사물의 변형을 통한 새로운 이미지 연구 - 본인의 작품을 중심으로 -

Abstract

본 논문은 대학원 석사학위 청구논문으로써 2004년에서 2005년 사이에 제작된 본인의 작품들을 대상으로 하여 작품의 전개과정에 있어 표현하고자 했던 내용과 그 제작과정에 대하여 논한 것이다. 본인은 작업을 함에 있어서 선입관이나 고정관념으로부터 자유롭고자 한다. 선입관이나 고정관념은 합리적 사고의 부산물로써 인간의 자유로운 사고를 방해하고 인간을 고정된 틀에 가둬버린다. 이런 틀에서 벗어나는 길은 자유로운 상상작용을 통하여 기존의 가치를 부정하며, 현실에 존재하지 않는 새로운 이미지를 창조하는 것이다. 본인의 작업은 우리주변에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 소재를 중심으로 일상사물을 결합하거나 변형시켜 애매한 형태로 표현한다. 변형된 사물은 무의식과 꿈의 욕구에 의해 만들어진 것인데, 그것은 현실세계에서 충족되지 못한 욕망이 상상이나 몽상을 통해 표현되는 것이다. 그리고 그 변형된 사물에 파일커팅지를 씌움으로써 사물에 장식적 효과를 주어 보는 사람에게 즐거움을 주고, 그 장식성으로 인하여 사물의 본래 기능을 상실하게 하였다. 이런 사물은 우리가 현실에서는 경험할 수 없는 사물들로 우리의 일상 관념으로는 불필요하고 폐기되어야 할 물건이지만, 그 사물 속에는 신비와 꿈이 담겨져 있어 현실에서 벗어나 새로운 세계를 느끼게 한다. 본인 작품은 설치됨으로써 완성의 의미를 가지고, 과거의 평면회화나 조각처럼 작품을 걸거나 배치하는 방식이 아닌 전시 공간 및 공공장소 등 의 여러 여건에 맞추는 현장위주의 작업으로써 상황에 따라 새로운 공간으로 창조된다. 또 이러한 설치형식의 전개는 예술을 일상생활 속에 끌어들이고 작품이 관객에게 일방적으로 감상되어지는 것이 아니라 삶에 적극적으로 개입되어 관객에게 새로운 소통방법을 제시한다. 본 논문에서는 본인 작업 활동의 기본 배경인 상상력과 그 상상력에 의해 고정관념이 작업을 통하여 파괴되는 과정에 대해 알아보고, 초현실적 오브제와 POP ART의 표현적 방법이 본인의 변형된 작품과 어떤 연관성을 지니는지 알아보고, 야요이 쿠사마의 작품을 통한 정신적 치료법과 본인 작품에 사용된 파일커팅지가 불러일으키는 심상에 대하여 비교, 분석하였다. 본인은 이들을 통해 본인 작품의 내용적 측면을 알아보고, 사물의 변형 과정과 그 표현적 방법으로서 다양한 설치방법의 조형적 측면에 대하여 연구하였다.|As a master's thesis, this study, for the researcher's works produced between 2003 and 2005, discusses the content of expression that was intended by the researcher in developing those works as well as the procedure of production. The researcher desires to be free from a prejudice or a fixed idea in producing a work because it prevents human beings from thinking freely and confine them to a certain frame as a by-product of reasonable thinking. The very way to get out of such frame is to deny existing values through free imagination and create a totally new image which does not exist in the real world. Usual things were combined or deformed into a vague form in the researcher's works under the theme of 'What is it?' with materials that could be easily obtained in daily life. The deformed thing was made by unconsciousness and the desire of dream, where a desire that has not been met in the real world was expressed through imagination or a dream. A decorative effect was given to an object to make viewers happy by covering a shining file cutting paper on such deformed thing, and the decorative effect made the thing lose its unique function. We may hardly experience this kind of thing in the actual world and it is unnecessary and must be discarded in our common sense. However, it contains mystery and dream, which is totally different from the real world. The researcher's works have the meaning of completion as soon as they are displayed, and are created into a new space by field situation such as exhibition hall or public space, instead of existing ways of display including hanging or arranging a plane picture or a sculpture. Such type of display draws out art into daily life and suggests a new way of communication to viewers that works are not ons-sidedly appreciated by viewers but positively intervene in life. With this background, this study was attempted to look into imagination, the basis of the researcher's working activity, and a process that a fixed idea is broken in a work through such imagination. Also, this study examined the relationship between expression of a pop art and a sur-realistic object and deformation of the researcher's works, and made comparative analysis between mental therapy from the Yayoi Kusama's works and image from the shining file cutting paper used in the researcher's works. Based on these, the researcher examined the content of her works and studied formative dimensions of a range of displaying method through deformation of a thing and the expression.
