현대인의 삶에 나타난 소통의 단절

Abstract

본 논문은 2003년부터 2004년까지 대학원 과정 동안 제작된 본인의 작품 중 석사 학위 청구전의 작품과 그 이후 발전된 작업을 바탕으로 하여 연구 분석한 것이다. 빠르게 변화하면서 외적, 물질적으로 비약적 발전을 하고 있는 현대사회는 세계가 하나의 시장으로 단일화된 경제권 안에서 더욱 치열한 무한 경쟁을 벌여 나아가고 있다. 매스 미디어와 통신, 과학문명 발달의 극대화와 현대 사회의 급격한 확장, 복합성의 가속화는 인간 내면의 의식에 큰 변화를 가져왔다. 그리고 점점 치열해져 가는 사회 속에서 현대인은 실패에 대한 불안감과 정체성 상실의 문제와 이기주의의 확산으로 인한 인간소외로 점점 더 불안정해 가고 있는 듯 보인다. 이러한 급속한 발달로 인해 우리가 살아가는 도시는 인공적으로 구축된 도시의 빌딩들과 수많은 상품, 쏟아지는 대중매체의 보편화된 시각적 이미지 속에 고정화 되어버렸고, 오늘날 현대인의 주변 환경으로 인식되고 있다. 본인의 작품에서는 급속도로 변화하는 현대사회에서 대두되는 ‘정체성의 상실’, ‘익명성’, ‘소통의 단절’, ‘소외’ 등 일련의 문제들을 양산해 내고 있는 ‘도시’를 바탕으로 현대를 살아가는 현대인의 삶을 재조명 하고자하였다. 급속도로 변화하는 현대사회의 모습을 정형화된 육면체의 공간으로 표현된 도시와 인체 형상을 결합시킴으로써 도시공간 속에서 살아가는 고독하고 소외된 인간상을 상징적으로 표현하였다. 본인은 이와 같은 내용을 토대로 대중 사회 속의 현대인의 인간상을 고찰해보고 그러한 사고들이 본인의 작품 속에서는 어떠한 방법과 모습으로 드러나는지 연구하였다.|This research thesis is based on one of my own works produced during graduate school from 2003 to 2004, especially the one prior to application for M.A. degree thesis as well as the improved and revised one after the application. Rapid progress of our modern society, apparently and materially, has led the world to have more fierce and infinite competition in an economically united block. Maximizing the development of mass media and communication & scientific civilization, expanding our modern society with rapidity, and accelerating the complexity altogether have been bringing about a big change in our internal awareness. And our contemporaries living in this fierce society seem to be getting more and more unstable due to an alienation of human being caused by their anxiety of failure, loss of identity, and spread of egoism. With this rapid development, our cities have been fixed in visual images generalized in an outpouring mass media, products, and artificial city buildings, which are recognized as modern environment. In this work, I tried to review the modern life, in particular, based on 'city' which generates a series of problems in the rapid-changing modern society such as 'loss of identity', 'anonymity', 'discontinuity of understanding', and 'alienation'. Solitary and isolated human image of city is symbolically represented here in my work by combining a cubic shape of city and a body shape of human being, implying a typical pattern of fast-changing modern society. Based on these, I studied an image of moderner in our mass society, and how these images are shaped and revealed in my work.
