정물화 속 삶과 죽음에 대한 회화연구

Abstract

본 논문은 정물화를 통한 삶과 죽음에 대한 이미지 연구를 주제로 2021년 ‘뒤란의 조각들’ 이라는 석사학위 청구 전시 작품부터 2021년까지의 작업을 바탕으로 기술되었다. 본인은 가족을 잃은 개인적인 경험과 트라우마로 인해 연구와 작업을 통해 삶과 죽음에 대해 고찰하게 되었다. 가족의 죽음이라는 경험과 트라우마는 감정을 가장 극대화시키며 일상을 뒤흔들었고 이때 곁에 있는 물건들은 떠나간 이를 가리키는 것 같아 물건에 대한 애착심과 집착을 갖게 하였으며 이러한 경험을 바탕으로 바니타스 정물화 연구를 시작했다. 바니타스 정물화를 시작으로 미술 속 도상과 상징을 중심으로 연구하였으며 그 중 바니타스 정물화의 도상과 상징을 비롯하여 다른 정물 도상과 상징들도 연구하였고 이러한 전통 도상들의 차용과 일상 속 이미지의 수집해 본인의 작업 형식으로 재해석해 보았으며 나아가 일상 속 죽음의 경험이라는 주제를 바탕으로 회화 연구와 작업을 시작했다. 그리고 이러한 수집과 연구를 바탕으로 재해석한 정물 이미지들을 수의를 연상시키는 린넨 위 석영가루와 호분으로 건조한 벽면 같은 배경을 만든 후 얇은 먹선으로 화면에 담았으며 이러한 재료의 사용을 통해 죽음의 분위기를 만들어 그림 속 도상과 상징물들이 지닌 죽음의 의미를 더욱 강하게 표현하고자 하였다. 본 논문의 이론과 재료 연구들을 통해 죽음에 대한 태도와 트라우마의 극복 과정을 표현하고자 했으며 이를 위해 죽음에 대한 트라우마와의 대면이라는 과정은 죽음에 대한 올바른 태도와 극복을 위해 필요하다는 것을 깨달았고 이를 연구하며 작업에 담고자 했다. 또한 앞으로 본 논문의 연구 경험을 바탕으로 삶 속에서 죽음으로 인해 괴로웠던 경험을 한 이들의 일상의 치유가 되는 작품으로 발전하고자 하는 계기가 되었다.|This dissertation was described based on works from exhibition work of a master’s degree titled ‘sculptures in backyard’ in 2021 to works in 2022 under the topic of image study on life and death through still life painting. With the personal experience and trauma of losing a family, I began to consider the life and death through research and works. Experience and trauma of death of family broke my daily life while maximizing emotions and I began to have attachment and obsession on things since objects around me seemed to indicate those who left me. Based on these experiences, I started to study Vanitas still life. I focused on iconography and symbols in art starting from still life painting and I also studied iconography and symbols of other still objects including the ones of Vanitas still life. I borrowed traditional iconography and images in daily life to reinterpret in my own work style. I also started study and work on paintings based on the theme of the experience of death in daily life. I included still images that are reinterpreted based on these collections and studies in the screen with thin ink lines after creating background just like dry wall with quartz powder and paris white above the linen that reminds shroud, and I tried to express the meaning of death from iconography and symbols in the paintings more strongly by creating atmosphere of death with these materials. I tried to express the overcoming attitude and trauma toward the death through theory and material study. I also realized that encounter with trauma on the death is necessary to have correct attitude for the death and to overcome it. So I tried to express them in my works while studying them. In addition, it was an opportunity to develop works that can heal the daily life of those who have suffered from painful experiences with the death in their lives based on study experience of this dissertation.
