벽에 대한 시간과 공간에 관한 표현 연구

Abstract

미술은 개인의 삶과 불가분의 관계를 갖는다. 직접적이라고 말하기는 어렵지만 삶과 분리된 예술은 존재할 수는 있지만 감동적이지는 않다. 사실 지금의 현대미술은 작가의 삶보다는 개념의 논리나 제도의 문제와 더 긴밀하게 관련이 되어있어 일반인들은 이해가 거의 불가능할 정도의 난해함과 현실과 분리되어 보이는 것이 사실이다. 20세기에 들어와 현대의 미술은 좀 더 자유로운 사고가 가능해지면서 독창성, 창조성, 참신함을 가진 회화로 발전하였다. 즉, 과거 미술의 개념이 모방론 혹은 표현론의 차원에서만 해석되었다면 그와 다른 맥락의 회화를 개념적으로 사고하기 시작하면서 일종의 지적개입이 가능해졌다. 또한, 회화의 존재방식과 패러다임 자체에 대해 개념적으로 적극적인 성찰과 철저하게 자신의 일상과 구체적인 경험을 그림으로 그려내며 작가 스스로의 정신과 일상의 감정들을 담아내는 작업이 많아지고 표현 방법이나 개념적인 면에서도 훨씬 다양성을 띠게 되었다. 그럼에도 여전히 미술은 한 작가가 자신의 삶에서 발생되는 모든 문제를 해명하는 것이고, 각자들의 감각에 따라서 서로 다른 작품들을 창조해 나가고 있는 것이며, 우리가 익히 아는 경험적 현실의 구조 뒤에 숨어 보이지 않는 구조를 집요하게 밝힌 행위인 것이다. 이러한 경험이나 기억은 본인이 벽이라는 주제에 대해 관심을 가지게 된 계기가 되었다. 벽에 낙서하고 야단맞았던 기억이라든지 높은 담을 쳐다보고 있었을 때 느꼈던 위압감이나 두려움 등의 감정들은 자연스럽게 주변의 벽, 특히 낡고 오래되어 부서지고 얼룩진 벽에 시선이 돌려지게 하였다. 본 논고에서는 벽이라는 주제를 통해 벽이 갖는 시간의 흔적과 조형성으로 구획되어진 벽의 공간에 대해 논하였다. 벽의 표면에 나타난 여러 종류의 흔적과 대면하는 사물들의 그림자로 시간성을 표현하였으며 벽에 생긴 구멍이나 창문을 통해 공간의 소통을 말하고자 하였다. 벽이 상징하는 일반적인 경계의 의미를 넘어서 잊혀진 세월에 대한 시간의 기억을 상기 시켜주는 과거의 부서지고 얼룩진 흔적과 현재에 드리워진 그림자를 통해 벽이 담고 있는 시간과 그러한 벽들이 존재함으로서 생기는 조형적인 공간에 대해 살펴보고 벽이 가지는 공간성을 작품에 나타나는 여러 요소들을 통해 연구해 보고자 하였다.|This paper is a study for the space of the splited wall to have the time and the shape.
