초현실주의의 프리다 칼로 작품을 응용한 아트메이크업 작품제작

Abstract

본 연구는 프리다 칼로(Frida Kahlo, 1907～1954)의 회화에 나타난 초현실주의의 프리다 칼로 작품을 응용한 작품 제작 연구이다. 프리다 칼로는 기존의 화가들과는 다른 독특한 작품세계와 평범하지 않은 삶으로 주목받은 여성 화가이다. 오늘날 프리다 칼로는 멕시코를 대표하는 여류 화가로서 국내외적으로 자서전과 작품집을 출간하였으며, 프리다 칼로의 삶과 예술을 다룬 전기 영화가 제작 될 정도로 대중적 인지력을 지니고 있다. 프리다 칼로의 작품은 초현실주의적 요소와 페미니즘적 요소를 동시에 지니면서 자신의 신체적, 정신적 고통을 작품에 새롭게 반영해내는 독창성을 보여준다. 초현실주의적인 특성이 묻어남과 동시에 자기만의 독창성, 순수성, 자유성을 가지고 있는 독특한 특성을 가지고 있으며, 작품의 40% 이상이 자서전으로 이루어져 있다. 본 연구에서는 무한한 상상력 표현과 초현실주의 사조를 바탕으로 새로운 시각과 사고의 전환을 통하여 프리다 칼로의 작품을 재해석하여 제작하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구방법은 선행연구와 이론적 배경을 토대로 초현실주의와 아트메이크업의 개념 및 특성을 고찰 하였으며, 프리다 칼로의 작품을 초현실주의의 미학적 특성을 토대로 6가지 작품을 선정하여 아트메이크업으로 작품을 제작하였다. 본 작품은 초현실주의적 특성의 우연성, 환상성, 상징성으로 분류 후 아트메이크업 작품으로 제작하였다. 작품 제작의 효과를 높이기 위해 사진편집 프로그램인 어도비 포토샵을 활용하였고, 자동기술법, 오브제 기법, 데페이즈망, 꼴라쥬, 데칼코마니 기법을 활용하였다. 작품Ⅰ의 ‘’Chaos”는 초현실주의적 특성 중 ‘우연성’에 해당되는 작품으로 고통, 슬픔, 심적 상태를 대조적인 이미지와 우연의 효과로 나타내어 표현하였다. 작품Ⅱ의 “Phantasm”은 초현실주의적 특성 중 ‘우연성’에 해당되는 작품으로 꿈, 무의식의 세계를 형상화하여 몽환적으로 표현하였다. 작품Ⅲ의 “Fantastic”은 초현실주의적 특성 중 ‘환상성’에 해당되는 작품으로 회상, 성욕, 고통, 죽음의 이미지를 환상적인 즉, 비현실적인 이중성을 콜라쥬로 표현하였다. 작품Ⅳ의 “Double”은 초현실주의적 특성 중 ‘환상성’에 해당되는 작품으로심리적, 상징적 요소들을 외적으로 꺼내어 이중적 의미로 표현하였다. 작품Ⅴ의 “In desperation hope”는 초현실주의적 특성 중 ‘상징성’에 해당되는 작품으로 절망 속에서 희망을 상징화하여 표현하였다. 작품Ⅵ의 “Identity”는 초현실주의적 특성 중 ‘상징성’에 해당되는 작품으로 종교적 토착신앙으로 인한 해와 달의 이중적 이미지와 페미니즘적인 여성성을 상징화하여 표현하였다. 본 연구에서는 초현실주의의 미학적 특성과 프리다 칼로의 작품을 아트메이크업과 연결시켜 창의적인 기법과 조형요소들을 활용하여 완성하였다. 또한 초현실주의와 프리다 칼로의 조형적 특성과 기법을 메이크업에 응용하여 메이크업이 하나의 예술 작품으로서 활발한 연구가 이루어지는데 의의를 두고 있다.|This study is on the production of artwork that applied a Surrealist painter, Frida Kahlo(1907~1954)’s paintings. Frida Kahlo is a female artist who is receiving attention with her unordinary life and unique world of artworks which is different from existing painters. As a representative female artist of Mexico, Frida Kahlo has published autobiography and collection of works at home and abroad, and has public awareness enough for a film biography of her life and world of art to be published. There is unique characteristic in works by Frida Kahlo of containing surrealistic and feminism elements and her originality, purity, and freedom at the same time, and over 40% of her works are composed into autobiography. The purpose of this study is to reinterpret and reproduce Frida Kahlo’s works through new perspective and change of thoughts based on infinite expression of imagination and trend of surrealism. This study investigated the concept and characteristics of surrealism and art makeup based on precedent studies and theoretical background, and selected 6 artworks of Frida Kahlo based on the aesthetic characteristic of surrealism to produce them into art makeup. The work was produced into art makeup by classifying into characteristics of surrealism as contingency, fantasy, and symbolism. Adobe Photoshop, a photo editing program, was used to increase the effect of work production, and used automatism, objet technique, depaysement, collage, and decalcomanie technique. “Chaos” of artwork I corresponds to ‘contingency’ among surrealism characteristics and expressed mental states as pain and sadness into contrasting images through accidental effect. “Phantasm” of artwork II corresponds to ‘contingency’ among surrealism characteristics that embodied and expressed unconscious world into dreamlike images. “Fantastic” of artwork III corresponds to ‘fantasy’ among surrealism characteristics that expressed images of remembrance, sexual desire, pain, and death into fantastical, meaning unrealistic duality through collage. “Double” of artwork IV corresponds to ‘fantasy’ among surrealism characteristics that pulled out psychological and symbolic elements and expressed them into dual meaning. “In desperation hope” of artwork V corresponds to ‘symbolism’ among surrealism characteristics that symbolized and expressed hope within despair. “Identity” of artwork VI corresponds to ‘symbolism’ among surrealism characteristics that symbolized and expressed dual image of sun and moon due to religious indigenous faith and feminine womanhood. This study used creative technique and design elements by connecting aesthetic characteristic of surrealism and Frida Kahlo’s works with art makeup. Also, active research on makeup is being conducted as a type of artwork by applying design characteristics and techniques of surrealism and Frida Kahlo on makeup.
