외국인 유학생의 한국문화경험 및 요구연구

Abstract

본 연구는 서울 소재 대학 내 외국인 유학생들의 한국문화경험에 대한 내용을 조사하여 외국인들이 한국과 한국문화에 대해 어떻게 적응하고 있는지 그들의 경험을 바탕으로 한국문화 교육의 일환인 한국예절과 의례교육에 대한 교육적 방안을 모색하는 데 연구의 목적을 두고 이루어졌다. 연구를 위해 한국문화교육에 대한 이론적인 고찰을 하고 서울 소재 대학교 내 언어교육원의 외국인 학생을 위한 한국문화교육 프로그램 현황을 파악하였다. 또한 외국인 유학생들의 한국문화경험을 파악하기 위하여 1:1 심층면접 방식을 택하였으며, 12명의 다양한 국적을 가진 한국에 유학하고 있는 외국인 학생을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하였다. 심층면접의 기간은 2011년 9월~ 10월까지 이루어졌으며 면접내용은 녹음하여 분석하였다. 조사 대상자들의 한국문화에 대한 경험을 토대로 분석된 연구결과, 한국생활에서의 적응을 위한 한국문화 교육적 방안에 대한 요구로는 예절교육 방안과 의례교육 방안으로 집약되었다. ‘현대’ 일상생활문화에 대한 실용적인 예절교육의 필요성(사례 5, 6)과 한국의 전통 예절과 의례에 관한 역사와 뿌리교육을 통해 정신적인 측면을 학습하고 싶다는 내용(사례1, 4, 10, 12)으로 나타났다. 구체적인 예절교육의 방안으로 한국문화를 알리는 방법이 다양하게 연구되어져야 하며, 역사와 문화 체험 교육 기회를 가져야 하고, 대륙별, 대상별, 관심분야별 교육 프로그램 적용이 요구된다. 내용면으로는 전통예절의 근본과 현대 예절의 적절한 적용이 필요하며, 전통예절에 대한 체험기회를 가져 한국의 정신적 가치를 더 깊게 이해할 수 있도록 해야 할 것이다. 의례교육 방안으로는 한국문화의 특수성을 인정하고 전통적이고 아름다운 한국문화를 외국인에게 알릴 수 있도록 흥미로움과 만족감을 줄 수 있는 교육이 되어야 할 것이다. 또한 한국인도 외국인과 함께 의례교육을 체험할 기회를 가지도록 하여 한국인도 한국의 의례문화가 소중함을 깨닫도록 해야 할 것이다. 그리고 외국인들에게 한국의례교육을 통하여 한국 생활에 적응하고 한국인들과 교류하고 대화할 수 있도록 도와야 할 것이다. 앞으로는 외국인들이 한국과 한국문화에 대한 깊이 있는 이해와 체험이 가능할 수 있고, 그를 통한 경험이 한국 문화적응에 도움이 되는 문화교육의 일환으로 한국 예절과 의례교육이 활성화되어야 할 것이다. 따라서 본 연구는 외국인 유학생들의 한국문화교육에 대한 경험에서 출발하여 자국과의 차이점을 비교. 분석하고, 문화교육으로서 한국 예절과 의례의 교육적 방안을 모색하고자 시도되었고, 이는 외국인 유학생들에게 예절과 의례교육에 대한 심층면접으로 이루어졌으며 앞으로 외국인을 위한 한국예절과 의례교육이 보강, 개선되어야 할 점을 탐색해 보았다는 점에서 그 의의를 두고자 한다. 후속연구에서는 첫째, 향후에는 연구대상을 다양화하여 각 직업별, 거주기간별, 교육기간별, 대륙별, 국가별로 한국문화 체험에 대한 깊이 있는 연구가 지속되어야 할 것이며, 둘째, 한국 예절과 의례는 재미있고, 흥미롭게 교육될 수 있는 프로그램개발 연구가 필요하다, 셋째, 의례교육은 영상물이나 실제 체험을 위한 교수매체의 개발연구가 이루어져야할 것이다.| The purpose of this research study is to find out experiences of Korean culture for foreign students and how they adjust to Korea and Korean culture. This research study is to find out educational program on Korean traditional proprieties and ceremonies based on the foreign students’ experience. For this study, the theoretical study for education of Korean culture was conducted at first. The current educational program on Korean culture for foreign students at the language education institutes of universities in Seoul was researched. One on one in-depth personal interview was conducted with foreign students in order to research their experiences on Korean culture. Interviewees are consisted of total 12 students from various backgrounds and nationalities who study in Korea. The period of in-depth interview was from September to October of 2011 and all of the interviews were recorded and analyzed. Based on the research study of interviewees’ experiences on Korean culture, education program of proprieties and ceremonies was articulated in order to meet the demands of the foreign students when they need to learn Korean culture for their adjustment into Korean life style. Necessity of practical education program of proprieties about ‘modern’ culture of daily lives (case 5, 6) and desire to learn history and the roots of Korean traditional propriety and ceremonies from the mental aspect have found from the study (case 1, 4, 10, 12). Various methods to expose Korean culture by detailed educational program on Korean proprieties must be studied. Also, the foreign students must have an opportunity to experience history and cultural education program of Korea and educational program by continent, target and interested target are required to be applied. In terms of contents, basic root of traditional propriety and proper application of modern propriety are needed, and it would be better to include an opportunity to experience traditional proprieties in order to have in-depth understanding on the spiritual value of Korean traditions. Plan of ceremonial education should be interesting and satisfying enough to appeal specialty and beauty of Korean traditions. Also, let both Koreans and foreigners have an opportunity to experience ceremonial education which may lead Koreans to realize the preciousness of the Korean ceremonial traditions. Furthermore, through ceremonial education for foreigners, the programs can help the foreigners to be adjusted into Korean life style and communicate fluently with Koreans. Education program of Korean proprieties and ceremonies must be vitalized in order to let foreigners to have better understanding on Korea and Korean culture and those educational experiences would be able to help them be adjusted into Korean culture in near future. Therefore, this research study has conducted meaningful research on the foreign students’ experience on Korean cultural education and compared with their home countries’ system. It also attempted to find out educational programs of Korean proprieties and ceremonies as cultural education by conducting in-depth interviews with foreign students’ education program on proprieties and ceremonies. The most meaningful work of this research study was that things needed to be reinforced and improved for foreigners on Korean proprieties and ceremonial educations have been researched and studied. In further research studies, more various research target must be studied in terms of occupations, period of stay in Korea, period of education, continents and nationalities so that in-depth research study on experience of Korean traditions can be sustained. Secondly, research study on developing more interesting and entertaining programs about Korean proprieties and ceremonies is required. Thirdly, instructional media of developing research study on ceremonial education program must be developed by using media as educational methods and actual experience.
