프리드리히 뒤렌마트의 탐정소설 연구 : 『판사와 형리』, 『의혹』, 『사고』를 중심으로

Abstract

뒤렌마트는 희곡작가로 세계적인 명성을 얻었지만 산문이나 방송극 등 다른 문학 장르에도 많은 관심을 보였고, 또 이 분야에 적지 않은 작품을 남겼다. 뒤렌마트의 희곡적 작품구상은 희곡에서 뿐만 아니라 그의 탐정소설에서도 확인된다는 점을 고찰하여 전통적인 탐정소설과 뒤렌마트의 탐정소설의 차이점을 규명하고자 하는 것이 본 논문의 목표이다. 우선 뒤렌마트의 탐정소설과 전통적인 탐정소설과의 차이점을 규명하기 위해 전통적인 탐정소설의 전통, 구조 및 장르적 특성에 대한 고찰이 선행되었다. 『판사와 형리』, 『의혹』, 그리고 『사고』를 중심으로 비교분석한 본론에서는 뒤렌마트의 탐정소설이 전통적인 탐정소설과 서술구조, 인물구도, 서술기법, 그리고 정의관 면에서 전통적인 탐정소설과 차이를 보인다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 전통적인 탐정소설이 전형적인 도식과 구조를 따르는데 반해, 뒤렌마트의 탐정소설에는 그의 희곡에서와 유사한 뒤렌마트 특유의 서술구조가 적용되고 있다. 전통적인 탐정소설에서는 탐정과 범죄자의 대립구도가 선과 악으로 분명하게 고정되어 있?쨉? 반해, 뒤렌마트는 이 대립구도를 거부하고 있다. 뒤렌마트는 자신의 탐정소설에서 모든 인간에게는 선과 악의 모습이 공존함을 주장하며 이를 바탕으로 탐정과 범죄자간의 대립구도를 설정하고 있다. 또한, 뒤렌마트는 전통적인 탐정소설의 작가가 독자로 하여금 소설 속의 탐정과 자신을 동일시하게 하기 위해 사용하는 기법들을 피하고 뒤렌마트 특유의 서술기법들을 사용하고 있다. 뒤렌마트는 자신 특유의 희곡적 서술기법으로 거리감을 조성한다. 이는 독자로 하여금 현실을 직시할 수 있게 하여 비판적 사고를 유도하기 위함이다. 이를 위해 뒤렌마트는 탐정소설에서도 그가 사용하던 그로테스크와 우연의 기법을 사용한다. 전통적인 탐정소설은 선과 정의의 승리를 주제로 하고 있다. 그와 달리, 뒤렌마트 탐정소설에서는 그의 정의관이 주제로 부각된다. 즉, 『판사와 형리』, 『의혹』에서 나타나는 기독교적인 의미에서의 윤리적 정의개념과, 현대산업사회에서의 정의를 단면적으로 나타내고 있는 『사고』의 정의개념이 뒤렌마트의 정의관과 맞물리고 있음을 알 수 있다. 뒤렌마트는 장르를 초월하여 탐정소설에서도 그가 즐겨 사용하는 희곡적 기법을 통해 사회문제를 부각시키고 ?戮? 세계관을 표출한다. 이는 현대사회의 병폐와 정의부재의 심각성에 대해 경각심을 불러일으키려는 그의 문학적 의도로 이해되며 바로 이점이 전통적인 탐정소설과 뒤렌마트 탐정소설의 차이점이라 할 수 있다.|Du"rrenmatt is known as a famous playwriter who has left us large number of works since he was interested in prose, radio plays, and other literary genres. I will inquire into the dramatic plot of his works, which covers not only his plays and but also includes his detective novels. The purpose of this thesis is to study the difference between traditional detective novels and his novels. Before examining the differences between the two, we must take into consideration the tradition, structure, and genre of detective novels as follows. As the main subject, the novels of Du"rrenmatt's Der Richter und sein Henker, Der Verdacht, and Die Panne are analyzed. As a result, this thesis examines the difference of the structure between traditional detective novels and Du"rrenmatt's works, especially, in their descriptive structure, composition of character, descriptive technique, and view of justice. Through analyzing the descriptive structure difference between the two, we find that traditional detective novels follow a typical scheme and structure. On the other hand, Du"rrenmatt's detective novels adopt a descriptive structure which is a peculiar one. In general, traditional novels establish an opposing construction of good and evil. In some other way Du"rrenmatt's novels avoid this definition of justice. So his maintenance of the good and evil which exist in people sets up an opposing construction between the detective and criminal one. In addition, Du"rrenmatt makes use of a descriptive technique which is avoided by authors in traditional detective novels to identify the detective with the readers. He uses his own play style to give a sense of distance to readers and the audience. It causes people to face up to reality, by inducing a certain critical thought. This thesis also focuses on how Du"rrenmatt's dramatic descriptive technique, irony, and grotesqueness appear in his detective novels. Originally, the traditional detective novel chose the victory of good and righteousness as a theme. But the theme of Du"rrenmatt's reflects a different view of justice. To put it another way, the definition of justice in Der Richter und sein Henker and Der Verdacht lies in an idea of ethical justice which is the meaning of the Christian religion, and the definition of justice in Die Panne, which consists in a concept of justice corresponding to modern industrial society. Beyond genres, Du"rrenmatt expresses his view of the world, bringing into relief social problems by using his own dramatic techniques. His literary design arouses people from the evils of modern society and the absence of justice. For this reason, the differences between the two, especially, traditional detective novels and Du"rrenmatt's detective novels, can be found.
