현대 미술에 있어서 우연성 표현 방법에 대한 조형적 고찰 : 본인의 작품을 중심으로

Abstract

본 논문은 표현 방식에 있어서 본인의 조형의지를 갖고 우연의 기법으로 전개되는 조형이념의 본질에 접근하려는 시도에서 출발하였다. 자기표현의 조형적인 체계와 그 당위성을 모색하는 연구 과정으로서 본 연구자가 우연의 기법에 관심을 가지게 된 배경을 다양한 현대 미술 속의 한 단면을 통해서 정체성을 규명하고 자신만의 조형언어를 얻고자 한다. 제2차 세계 대전 종결과 더불어 전쟁을 피해 미국으로 건너온 일단의 화가들로 인해 미국 회화 사상 가장 중요하고 영향력 있는 추상표현 주의가 탄생되었다. 추상 표현주의의 출현은 그 이전까지 행해지던 회화에 대한 의미를 다시 한번 생각하게 만들었다. 현대 미술의 근원이라 할 수 있는 인상주의 이전까지는 재현적 미술이 가치를 인정받았으나, 이후 새로운 시도와 발전을 거듭하여 추상표현 주의 작가들은 하나의 공간 속에서 회화를 창 조 하기 위해 행하는 행위, 그 자체의 순수성을 강조하기 시작했다. 현대 회화가 오늘과 같이 전개되고 특히 방법론에 있어 다양하게 발달 할 수 있었던 데에는 추상표현주의가 중추적인 역할을 했다고 볼 수 있다. 추상표현주의는 오토마티즘, 드리핑, 타시즘 등 매우 다양한 양식들로 이루어져 있지만, 근본적인 정신은 자유롭고 능동적이며 무엇보다도 개인의 감정을 표현하는 것에 목적을 두고 있으며 이를 위해 다양한 표현 기법을 이용하였다. 이러한 추상표현주의에서의 우연적 기법들은 기법은 본인 작품제작에 근간이 되는 표현 방식이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구자는 물의 가시적 대상을 은유적으로 표현하는데 있어 물과 기름의 화학 반응으로 질료가 만들어 내는 유동성은 조형의지를 갖는 우연적 요소가 드러나는 추상적 형태로 표현되어 진다. 여기서 우연성은 초현실주의의 오토마티즘 기법의 암시를 받아 추상표현 주의자들이 표현하였던 드리핑 기법에서 영향을 받은 것으로 본인 작업에 나타나는 우연적 요소들에 대한 이론적 근거를 찾아보고자 미술사에 개입된 우연성을 중심으로 연구 비교 분석하였다. 미술사에 나타난 우연성을 살펴본다는 것은 본인 작업에서 나타나는 우연성의 의미를 파악해 볼 수 있는 첫걸음이 ?홱?.|This thesis is contemplation on the actions that were achieved in fine art works which intended to create an accidental result. The initial purposes of the thesis are to study and compare the accidental findings of the works and to search the interconnection from Dada and surrealism to abstract expressionism of the origin of the automatism focusing on American abstract expressionism. The pre-contemporary paintings are created to fit the painters' original plans but ,in the contemporary period, the range of expressions of artists is expanding and they showed endless attempts to create brand new works. The new theme in the contemporary era could be summed up with 'expression of subconscious worlds of the artists. 'Theproduction from this method is Automatism which is very important in understanding the flow of modern paintings. American abstract expression is learning the spirit and methods from various cultures and thoughts. The accidental effects or methods are rooted from Dada and directly influenced by European painters who moved to U.S. As far as the painting style is concerned, the Dada and surrealism works showed similar style to dripping works of Jackson Pollock, one of most renowned action painters. Although they influenced each other technically they showed difference in the mental backgrounds. In discussing the accidental aspect of my own paintings, the research on periodical background where automatism appeared, from Dada to abstract expressionism to help understanding my paintings that were created accidentally. The motive for this research is from my passion to understand and find the theoretical foundation of the accidental elements in my own paintings focusing mainly on the accidental aspect of my won paintings.
