 평가된다.
뿔렝끄의 예술 가곡 중에서 비교적 후기 작품에 속하는「Le Travail du Peintre」(화가의 작업)는 시인 엘뤼아르(Paul ?luard, 1895-1952)의 동시대의 화가들을 대상으로 쓴 시들 가운데 7개의 시를 선정하여 작곡되었다. 이 작품은 예술 가곡의 특징인 시와 음악의 밀접한 관계에서 더 나아가 시에서 궁극적으로 다루고 있는 화가와 화가의 작품 세계에 대한 이미지가 음악으로 표현되는 등 문학과 미술 장르의 접목이 나타난다.
초현실주의 시인인 엘뤼아르의 시들은 상징과 은유의 모호함으로 해석이 분명하게 이루어지지 않는 어려움이 있다. 뿔렝끄는 이러한 초현실주의 시의 불분명한 해석을 음정, 음가, 악구, 화성 등의 음악의 언어를 사용하여 자신만의 음악성으로 명확하게 표현하였다. 시의 운율과 각운은 뿔렝끄가 선호했던 기도 양식을 따라 비교적 완만하고 일정한 음가와 리듬으로 변용되었고, 시어나 시구의 중요도는 박자와 음가, 음정에 의해 조절되었다.
뿔렝끄는 신고전주의 작곡가로서 전통적 기법에 근거한 조성과 화성에 의해 자신만의 색을 분명히 하였고, 지속음이나 페달의 사용으로 음악을 더욱 풍부하게 하였다. 또한, 7곡으로 이루어진 연가곡 구성은 뿔렝끄의 화가에 대한 선호도를 기준으로 하여 조성적인 구조에 의해 유기적인 연관성을 지니고 있고, 악곡의 종지에 대한 그의 계획은 구성적 통일감을 이루었다. 각 곡은 화가와 화가의 작품 특징, 연가곡 구성에 의한 작곡가의 필요에 따라 템포와 어조, 곡의 분위기가 정해졌다.
본 논문은 가사와 음악에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 한 최상의 연주를 위해 당시의 시대적 상황에 따른 각 예술 분야의 사조, 시인과 작곡가에 관한 배경, 화가의 작품 특징에 대해 살펴보고, 이를 바탕으로 시의 분석과 시의 가사 전환 방식, 음악에 표현된 회화의 적용 방법을 연구하였다. 또한, 음악 분석을 통해 이 작품이 연가곡으로써 지니는 특징을 고찰하여 보았다.
|Francis Poulenc is representative composer of France in 20th century and his pieces represent the musical world of France after the First World War, and his songs were wonderful in 20th century.
「Le Travail du Peintre」(Work of painter) is late work of Poulenc, This piece was composed by seven poems and poet Eluard wrote these poems with focusing painters. This piece expressed a close relationship between poem and music in the peculiarity of art songs, and furthermore it was expressed as musical images of painters and world of painters' works. Therefore, this piece shows graft with literature and art.
Paul ?luard was surrealistic poet and he dedicated his painters to other poets, and Poulenc borrowed contents of these poems for this piece, but surrealistic poems showed ambiguous symbol and metaphor, but Poulenc used tune, phonetic value, phrase, harmony and overcame difficulty of ambiguous symbol and metaphor and difficulty of interpretation of poems. Rhythm and rhyme are shown with gradual and constant phonetic value and rhythm, and poetic dictions and lines were related to beat, phonetic value, tune.
Poulenc was neoclassical composer, above all, he made tonality and harmony which were based on traditional style, and he used sustain sound and pedal, therefore, his musics were impressive. Also, this piece was composed with seven musics and Poulenc shows organic connection about painters by structure of tonality. And Poulenc made fine and this fine is really harmonious. Each music shows tempo, sense, atmosphere differently by Poulenc.
We need to check trend of art, background about poets and composers at that time, feature of works of painters at that time, and so on, and we need to consider analysis of poems, way for switch of word of poems, how to use paintings for music, and feature as song cycle through analysis of music.
