아르누보 문양 이미지를 응용한 바디 아트 연구

Abstract

오늘날 다양한 분야의 교류와 접목 현상은 각 분야의 경계를 모호하게 하기도 하지만 각각의 역량을 뛰어넘는 새로운 형태로 발전하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 이러한 흐름은 예술, 디자인, 문화, 공예, 테크놀로지 등의 경계를 불분명하고 모호하게 하는 반면, 바디 아트의 예술적 역량의 성장과 첨단 기술의 접목을 가져왔고, 바디 아트가 패션쇼, 연극, 퍼포먼스 등에서 새로운 문화로 발전하여 새로운 미적 가치를 추구하는 형태로 발전할 수 있는 계기를 마련하여 주고 있다. 바디 아트는 인체에 행해지는 조형예술 분야로서 다양한 주제와 기법을 독특한 작가의 예술적 감각과 연출력에 의해 작품 활동을 하는 분야로서 바디 아트 그 자체 뿐 만 아니라 다른 문화 예술 전반과 접목되어 새로운 작품세계를 표현할 수 있는 종합예술이다. 특히 문신, 바디 페인팅, 상흔, 바디 피어싱, 헤나 등 바디 아트 분야 중에서 바디 페인팅은 패션쇼, 퍼포먼스, 광고 등 다양한 분야와 접목을 통해 그 영역이 점차 확대되어 가고 있으며, 최근 이에 대한 관심이 증가되고 있다. 그러나 바디 페인팅에 대한 연구가 미비하여 바디 페인팅을 학습하고자 하는 이들과 더 나아가 바디 페인팅 아티스트들이 참고할 수 있는 바디 페인팅 관련 자료가 매우 미비한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 아르누보 문양을 모젼(S. T. Modsen)의 이론을 중심으로 추상·구성·상징적 아르누보 문양, 꽃과 유기적 아르누보 문양, 선·평면적 아르누보 문양, 구성·기하학적 아르누보 문양으로 분리하여 살펴봄으로써 아르누보 문양에 대한 특징을 추출하고, 바디 페인팅에 활용되는 표현기법에 대하여 고찰한 후 이를 토대로 아르누보 양식에 나타난 문양을 이용한 바디페인팅 작품을 제시하는데 있다. 연구의 내용은 이론적으로 바디 페인팅에 활용할 수 있는 문양에 대한 고찰과 바디 페인팅 표현 기법에 대한 고찰을 선행한 후 이를 토대로 바디 페인팅 작품을 제작하는 과정 및 작품을 제시하였다. 본 연구의 범위는 건축, 회화, 장신구 등 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있는 아르누보 문양으로 제한하였으며, 바디 아트 중에서 예술적 창작활동이 활발한 바디 페인팅 분야로 연구 범위를 선정하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 문양은 일반적으로 물건의 거죽에 여러 가지 형상이 어우러져 이룬 모양으로 한 민족의 전통적 가치체계와 정서적, 문화적 배경을 반영한다. 아르누보 문양은 19세기 말에서 20세기 초에 걸쳐 서유럽 전역에 넓게 퍼졌던 장식미술의 양식에 나타난 문양을 뜻하며, 본 연구에서는 아르누보 양식의 다양한 특성을 최초로 포괄적으로 개관하려고 시도한 모젼(S. T. Modsen)의 이론을 토대로 추상·구성·상징적 아르누보 문양, 꽃과 유기적 아르누보 문양, 선?평면적 아르누보 문양, 구성?기하학적 아르누보 문양으로 분류하여 살펴본 결과 첫째, 추상?구성?상징적 아르누보 문양은 유동적인 형태를 상징적으로 표현하기 위하여 C자 또는 S자형의 유선을 문양으로 선정하였으며, 검정, 빨강, 노랑, 흰색 등의 색을 주로 사용하였다. 둘째, 꽃과 유기적 아르누보 문양은 자연물의 유기적인 선을 비대칭적 구조로 율동적으로 표현하기 위하여 식물의 줄기, 꽃을 문양으로 사용하였으며, 자연주의적 색채와 일본풍의 황금색을 주조색으로 사용하였다. 셋째, 선?평면적 아르누보 문양은 유기적인 선을 추상적으로 구성하기 위하여 동식물 문양과 직선을 디자인에 사용하는데 모티브와 비비드 톤 색채를 주조색으로 사용함으로서 강렬하고 다이나믹한 이미지를 형상화하였다. 넷째, 구성?기하학적 아르누보 문양은 직선, 삼각형, 사각형, 사선 등의 기하학적 모티브를 식물문양과 함께 디자인하였고, 비비드 톤 색채와 황금색을 함께 사용하여 강렬하고 환타지한 이미지를 창조하였다. 둘째, 바디 아트는 인간의 몸을 어떤 일정한 재료와 양식, 기교 등을 사용하여 미를 창조하고 표현하는 조형예술 분야의 한 분류로 그 기원은 장식설, 트로피즘(Trophyism), 테러리즘(Terrorism), 토테미즘(Totemism), 에로티시즘(Eroticism) 등 매우 다양한 관점에서 추측되고 있다. 현대 바디 아트는 피부 표면을 염색하는 문신이나 헤나, 얼굴과 몸을 캔버스화하여 채색을 하는 바디 페인팅, 신체에 구멍을 뚫거나 변형 및 제거 등으로 분류될 수 있다. 특히, 바디 페인팅은 회화적 표현기법, 그래픽적 표현기법, UV 발광 물감과 블랙라이트 표현기법, 에어 브러쉬를 이용한 표현기법, 프로젝트 일루미네이션 표현기법, 오브제를 활용하는 표현기법, 디지털 페인팅 표현기법 등 다양한 방법을 사용하여 다양한 모티브의 표현을 가능하게 하여 폭넓은 작품 활동이 가능하다. 셋째, 아르누보 문양을 모젼(S. T. Modsen)의 이론을 토대로 첫째, 추상·구성·상징적 아르누보 문양 둘째, 꽃과 유기적 아르누보 문양 셋째, 선·평면적 아르누보 문양 넷째, 구성·기하학적 아르누보 문양으로 구분한 후 이에 근거하여 각각 9작품, 6작품, 3작품, 2작품으로 총 20작품을 디자인하였다. 제작기법으로는 첫 번째 바디 페인팅의 표현 기법들 중 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 회화적 기법을 이용하였다. 묘사하거나 표현하고자 하는 주제를 형상화시켜서 보여주고자 하는 대상을 쉽게 이해할 수 있게 하기 때문이다. 평면적이고 고정적인 형태를 가진 회화와는 달리 입체적이고 동적인 인체를 대상으로 하는 만큼 더욱 다양한 창작활동을 가능하게 하는 요소들과 패션쇼나 퍼포먼스에서 관객들과 함께 호흡할 수 있는 장점들을 단계적으로 살려 독립적인 예술 영역으로 확대되어질 수 있도록 한다. 두 번째 표현 기법으로는 포토샵 프로그램을 사용하였다. 바디 페인팅의 단점인 실물 그대로의 보관이 어려운 문제점을 해결해 주고 다양한 각도에서 창조적 기능은 물론, 고정된 관념을 없애고 새로운 형식과 틀을 만들어 그 작품만이 갖는 독창성으로 자리를 잡게 될 수 있기 때문이다. 직접적인 공연이나 퍼포먼스의 활용도는 극히 적으나 흥미로운 표현방법으로 인한 창작의 가능성과 교육용 효과 또한 크다고 볼 수 있겠다. 특히, 추상·구성·상징적 아르누보 문양과 꽃과 유기적 아르누보 문양은 유선형의 인체와 조화를 이룰 수 있는 문양으로 직선과 기하학적인 형태를 모티브로 하는 선·평면적 아르누보 문양과 구성·기하학적 아르누보 문양에 비해 풍부한 아이디어를 제공하여 주었다. 추상·구성·상징적 아르누보 문양과 꽃과 유기적 아르누보 문양을 강렬한 색채를 사용하여 아르누보 문양의 다이나믹함을 표현할 수 있었으며, 창조적인 바디 페인팅 작품을 제작할 수 있었다. 기술적 발전은 새로운 예술 영역을 창조하고, 새로운 기술은 창의적 사고를 자극한다. 이러한 측면들을 볼 때 바디 페인팅은 작가의 상징적 개념을 창조적인 형식과 내용을 통해 구체적으로 인체에 표현하는 응용예술분야로서의 무한한 발전 가능성을 지니고 있으며, 다양한 예술사조와의 결합으로 표현에 있어서도 새로운 시도의 영역을 높일 수 있다고 보겠다. 더불어 예술로서의 발전과 창작 영역 또한 확대될 것으로 보며 위치 또한 중요해질 것으로 본다. 앞으로 예술적 역량의 성장과 첨단 기술의 조화로 다양한 주제 표현과 연출이 가능한 패션쇼, 연극, 퍼포먼스 등의 영역에서 많은 바디페인팅 아티스트들에 의해 다양한 프로그램으로 확대되기를 기대한다.|Today's cultural interchange and combining with various areas would make the boundaries more ambiguous, however it tends to go beyond each competence, and then to evolve into different forms. This trend would make the boundaries of arts, design, culture, crafts and technology more unclear and vague while it has given the motive to body art which have been evolved from fashion shows, plays and performance, creating a new form of culture and new aesthetic value. Body art, part of plastic art performed on human body would be the area artists would perform their art work by their artistic sense and unique directing. And body art in itself and its combination with other arts across the culture would total art express new art of work. Especially body painting among various body arts such as tattoo, body painting, scarification, body piercing, Henna tends to expand its coverage increasingly by integrating into varieties of fashion shows, performance and advertisements. However, the fact is that students who want to learn body painting and even body painting artists are experiencing the lack ofbody painting-related documents for their reference because the study on body painting has been rarely executed. So, the aim of this research is to separate art nouveau patterns into abstract, structural, symbolic design, floral and organic design, linear and two-dimensional design, constructive and geometric design, examining each design on the basis of S.T Modsen's theory, extracting the characteristics on each art nouveau pattern, reviewing the expressions on body painting, suggesting the body painting work utilizing those art nouveau patterns on the basis of the review. First, this research first reviewed the patterns and expression methods shown in theory and then, provided the process of body painting and the art work. The art nouveau patterns have been restricted on designs generally adopted in architecture, painting and accessories, and body painting has been selected among body art due to its aggressive artistic work. The research results are following. First, patterns generally harmonizing various forms on outside of things would reflect traditional value system and emotional, cultural backgrounds of one ethnic group. Art nouveau style was a new art form widely spread out from the late 19 th century and to the early 20 th century across west Europe. This research reviewed it on the basis of S.T Modsen's theory who tried to overview various characteristics of art nouveau style for the first time and classified into the and classified into abstract, structural, symbolic design, floral and organic design, linear and two-dimensional design, constructive and geometric design. As a result, first, abstract, structural, symbolic design utilized C or S patterns in order to represent fluid forms, mainly with the colors of black, red, yellow and white. Second, floral and organic design utilized stems of plants, flowers for patterning, expressing organic lines on natural things with rhythmical but asymmetric structure, mainly with natural colors and japanesque gold. Third, linear and two-dimensional design utilized animals and plants shapes and line in designing in order to make abstractconstitution of organic line, expressing powerful and dynamic images, mainly with motive and vivid colors. Fourth, constructive and geometric design utilized geometric motives such as lines, triangles, and square together with plants patterns in designing, expressing powerful and fantastic images, mainly with vivid and gold colors. Second, body art, part of plastic art creating and expressing beauty of human body by utilizing materials, patterns and techniques seemed to be originated from various views such as Trophyism, Terrorism, Totemism, Eroticism. Contemporary body art is classified into tattoo and henna dying of skin, body painting coloring face and body, and piercing, transformingand removing of body. Especially, body painting utilizes various techniques such as painting technique, graphic technique, UV light-emitting dye and black light technique, air brush technique, project illumination technique and object technique, expressing various motives, allowing artists to perform wide range of art works. Third, 4 patterns of abstract, structural, symbolic design, floral and organic design, linear and two-dimensional design, constructive and geometric design based on S.T Modsen's theory have been divided and total 20 works have been created by 9 designs, 6 designs, 3 designs and 2 designs respectively. Body art adopts painting technique which is most widely used for body painting because the painting technique helps to embody themes intended to depict or express, and helps to make people understand objects easily. Indifferent to two-dimensional and fixed forms of painting, body art is describing moving human body, allowing to create more various activities, being suitable to share the same feeling with audience at fashion shows and performance. So, body art is enough to extend as independent art. The second technique is to use photoshop program. Photoshop program helps to maintain body painting work which is considered as the weakness, providing creative functions from different angles, removing stereotypes, building new forms and templates, establishing its originality finally. It's not utilized directly at performances but its interesting expressions help to promote creativity and educational effects. Especially, abstract, structural, symbolic design and floral and organic design is in harmony with streamline shape of human body and is providing affluent ideas in comparison with linear and two-dimensional design motivated from lines and geometric shape, and structural and geometric design. Abstract, structural, symbolic design and floral and organic design would express the dynamics of art nouveau pattern using gaudy color and build more creative body painting. Technical development would seek new art, and new technology would stimulate creative thinking. In this aspect, it's concluded that body painting, part of applied art to express artists' symbolic ideas through creative forms and contents, would contain infinite potential power and expand its trial coverage by combining various aesthetic movements. Expectedly, it would make development as independent art, increasing creativity, taking an important position in future. It's expected that under the coordination of artistic competence development and advanced technology, body painting would be extended by many body painting artists to various programs in many areas such as fashion shows, plays and performance in which various themes and directing are allowed.
