비판적 사회 인식을 통한 형상성에 관한 연구 : 본인의 작품을 중심으로

Abstract

일반적으로 예술활동은 세계를 인식하는 하나의 인식관이며, 변화하는 시대적 상황에 적응하며 그에 맞춰 예술은 새롭게 반응해야 한다고 한다. 또한 사회의 구성원으로써 작가는 그가 호흡하며 살아가는 현실?? 대하여 적극적으로 발언하고 표현해야 한다고 생각한다. 즉, 예술가의 예술활동이란 예술가의 체험을 기초로 한 사회적 현실의 생활형태에 대한 형상적 인식이며, 체험을 통한 현실의 인식은 모든 예술의 기초적 창작 과정이 된다. 이러한 맥락에서 본인의 개별적 경험에 의한 사회적 현실의 주관적 감정의 표현을 본인 작품의 기저로 삼았다. 예술가가 속해 있는 현실에 대한 개별적 체험을 바탕으로 한 표현 방법은 다양하지만 그 안에서 본인의 현실 반영의 관점은 사회에 대한 비판적 사고에 기인한다. 즉 계급사회 속에서의 사회적 제도 예를 들면 학교나 회사, 군대 등을 통하여 획일화되고 정형화되어 가는 현대인들의 인간성 상실이나 정보화 사회속에서 권력에 의한 정보의 왜곡으로 파생되어진 인간사고의 통제 등의 부정적 사회 현상들을 본인이 외부세계를 통해 얻은 직접, 또는 간접적인 체험을 통하여 표현하고자 하였다. 이러한 사회의 비판적 시각을 통한 본인 작품의 표현방법들은 80년대 소위 민중미술이 대부분 그러했던 것처럼 직접적이면서 선동적인 표현방법을 피하고, 다소 조형적인 측면을 증시하면서 함축적이고 상징적인 방식으로 표현하고자 하였다. 이러한 형식상의 ??화는 회화는 물론 사진, 또는 설치 등의 형식으로 보다 더 다양한 매체의 사용을 시도하게 되었다. 이러한 다양한 매체 중에 특히 사진은 사진이 가지고 있는 사실적이면서 객관적인 성격에도 불구하고, 현대의 정보화 사회에서 사진의 객관적 시각의 한계를 사진의 사실적 표현 이면에 숨겨진 주관적 시각에 근거하며, 이것을 정보화 시대에 권력이 그들의 이익을 위해 사실의 과장이나 축소, 은폐 등의 권력 유지의 도구로써 불평등한 정보 전달의 상징으로 해석하였다. 작품제작의 방법에 있어서 여러 매체에 대한 활용이 다소 일관성이 없어 보이지만, 적극적인 매체의 활용과 다양한 표현 방법들로 표현된 작품들은 기존의 회화가 가지고 있는 전통적 표현 양식에서 탈피하고자 하는 반형식적인 다원주의적 표현 양식으로 보고자 하였다. 본인 작업의 전반적인 표현 양식의 근거는 현실에 대한 본인의 주관적인 비판적 시각을 표현하고자 하는 데 있는 것이다. 본 논문의 의의는 사회 생활 속에서 예술의 역할을 본인의 작업에 사상적 기반이 되어온 사회주의의 비판적 사고를 통해 사회를 인식하는 과정과 그에 따른 다각적인 조형 양식의 근거를 찾고자 하는데 목적을 두며, 또한 본 논문에서 설명되어질 작품은 1998년 본인의 석사 청구전의 작품을 중심으로 앞으로 진행될 본인의 작업에 대한 방향을 모색하는데 의의를 두고자 한다.|Generally, the art activities is one of the cognitive ways to understand the world. Art should respond along newly with accommodating to the changing current situations. Also, the artists as members of the communities shall should speak out and express constructively on the current realities which they live, I think. That is to say, the art activities are the appeared awareness on the life style of the social reality on the basis of the experiences of the artists. Understanding the realities through the actual experiences is the fundamental creative procedure for all kinds of arts. In the way, I make the work based on the subjective-emotional expressions of the social realities conforming to my individual experiences. There are a number of ways to show out the individual experiences of the realities that the artists involve, but their views of the reality-reflection result from the critical thinking. That is, through my first and second-hand experiences, I try to express the negative social phenomena as followings; ⅰ) humanity loss of people who have been uniformed by the social systems out of the hierarchical societies such as school, workplace, military corps and so on. ⅱ) control of the human thinking which is risen from the distortion of the information by the power in the information-oriented society. In the 80s in Korea, all the expression methods through the critical outlooks of the societies avoided the directive and seditious ways like most of the popular arts. However, they focused on the modeling and used the implicative and symbolic expression ways. These style changes have made them try to use the various media such as paintings, photographs or installation. Especially, in spite that the photographs have the realistic and objective figures, the limit of the objective view regarding the photographs has been based on the subjective outlook which is hidden inside of their realistic presentations. They are interpreted as a symbol of the unfair information-communication by means of sustaining the power by the power holders, such as exaggeration, reduction or cover-up of the facts for their profits, in the information-oriented era. Regarding the ways to make the works, using the various media seems the lack of the consistency. However, I considered the active media utilization and the figured works which use the various expression ways as anti-formal and pluralistic expression ways to get out of the traditional presentation styles which the old paintings have had. All the general expression ways for my work has been on the basis of showing out my own critical views on the realities. This thesis has been focused on figuring out the role of the art in the real life as the procedures to understand the communities through the socialistic critical thinking which has been providing the ideologic basis for my work. Also, it has been trying to find its bases of the multilateral formative styles. The work which is presented in this thesis is for searching the forwarding direction of my work on the basis of the work which was displayed at the exhibition in the commemoration of my masters degree acquisition in 1998.
