조선시대 노리개를 응용한 현대 장신구 디자인 연구

Abstract

논 문 개 요

우리나라의 장신구문화는 오랜 역사와 전통을 지닌 문화유산으로 정교함과 화려함을 자랑하는 뛰어난 제작기법과 더불어 생활환경을 반영하는 미의식을 갖춘 독특한 조형미의 상징물로 그 가치를 인정받아 왔다. 그러나 전통 장신구는 서구문화가 들어온 이후 전통 양식과 서구 양식의 이중구조 속에서 쓰임이 쇠퇴하게 되었고, 현대에는 그 역할이 특별한 경우를 제외하고 착용이 제한적이게 되었다. 이에 본 연구는 전통 장신구가 뛰어난 미적 표현을 갖고 있음에도 불구하고 서양의 장식문화에 밀려 그 쓰임이 사라져 가고 있는 문제점을 인식해, 이를 개선하기 위해 전통 장신구를 응용한 현대 장신구 디자인을 제시함으로써 전통 장식소재에 대한 재창조와 함께 문화적 개성을 찾고, 활성화의 계기를 마련하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 연구의 범위를 조선시대 여성 장신구 유형 중 의복에 부착되어 아름다움을 더해 주었던 노리개로 정하여 응용하고자 하였고, 이에 이론적 연구로서 조선시대 사회적 배경과 여성장신구 유형, 노리개에 대해 살펴보았다. 조선시대는 엄격한 유교사상에 바탕을 둔 사회로 의복은 절제된 아름다움으로 표현되었으나 장신구는 의복과 달리 착용 면에서 체계적인 계통이 확립되었고, 신체의 위치에 따라 기능적으로 세분화 되어지는 복잡한 양상을 보였다. 특히 여자 장신구는 머리에 하는 수식과, 몸에 차고 다니는 패식, 기타 장신구 등으로 그 종류가 매우 다양하였다. 조선시대의 다양한 여성 장신구 중에서 노리개는 여자 한복의 짧은 저고리와 긴 치마길이에 비례를 이루면서, 색채와 형태면에서 포인트를 주어 의복에 아름다움을 배가 시켜 주었던 대표적인 장신구였다. 노리개는 띠돈, 끈목, 주체, 매듭, 술로 구성되어 있는데, 특히 띠돈과 주체에 표현된 형태에는 조선시대 여인들의 염원과 생활상이 고스란히 표현되며 독특한 미적 양식을 이루었고, 금속류, 옥석류, 보패류 등의 사용과 다양한 장식 기법은 현대 장신구의 소재에 쓰여도 충분할 만큼 뛰어나고 세련된 심미성을 갖고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 노리개를 응용한 현대 장신구를 제작하는데 있어 현대적 디자인을 알아보기 위한 조사로 현재 시중에 노리개의 각 구성에 따라 매듭을 응용한 디자인, 주체를 응용한 디자인, 술을 응용한 디자인을 살펴보았으며, 이를 참고로 하여 다음과 같은 디자인 방향을 설정할 수 있었다. 첫째, 노리개의 전통적 표현 방식을 적극적으로 활용하여 전통 장식에 대한 뛰어난 심미성을 알릴 수 있어야 한다. 둘째, 노리개가 한복에 포인트를 주며 의복을 아름답게 꾸며준 장신구였으므로, 이점을 토대로 현대 장신구에서도 의복에 포인트를 줄 수 있는 아이템을 선정하여 디자인 한다. 셋째, 전통 소재를 응용하되 전체적으로 현대 감각에 맞게 변형하여 세련되면서도 아름다운 심미안으로 장신구를 이용하는 사람으로 하여금 만족감을 줄 수 있어야 한다. 이를 바탕으로 작품 주 장식의 모티브와 제작 장신구의 아이템을 선정하였는데, 주 장식에 있어서는 노리개의 전통 장식이 직접적으로 표현된 부분으로 노리개의 구성 중 다양한 상징성을 내포하며 독특한 형태로 표현됐던 띠돈과 주체부분을 모티브로 정하였다. 제작 종류에 있어서는 현대 장신구 중에서 의복에 가까이 부착되어 포인트를 줄 수 있는 목걸이, 브로치, 허리띠를 아이템으로 선정하여 각각 4점씩 총 12점을 제작하였다. 노리개를 응용한 장신구 제작을 통해 노리개의 전통 재료와 형태가 현대 장신구 디자인 소재로도 충분히 활용될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었고, 이에 전통 장식 소재의 확대 발전 가능성을 모색할 수 있었다. 또한 노리개 전통 표현 방식을 적극적으로 활용한 현대 장신구가 독창적이면서도 차별화된 디자인으로 재창조 될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있어, 전통 장식에 대한 뛰어난 심미성을 알릴 수 있는 실질적인 계기를 제시할 수 있었다. 본 연구가 노리개 장식소재가 현대 장신구에 자연스럽게 조화될 수 있음을 사람들에게 인식 시켜주는 실질적인 계기가 되길 바라며, 앞으로 전통 장식을 응용한 현대 장신구 디자인을 더욱 발전시켜 국내는 물론 세계에 전통 장식 소재가 경쟁력 있는 상품의 소재로 확대 될 수 있기를 바란다. 나아가 노리개 및 다른 전통 장신구가 갖는 고유한 미적표현도 중요하게 인식되어 가치 있는 매개체로서 전달되는 예술품으로 보존 ? 계승 될 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

A Study on Comtemporary Ornaments Design by Appling Trinketry of Chosun Dynasty

The ornaments culture of our country is not inferior than that of other country, and is cultural heritage with long history and tradition. With its outstanding manufacturing method that is famous for its delicacy and gorgeousness, it has been acknowledged its value as symbol of inimitable formative beauty that possess sense of beauty reflect life environment. However, inside the social change where western culture rapidly get into our country, such traditional ornament undergo dual structure of both traditional and western mode. And then, its usage has dwindled away and has parted from the interest and recognition of current Korean, because western dress culture has took major. Under this situation, this study is to recognize the issue that the usage of traditional ornament has been disappeared due to the culture of western ornament, it has onstanding expression for beauty though. And to improve this, the object of this study is finding cultural individuality with recreation of the material of traditional ornament by proposing contemporary ornament design, and furthermore, presenting motivation for revitalization. Among woman's ornament in Chosun dynasty, by choosing trinketry that attached on the dress with doubling beauty as the subject of this study, we tried practical application. In theoretical prospect of this study, we looked into social background, type of woman's ornament, and trinketry, and its result is followings Chosun dynasty is the society based on strict Confucian idea, and its dressing is expressed through temperate beauty. But for ornament, differ from dressing, has systematical lineage in terms of wearing, and shows various aspect that is functionally broken down depend on its position on the body. Expecially for woman's ornament, it has much varieties that is divided into ornament to put on hair(Soo type), ornament to wear (Pae type), and other ornament. Among woman's ornament in Chosun dynasty, trinketry is key ornament that doubled beauty for clothes by providing point in terms of color and style, and by being proportionated to short jacket and long skirt of Korean woman's transactional clothes, Hanbok. Trinketry is composed by band, braid, main body, knot, and tassel. Especially the shape expressed on band and main body entirely represents the desire and life style of woman in Chosun dynasty, and accomplishes inimitable mode of beauty. The use of metals, precious stones, and shellware, and various decoration method have refined aesthetic feature and are as much superior as to be used in the subject matter of comtemporary ornament. In making contemporary ornament applied by trinketry, as a research to find contemporary design, we looked into design applied knot by each component of trinketry that is common in market, design applied main body and design applied tassel. Referring this research, we can set the direction of design as follow. First, by actively utilizing traditional expression method of trinketry, outstanding aesthetic feature of traditional ornament needs to be informed. Second, based on the idea that trinketry is the ornament that provide point and decorate beautifully on Hanbok, select the item that can provide point on the clothes from contemporary ornament, and design. Third, while apply traditional matter, change it to meet current sense, and make it to give satisfaction through an aesthetic sense for its user. Based on this, motive of main decoration of product and item of produced ornament are selected. As main decoration, it is the part where traditional decoration of trinketry is directly expressed. And decide band and main body as motive that contains various symbols and expressed in imitable pattern. For the kind of ornament production, select item as necklace, brooch, and belt, and produced total 12 peaces, 4 peaces each. And we can get following result. Confirmed that traditional material of trinketry can be used sufficiently as design material of comtemporary ornament, and can grope the possibility of expansion and development for traditional ornament material. Also, we could confirm that current ornament can be recreated with unique and distinctive design by actively utilizing traditional expression method of trinketry. In addition, could provide practical motivation that can inform outstanding esthetic sense of traditional ornament. Wish that this study may be a practical motive that make people recognize that decoration material of trinketry could be naturally harmonized with contemporary ornament. And also wish that traditional decoration material can be expanded as material for competitive product in abroad as well as in the country, through improving the design of contemporary ornament by appling traditional decoration in future. Furthermore, expect that traditional expression of beauty in trinketry and other traditional ornament is considered important, and preserved and succeed as valuable work of art.
