베토벤의 연가곡 「An die ferne Geliebte Op.98」 분석 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 베토벤(Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827)의 가곡을 대상으로 하여 그의 음악에 내재되어 있는 그의 특징적인 음악 사상과 작곡기법을 연구하고, 그 실례를 「An die ferne Geliebte(멀리 있는 연인에게) Op.98」의 시와 음악을 중심으로 연구, 분석 한 것이다. 베토벤은 고전주의 양식을 답습하면서도 그만의 독자적인 기법으로 독창적인 음악을 완성시켜 새로운 양식을 확대하고, 나아가 낭만주의 시대로 연결한 음악가이다. 그는 수많은 기악곡을 작곡하였음은 물론 79곡의 가곡을 작곡하였는데, 이들 가곡 중 「An die ferne Geliebte Op.98」는 그의 작품 활동 중 고전 시대의 기법과 새로운 낭만주의 기법 등 모든 양식이 조합된 시기인 제3기에 작곡되었으며, 연가곡의 효시로 간주되고 있다. 이 곡은 아름다운 선율과 자유로운 곡의 흐름을 통하여 시의 서정성을 잘 반영하고 있으며, 연관성과 통일성을 갖는 6곡이 끊이지 않고 연결되어 있다. 피아노 반주부는 성악 선율을 화성적으로 뒷받침해주는 단순한 기능에서 벗어나, 가사에 따라 음악적인 요소들을 변화시킴으로써 곡의 분위기 표현에 기여하고 있다. 이러한 베토벤의 연가곡 기법과, 피아노 반주부를 성악 선율과 대등한 음악적 위치로 올려놓은 그의 업적은 낭만주의 예술가곡으로 가는 전초적인 위치를 구축하였다는 데 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 이 곡의 분석에 앞서 베토벤을 전후로 한 독일 예술가곡의 역사적 흐름을 이해한 뒤, 베토벤의 생애와 그의 가곡의 특징, 시기적 구분을 살펴보았다. 또한 작품 배경에 대해 알아보고, 음악적인 요소들을 분석함에 있어서 시대적으로는 고전주의 작품에 속하지만 부분적으로 그의 낭만주의적인 성향이 드러나는 부분들을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 그리고 시의 해석을 토대로 하여 그것들이 가사의 내용을 어떻게 표현하였는지를 연구하였다.| This paper will primarily focus on the songs of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Beethoven's thought and implicit compositional style will be discussed; focusing on the research and analysis of a typical example of Beethoven’s song, 「An die ferne Geliebte (to a far away lover) Op.98」. Beethoven, in his compositional method, established his own unique method while faithfully adhering to the Classical form. However, over the course of his career, he expanded his formal style and connected this trend to the Romantic Era. Throughout his career, Beethoven composed a vast volumes of works including his instrumental pieces and 79 songs. Among the great numbers of songs, An die ferne Geliebte Op.98 was published in third part of his life and is considered to be the stepping stone to the song cycles. This vocal work of Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte reflects the lyricism of the poetry through beautiful and free flowing melodies. Six songs of An die ferne Geliebte are connected to one another, in terms of their musical components, by successfully avoiding fragmentation. Not only does the piano accompaniment part expand from the typical role of simply supporting the vocal melodic line harmonically, but rather expresses the atmosphere of the songs through the use of theme and variation. Through this melodic interaction of the vocal line and the piano part, Beethoven's compositional method of song cycle formed the path to the Romantic Art song, which reflects an important implication to the history of songs in the Classical music literature. In this thesis, before the analysis of the piece, I organized the development of German Lied in terms of before and after the time of Beethoven. Then, I divided Beethoven's art songs into three parts, and referred to the transitional characteristics from the Classical Era to Romantic Era. I also studied the compositional backgrounds and characteristics of the art song of the Romantic Era which are displayed in the example, An die ferne Geliebte. Finally, I analyzed how the interpretation of the poetry affected the musical form and the piano accompaniment part.
