삶의 기록으로써의 드로잉적 표현

Abstract

본 논문은 ‘growing’을 주제로 2006년부터 2008년까지 진행한 본인의 작업들 중 2008년 6월 개인전에 전시된 작품을 중심으로 작품의 내용과 표현 형식에 관하여 연구한 것이다. 예술가가 작품을 창작한다는 것은 주변 세계와의 만남 속에서 내면의 살아있는 감각을 끌어내는 것이며, 표현을 통해 그것을 외부의 세계로 등장시키는 것이다. 예술가는 이 과정에서 자기의 의식 세계의 ‘틀’이라고 할 수 있는 세계관, 실존 의식 등을 필연적으로 경유하게 된다. 본인에게 있어서 ‘growing’은 본인의 삶 전반을 아우르는 태도이자 정서이다. 또한 개인적이고 자기 고백적인 작업을 펼쳐나가는 본인에게 있어서 ‘growing’은 작업의 소재이자 주제로 작용하기도 한다. 우리를 둘러싸고 있는 것들(활기찬 아이들, 자라나는 식물들, 자연을 누비는 동물들, 조화롭게 들리는 음악 등)을 바라보면 그 자체로도 충만한 에너지가 느껴지지만, 이들은 그 생명력으로 관계를 맺으며 서로를 자라나게 한다. 일상은 그저 스쳐 지나가는 순간들이 아니라 소소한 것들 안에서 생활의 숨겨진 ‘흥’을 되찾으며, 참된 ‘나’를 느끼고 발견하는 곳이다. 본인의 작업은 이러한 일상을 경험하는 ‘나’에 대한 이야기로 전개된다. 본인은 일상에서의 즉흥적인 느낌과 아이디어를 끌어내고 그때그때 떠오르는 이미지를 기록하고 표출하고자, 밑그림 없이 손의 움직임을 따라 드로잉의 요소가 강한 작업을 펼쳐간다. 대상의 재현보다는 심상의 표현으로써 선과 색채의 자율적인 표현을 중요시하며, 이는 감성의 유희적 분출과도 연결되는 것으로써, 이를 통한 작업 과정에서 의 내적 치유의 경험을 얻는다. 본 논문은 ‘나의 이야기’라는 다소 포괄적일 수 있는 본인의 작품으로부터 그 내용과 형식에 대해 정리함으로써, 여러 방향으로 보여지는 그림들을 한 데 묶을 수 있는 성격을 찾고자 하였다. 그리하여 ‘삶과 미의식의 체험’을 통해 작품 방향의 배경적 사유(事由)를 전개하였으며, 아울러 본인의 작품에서 드러나는 ‘나의 이야기’에 대한 창작동기와 본인의 주된 의식 패턴인 ‘growing’을 통한 본인의 창작태도를 설명하고자 하였다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 작품의 내용적 측면을 분석하고, 드로잉적 표현으로의 선과 색채를 중심으로 작품의 형식적 측면을 분석하였다. 본 논문을 통하여 내용 및 형식적 측면에서 일관된 흐름으로 작업을 정리해봄으로써 본인 고유의 표현 세계로 향하는 ‘시기적 모호성’의 단계로부터 도약하고자 하였으며, 향후 새로운 작업의 발판으로써 회화의 가능성을 모색한 연구 과정으로 삼고자 하였다.|This thesis intends to analyze the contents and expressive forms of the art works produced under the title ‘Growing’ for the period from 2006 to 2008, focusing on those works exhibited at writer’s solo exhibition held in June, 2008. Creation of art works is equal to identification of the inner senses evoked in artist’s cross-encounter with his or her surrounding world, or staging of them onto the outside world through expressions. In this process, the artist will necessarily be awakened of his or her own view of the world or ‘a framework’ of his or her conscious world as well as an existential consciousness. ‘Growing’ is an attitude and an emotion covering writer’s entire life. In addition, ‘Growing’ is a source of the works as well as a theme to the writer who produces personal and self-confessional works. Upon looking at the things around the world (active children, growing plants, animals running about the nature, harmonious music, and the like), we will feel a rich energy, but they make each other grow, being related with each other through the vitality they have. The ordinary events are not the happenings brushing through us but the opportunities for us to find ‘the funs’ hidden in our life and thus, feel and find a true ‘me.’ Writer’s works unfold as a story about ‘me’ experiencing such ordinary events. The writer follows the movement of the hand and thereby, unfolds the drawing elements in an effort to evoke some impromptu senses and ideas from the everyday events, recording and expressing the images emerging from them. Here, what is important is not representation of the objects but an autonomous expression of lines and colors as expression of the mental images. Such expression is related with a playful gushing of emotion, and therefore, we can experience an inner healing in this process. This thesis aims to review the contents and forms of writer’s works titled ‘My Story’ which may be more or less comprehensive and thereby, determine the common nature explaining the works visible from various directions. Through ‘such experiences of life and aesthetic consciousness,’ the writer attempts to develop a background thought for direction of the works, and at the same time, explain about writer’s creative attitude through the primary pattern of her consciousness, ‘Growing’ and the creative motive for ‘My Story’ showing on her works. Thereupon, this thesis analyzes the contents of writer’s works, while examining their forms focusing on lines and colors as ‘drawingish’ expressions. Through this thesis, the writer attempts to review her works as a consistent flow in both terms of contents and forms, while leaping from the stage of ‘vagueness’ toward a world of her own unique expression. In addition, the writer endeavors through this study to explore the possibility of painting as a new platform for the works.
