15세기 朝鮮人의 天下觀

Abstract

15세기의 조선은 고려로부터 이어져온 다양한 문화적 토양에서 개국하였다. 그러나 주자 성리학을 지배이념으로 삼았던 조선은 세대가 이어져감에 따라 점차 이러한 다양성을 배제하고 오로지 유교를 중심으로 한 왕조체제 형성에 힘쓰기 시작했다. 이는 주자 성리학이 조선 사회에 안착하게 되는 16세기부터 성리학적 사상체계에 기반 한 세계인식과 세계관이 나타나게 된 원인이었다. 이 때문에 과거 15세기 조선은 고려로부터 주자학적 조선으로 이행하는 과도기로 설정, 연구되어 왔다. 그러면서도 조선이 明에 대해 사대외교를 펼쳤다는 이유로 조선의 지배층이 모두 中華主義的 世界觀에 입각하여 天下를 인식하였다고 보아 왔다. 본 논문은 이러한 이해에 적지 않은 문제가 있다는 판단에서 출발하였다. 15세기 조선인의 천하관이 고려로부터 물려받은 다양한 문화적 토양아래 형성되었을 가능성을 전제하고, 그 양상을 살피고자 하였다. 살필 대상은 조선 건국 초기에 국가사업으로 제작한 天文圖와 世界地圖인 ?天象列次分野之圖?와 ?混一疆理歷代國都之圖?으로 정하였다. 태조 4년에 완성된 ?천상열차분야지도?는 天命을 통해 태조 이성계의 정당성을 부여하려는 목적에서 제작되었다. 천문도의 제작을 통해 태조에게 정통성을 부여하는 것은 조선인의 독자적인 天觀과 천명인식에 따른 행위였다. 그리고 태종 2년에 완성된 ?혼일강리역대국도지도?는 기존의 화이관적 세계지도에 문제점을 느낀 조선의 지배층이 조선과 요동 및 일본 지역에 대한 지리 정보를 추가하여 재구성한 세계지도였다. 이러한 세계지도 제작에는 고려의 다원적 천하관이 영향을 미치고 있었다. 15세기 조선인 가운데에는 조선의 독자적 천관과 천명의식을 강조하는 이들이 있었다. 그들의 관념은 기존의 다원적 천하관에서 발전된 형태를 갖추고 있었다. ?천상열차분야지도?와 ?혼일강리역대국도지도?에서 나타나는 세계인식은 세종과 양성지에게서 확인할 수 있었다.| In previous studies, the period of 15th Century in Joseon Dynasty has been examined and understood as the time building up the system with the values of Neo-Confucianism. Thus, the 15th Century of Joseon Dynasty has been generally classified as a period of transition to the 16th century. However, this thesis questioned this idea and planed to verify that the world view which most Joseon people had in the 15 century had been established upon various cultural bases inherited from Goryeo rather than being limited to the Neo-Confucianism values. In order to analyze the hypothesis, the world view of Joseon people in 15th century was examined with ?King TaeJo's Planisphere? and ?King Taejong's Worldmap? which were national works carried out in the early years of the dynasty. For this work, the production process and the purpose of the two materials were intensively analyzed in the body. This analysis confirmed that the political purpose of ?King TaeJo's Planisphere? was the consolidation of King Taejo’s power. Moreover, it seems that the ideological background of Joseon founders to make the planisphere for King Taejo’s power was that there was ordination of heaven ideas in Joseon’s own way. In order words, China’s emperors was not the only agent receiving the ordination of haven, but Taejo also had the role, which made him it possible to found the Joseon dynasty with the ordination. The ?King Taejong's worldmap? is the source showing that there were nations thriving with the ordination outside of Chinese civilization and also revealing aspirations of Joseon dynasty. Furthermore, the ideological background enabling Joseon to make such world map had been influenced by Pluralistic worldview of Goryeo.
