일상적 사물의 조형적 변주 : 본인의 작품을 중심으로

Abstract

본 논문은 대학원 석사학위 청구논문으로서 2000년에서 2001년에 걸쳐 제작된 본인의 작품을 토대로 조형어법과 내용분석에 대한 연구를 구체화한 것이다. 우리 주변은 소비문화의 확산, 물질의 풍요로 인해 사물들로 가득하다. 사물들로 가득 찬 이 세계에 있어서 사?걋? 향한 우리의 시선은 점차 익숙해진 나머지 무디어지고 당연한 것으로 받아들여져 일상적 사물들은 더 이상의 시선을 끌지는 못한다. 사람들은 끊임없이 기능성과 경제성이 우선되는 사물의 도구로서의 역할만을 기억하고 요구할 뿐 사물 자체가 지닌 미적인 조형성은 간과하고 만다. 그저 사람들은 가시적인 것과 함께 이루어진 시선과 대상(사물)사이의 계약으로 기억된 범주 안에서 되풀이되듯 같은 형상을 떠올릴 뿐이다. 일상의 눈으로 볼 때 습관으로 인하여 보이는 것만 볼 뿐 일상의 사물들에서 어떠한 조형요소를 발견하려는 그 이상의 노력과 관심은 소홀해지고 그 사물에 대한 단조롭고 국한된 이미지만을 떠올리게 된다. 오랫동안 믿어지는 것이 보이는 것을 덮고 있기 때문이다. 이렇듯 알게 모르게 우리의식 속에 자리잡은 관념적이고 고정된 인식에서 탈피하는데에 주안점을 두고 조형적 관점에서 사물을 변형하여 작업을 전개시켰다. 미술사를 근거로 사물이 미술에 본격적으로 등장한 배경과 흐름을 살펴보고 그 중 일상의 소재들을 실물 크기가 아닌 거대한 크기로 변형시켜 감상자에게 제시한 올덴버그의 작업과 비교하여 서술하였다. 본인의 작업에 있어서 형상화된 이미지는 익숙하면서도 낯선 느낌으로 다가온다. 즉, 일상의 사물이 주는 친숙함과 새로운 표면으로 대체된 나무의 재질감이 주는 친근함으로 인한 익숙함은 왜곡 · 과장 등의 형태적인 변형과 사물의 고유한 표면과 색의 변이로 인해 다시금 낯선 이미지로 다가오게 되는 것이다. 본인의 작업에 있어서 변형 · 변이는 가장 주된 작업전개방식으로 미술사를 근거로 변형의 개념과 예를 들어 분석하였고 본인작업에 있어서의 변형의 의의와 방법 등을 제시하였다. 변모된 형상을 통해 경직되고 통념화된 우리의 의식에서 탈피하여 또 다른 관점으로 바라볼 수 있는 유연한 시선의 확충과 시각적 체험의 가능성을 열어두는데 주된 목적이 있다고 하겠다. 이러한 관점을 바탕으로 표현된 본인의 작품을 제시하여 직접적이고 구체적인 분석을 서술하였다.|This is a study to apply for a, master's degree at graduate school and for this end, works of the researcher made from 2000 to 2001 are specifically examined for formative mode and analysis. Our surroundings are filled with objects by pervasion of consumerism and abundant materials. Objects in daily life are no more attracted by us because we are already familar with those objects and so dulled to see them due to a thought that it's very natural to surround us. People disregard a aesthetics formative character included in an object because they remember it only by its role as a tool for the object, which is preferred its function and economical character. People only remind the same form of the object as if it's repeated in a memorized category contracted between a visual view and the object. When view something with normal views, the thing is viewed by a habitual view, not with an effort or attention to find out a formative element from objects in daily life. Long believed concept on a thing may not allow a new point of view. Works are made with a formative point of view by changing objects targeting on breaking a conventional and fixed recognition established in our consciousness without knowing. Background and trend that objects are largely appeared in arts would be examined based on the history of arts and they be stated by compared with works of Oldenburg who presented objects of daily life by transforming them in huge size, not in their actual size. Formative image in works feels strange and, at the same time, familiar in a way. Familiarness given by objects in daily life and closeness by the quality of wood replaced as a new surface arise a feeling of strange due to formative transformation including distortion and exaggeration and change of original color of objects. Transformation and change are major methods for works and so, the concept of transformation is analyzed taking an example and the meaning of transformation and ways to transform are proposed. Escaped from strict and conventionalized views resided in our consciousness, it's to open a possibility to have flexible views to see objects in different angles and visual experiences. Presented works made with the purpose, direct and specific analysis is stated.
