손을 소재로 한 작품 『소통』의 조형성 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 석사청구 전으로 개최된 전시〈의사소통 communication〉연작 속에서 핵심 주제로 표현됐던??손??에 관한 도구론적 혹은 의미론적 연구를 담고 있다. 이 전시에서는 제목 그대로, 자신의 생각 혹은 욕구를 타인에게 전달하거나, 타인과 교환 혹은 공유하고자 하는 인간의 의사소통에 관한 것이다. 의사소통의 매개체인 손은 조형문자의 형식으로 시각적 의사소통을 가능하게 하며, 언어, 문자, 기호를 제외하고 얼굴표정과 더불어 개인의 의사소통 과정에 사용되는 가장 효과적인 도구중 하나이다. 손에 대한 일차적 관심은 조각을 하는 본인의 경험으로부터 비롯된 것이며, 조각가에게 있어서 손은 창작의 일차적 도구이자 수단이다. 손에 대한 이차적 관심은 손이야말로 언어, 문자, 기호 등과 같이 문화적, 공간적 제약을 받지 않으면서 원시적이고도 자연스럽게 감성, 예술, 과학 등 다방면의 의사소통을 가능케 해주는 표현도구라는 사실이다. 본 논문은 의사소통이라는 주제를 효과적으로 표현하기 위하여 손을 선택한 이론적 배경에 대하여 논하고 다양한 형상으로 만드는 과정에서 나타난 손의 도구적 가치와 의미들을 작품분석을 통해 제시하고자 한다. 서론에서는 소통을 주제로 한 연구목적 및 방법을 서술하였다. 본론에서는 〈의사소통 communication〉연작의 이론적 배경을 서술하고 본인 작품을 분석 하였다. 결론에서는 앞선 작품들이 표현하고자 하는 목적을 정리하고 앞으로 작업해 나아갈 방향을 제시하고 모색하였다.|This is a study on hands that can be found in a series of Communication, the exhibition held for a master's degree. As can be seen from the title, a series of works manufactured with the theme of communication in 2004 are on communication between individuals who wish to convey their ideas to others continuously. To shape them, I used hands, which can deliver one's own ideas, feelings, and emotions with various gestures, among parts of the body. In the human body, a hand is an effective part to convey diverse individualities, facial expressions, and ideas. Concerns about hands primarily originate in my own experiences of sculptural art. A sculptor's hands are the primary means in the process of manufacturing works, which are the results produced by the hands. Another thing communicated through the medium of hands may be the universal language which fails to belong to a specific place, or country, contrary to general languages. This is similar to art which is so accessible to people regardless of times or national boundaries. In addition to this meaning, hands have great potentials for visual expression through changes in size or shape in a formative aspect. This study intends to explain the background in selecting hands to express this exhibition called Communication effectively and the process of approaching the theme in a formative way. Chapter 1, Introduction, describes goals and methods of the study with the theme of communication. Chapter 2, Main Discourse, describes the theoretical background in manufacturing a series of Communication, explains methods to manufacture my works, and analyzes the works. Chapter 3, Conclusion, summarizes goals of the works and suggests the future course of my works.
