효명세자 입학례에 근거한 초등학교 입학식 연구

- 배움의 첫걸음을 시작하는 입학식은 유치원은 물론 초·중·고, 대학교에
이르기까지 중요하게 이루어지는 교육의례이다. 가족생활에서도 입학의례는
매우 중요하다. 가족은‘배움’의 시작인 입학식을 하는 자녀는 물론이고
배우자나 친척이 입학식을 하는 경우, 그 의식에 참여하고, 덕담과 선물을
보내며 축하를 전달한다. 이러한 입학식이 전통사회에서는 어떻게 이루어졌
을까? 그리고 오늘날 진행되고 있는 각 입학식의 형태나 절차는 한국문화가
얼마나 반영되어 있는가? 한국문화의 바탕 위에 입학식이 이루어지고 있다
면 입학식은 어떻게 구성되고 있으며, 그렇지 않다면 어떻게 구성되어야 할
것인가? 에 대한 문제의식을 기초로 본 연구를 시도하게 되었다.
본 연구는 조선시대‘왕세자 입학례’에서 진행된 각 의식과 절차의 의미
에 대해 문헌고찰을 하고, 현재 초등학교 입학식에 대한 교사와 학부모의
면접과 국내외 입학식 사례조사를 병행하여 향후‘왕세자 입학례’를 모티
브로 한국문화가 깃든 초등학교 입학식 모형을 제안하여 한국문화를 바탕으
로 한 초등학교 입학식을 도입하고자 하는 교사와 학교 현장에 유용한 자료
를 제시하는 데에 본 연구의 목적이 있다.
본 연구에서 제안하는 한국문화가 깃든 입학식 모형은‘왕세자 입학례’
에서 나타난 입학식의 장소와 이동, 입학식 복식, 사제관계 형성, 축하례 등
에서 그 의미와 상징성을 반영하고, 현재 시행되는 입학식에 대한 반성과
더불어 개선안을 반영하여 새로운 모형으로 발현될 수 있도록 모색하였다.
입학식에서는‘배움을 청하는 예’와‘진다례’,‘의관을 갖춘 한복 착용’
도입을 강조하며, 적용 가능한 입학식의 절차를 다음과 같이 제안하였다. 개
회식 및 국민의례--> 작헌의례(세수의식)--> 왕복의례(청원서 낭송 및 입학
승인)--> 속수의례(진다례)--> 입학의례의식(스승과 학생 명심보감 낭독)-->
수하의례(스승께 큰절의 예)--> 축하의례 및 교가 제창 후 폐회 순서이다.
입학식은 미래지향적이며, 성장을 향한 첫걸음인 뜻깊은 교육의례이다. 본
연구에서는 왕세자 입학식의 절차와 의미를 도입한 한국문화가 반영된 초등
학교 입학식 모형을 제안했다는 데에 의의를 두며, 향후 한국문화가 반영된
실효성 있는 유치원과 중·고등학교, 대학교의 입학식 모형개발 연구가 수
행되고 실현될 수 있기를 기대한다.
