Abstract

ABSTRACT A Study of Frédéric François Chopin's Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Brillante Op.22 Yi, Jung Eun Major in Instrumental Music Departement of Music The Graduate School of Sungshin Women's University Frédéric François Chopin(1810-1849), one of the representative composers in the Romantic era, devoted himself to compose piano music and investigated the way of expressing lyrical melody on the piano similar to human voice. His music is lyrical, graceful, and melancholy, and these features make him be acclaimed as “Poet of Piano.” Chopin, who was always full of the national pride, was inspired by the folk music of Poland. He employed the musical elements of Poland folk music and infused them into his composition with his own method. Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Brillante Op.22 contains Poland folk music elements enhancing the effectiveness of playing with the contradistinction of lyrical Andante Spianato and Grand Brillante Polonaise. The thesis consists of the characteristics of Chopin’s music, piano works, and the analysis of Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Brillante Op.22.
