사회적 배제에 대한 점화가 학령전기 아동의 동조에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구는 학령전기의 만 3세 아동들(N = 44)을 대상으로 사회적 배제에 대한 점화가 아동의 동조를 증가시키는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 아동들은 연습 시행으로 화면 속 세 개의 선분 중 가장 큰 선분이 어떤 것인지 고르는 아동용 선분 길이 판단 과제에 참여하였다. 이후 아동들은 배제 혹은 통제 조건에 무선 할당되었으며, 두 번에 걸쳐 약 50초의 짧은 애니메이션 영상을 시청하였다. 배제 조건의 아동은 한 도형이 다른 도형들로부터 배제를 경험하는 영상을 시청한 반면, 통제 조건의 아동은 사회적 배제와 무관하게 도형들이 자유롭게 움직이는 영상을 시청하였다. 실험 시행으로 아동들은 3명의 성인 정보 제공자들과 함께 아동용 Asch 동조 과제에 다시 참여하였다. 정보 제공자들은 8번 중 6번의 시행에서 모두 동일한 오답을 선택하였으며, 아동은 모든 정보 제공자들의 응답을 들은 후 가장 큰 선분이 어떤 것인지 응답하였다. 그 결과, 배제 조건의 아동은 통제 조건의 아동에 비하여 정보 제공자의 오답에 더 동조하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 아주 어린 학령전기 아동이 사회적 배제에 대한 단서에 민감하게 반응하며, 아동들은 사회적 배제가 암시될 경우 정답이 명확한 지각 판단 과제에서도 타인의 오답에 동조함으로써 동조를 사회적 전략으로 사용할 수 있음을 제시한다. |The current experiment investigated whether priming third-party ostracism increases 3-year-old children's conformity in a perceptual judgment task. Given humans have a profound need to belong, we predicted that the mere hint of social exclusion would be sufficient to increase affiliative conformity in young children. Children in the ostracism condition watched short animations depicting a protagonist character trying to approach the group while the other characters ostracized the protagonist. Children in the control condition watched animations that did not depict ostracism. Children in the ostracism condition were more likely to conform to adult informants' incorrect answers in a line judgment task than those in the control condition. These results suggest that 3-year-olds are already sensitive to social ostracism, and they conform to others in response to ostracism.
