Abstract

The taxonomic structure of Korean Isodon was clarified based on the studies of morphological characters and scanning electron microscopic characters of the surfaces of leaves, fruits, and pollen grains. Taxonomic histories, descriptions, and the key to each taxa were made along with the distributional maps. To understand the infra-specific structure of I. excisus complex and I. inflexus complex, the principal component analyses (PCA) have been performed using 34 and 42 quantitative characters, respectively. The result on the I. excisus complex showed that the characters such as leaf shape, leaf base, and leaf margin, which have been used for the recognition of varieties of the species in the complex, are continuously changed in the complex. The result supports that the complex should be recognized as one group. The analysis on the I. inflexus complex recognized three group. These were identified as I. inflexus var. inflexus, I. inflexus var. microphyllus, and I. inflexus var. canescens. The character ranges of previously recognized two varieties, I. inflexus var. macrophyllus and I. inflexus var. transiticus, were overlapped with those of I. inflexus var. inflexus, representing the unification of these three taxa. I. japonicus and I. serra were clearly distinguished with I. excisus complex and I. inflexus complex. As a result, it is summed out that four species, two varieties, and one forma are recognized in Korean penninsula.
