현행 한국사 교과서의 민족 중심 서술 분석

Abstract

계속되는 일본의 역사 교과서 왜곡 파동과 중국의 동북공정을 지켜보며 "한국의 교과서는 어떠한가?"라는 의문을 갖게 되었다. 일본이나 중국뿐만 아니라 한국 사회에서도 나타나는 배타적인 민족주의가 혹시 역사 교과서 때문은 아닐까 하는 의심을 하게 된 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 한국 역사 교과서에 나타난 민족 중심의 역사 서술을 분석하고자 하였다. 이에 한국의 역사 교과서 중 제7차 교육 과정에서 사용하고 있는 중.고등학교 국사 교과서와 근현대사 교과서를 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 이를 바탕으로 2장에서는 단원 구성과 서술 비중 등 서술 체제를, 3장에서는 서술 내용을 분석하여 서술 체제와 서술 내용이 민족 중심의 역사 서술과 어떠한 관련이 있는지 살펴보았다. 또한 이 같은 민족 중심의 역사 서술이 어떠한 문제를 야기시킬 수 있는지 생각해보았다. 먼저 한국의 역사 교과서 서술 체제와 내용을 비교 분석한 결과, 민족을 강조하는 다양한 서술 체제와 서술 내용들이 곳곳에 숨어있었다. 일본 제국주의의 침략으로 인해 한국이 독립된 국가를 영위할 수 없었던 특수한 상황에서 출현하여 독립 운동의 수단으로서 활용된 민족 중심의 역사관이 정치적 독립을 회복한지 50년이 지난 오늘날까지도 교과서라는 매체를 통해 청소년들에게 전달되고 있었던 것이다. 이 같은 민족 중심의 역사 서술은 학생들에게 국가라는 틀에 맞추어진 역사만이 전부인 것처럼 역사를 인식하게 하여 고정된 사고의 틀을 벗어날 수 없게 한다. 특히 다양한 인간의 삶 가운데 국가와 민족 단위의 삶만이 중요하다는 인식, 국가와 민족의 가치만을 중시하는 인식이 중요하다고 강요하게 된다. 따라서 앞으로는 교과서가 특히 일제시대를 서술함에 있어서 다양한 역사 주체들의 삶을 쟁점으로 하는 서술, 침략과 저항이라는 이분법적인 구조를 벗어나 구체적 사실과 성격들을 제시하여 논리적 개연성을 확보할 수 있는 서술, 민족 독립 운동 이외에도 다양한 일상 생활사까지도 반영하는 서술 등을 하여 민족 중심의 역사 교육과 교과서 서술에서 벗어나 세계로 나아갈 수 있는 한국의 역사 교육계가 되었으면 좋겠다.|The Japanese history textbook on the wave and put yourself in China's Northeast Project, "What about in Korea textbooks?"
