승화의 개념으로서의 조형연구

Abstract
이 논문은 대학원 석사학위 청구논문으로 2014년 2월에 전시한 작품들을 중심으로 내용적 측면과 조형적 측면을 연구 분석한 것이다.
본 논문의 연구 목적은, 안정감의 상실로서 체험되는 불안의 개념과 관련하여 유년기의 환경이 감정형성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 탐색한다. 나아가 인간 본연에 내재한 창조욕구를 바탕으로 미술창작행위가 가지는 치유적 특성에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 본인의 작품은 불안과 관련한 유년기의 애착관계가 치유적 의미로서 표출된다. 본 논문은 작품 속에 내재된 표현의 계기와 그 형성 그리고 작품의 내용과 조형적 측면에 대해 논하였다.
미술이 가지는 치유적 특성에 대한 설명에 앞서 인간이 본질적으로 창조적인 욕구를 지니고 있다는 것에 주목한다. 이에 따라 미술이 사람들에게 어떠한 목적을 띠고 영향을 주었으며, 현재의 우리에게는 어떤 의미로 다가오는지 살펴보았다.
미술의 근본적인 의미와 삶의 영위에서의 미술, 나아가 인간의 정신적 지지체계인 미술 등 다양한 측면에서의 미술이 가지는 힘을 연구한다. 본인에게 미술은‘승화’라는 심리학적 개념을 빌어 설명되어 질 수 있다. 내면에 억압된 불안과 두려움은 미술이라는 행위를 통해 심리적 안정감을 가지게 하기 때문이다. 또한, 본인의 작품에 나타나고 있는 심리적 공간에 대하여 지각되지 않았던 심적 상태의 반영과 그에 따른 심리적 역할에 대하여 탐색하였다. 본인은 내면에 자리한 사적 공간을 시각화하는 하는 작업과정을 통해 억압되어 있던 감정들을 현재에 나열하고 직면한다. 과정 속에 지각되는 과거의 감정들을 회피하지 않고 다루어줌으로써 건강한 내적자원으로 자리매김하고자 하였다.
1장에서는 작품의 내용적 측면으로, 심리학 관점에서 바라본 미술적 배경에 대해서 살펴보았다. 본인이 현재 가지는 불편한 심리적 요인의 기인을 탐색하는 과정을 알아봄으로써, 과거의 경험이 작품의 표현과 어떠한 상관관계를 맺는지 알아보았다. 또한, 내면의 불편한 감정을‘예술’이라는 행위로 해소하는 것을 심리학 관점에서의‘승화’라는 개념의 빗대어 접근한다. 예술을 통해 자아의 내면에 숨겨진 감정들을 발견하고, 이로써 미술이 가지는 치유적 힘을 인식하는 것이 본인에게 어떠한 영향을 주는지 살펴보았다. 본인은 창작행위 속에서 흐릿한 잔상으로 남은 과거의 기억들을 수정하고 조합하는 과정을 통해 근원을 알 수 없었던 심리적 불안의 모습을 찾는다. 이러한 과정은 진정한 자신의 모습으로 나아갈 수 있는 기회를 만들고 더불어 자아성찰로 이끈다.
2장에서는 작품의 조형적 측면을 기술한 것으로, 그림에 나타나는 조형요소들을 물리적 측면과 심리적 측면에서 살펴보았다. 빛과 기하학적 공간, 파란색의 사용과 반복적 행위, 그리고 사진이라는 매체의 사용이 가지는 상징적 의미와, 이러한 구성 방식이 주는 심리적인 요인에 대해 심도 있게 연구하고자 하였다. 더불어 조형적 요소들이 내용적 측면과 어떻게 연결될 수 있으며, 서로 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다.
본 논문은 작품에서 나타나고 있는 유년시절의 경험의 기억이 반영된 기하학적 공간에서의 심리적 표현을 이론적 근거를 체계적으로 제시하였다. 작품의 이론적 근거를 체계적으로 정리함으로써 작품세계를 견고하게 접근하는 계기를 가졌다. 본인은 연구를 통해 앞으로의 작품 제작에 있어 견고한 내용적 요소와 맞물려 다양한 표현 방향을 모색하는 시도를 기대하고자 한다.
| This research is a Master’s degree dissertation focused on works that were exhibited in February 2014. It focuses on the contextual and the aesthetic aspects of the works.
The purpose of this research is to explore how childhood environment related with notion of anxiety affects one’s emotional development. Furthermore, it also explores the healing characteristic of art, keeping in mind that creative desire is inherent in a human being. In the art works this research focuses on, childhood attachment that is related to anxiety is expressed in the sense of healing. Therefore, this research speculates upon the motif, the process, the contents, and the formative aspects within the works.
Before speculating upon the healing characteristic of art, this research first focuses on the fact that creative desire is inherent in a human being. With this in mind, this research looks upon how and with what purpose art has affected human being and also about with what meaning it comes to us. It also speculates on the fundamental meaning of art and art, which is a psychological support system, and furthermore, the power of art in diverse aspects.

Art can be explained with the concept of ‘sublime’ because the anxiety and the fear suppressed in the inner side of human can be stabilized through the act of art. This research explores the reflection of the inner mind and its mental role that are shown in the psychological space through the suggested art works. Without avoiding, emotions of the past are faced through the process of visualizing the private space within the inner self and dealing with past emotions regains one to have a strong inner-self.
The first chapter deals with the contextual aspects of the suggested art works. It deals with the background of art from a psychological point of view. I explore the reason behind my current uncomfortable feelings and look for the connection in relation to the expression method shown in my past works. Also, I approach this ‘healing through art’ by borrowing the concept of ‘sublime’. I look for the hidden emotions within my inner-self through art and search how this healing power affects myself. I modify and assemble vague past memories and from this process I find my fear, which the origins were unknown. This process offers me an opportunity to self-examine myself and also to find my true self.
The next chapter focuses on the formative aspects of the works. It looks at the formative elements from physical and psychological point of view. It researches about the light and the geometric space, the usage of color blue and repetitive actions, symbolistic meanings in the medium of photography, and the psychological elements within these styles. Furthermore, it focuses on how these formative elements and contextual elements are connected and how they affect each other.
In conclusion, as its theoretical base, this research suggests emotional expressions that are reflected by childhood memories shown in a geometrical space. Through this research, my artistic thinking strengthened as I had an opportunity to systematically speculate upon the theoretical base of my art works and I expect and anticipate to expand my expression method through this research.
